Title: Robbie Paul coming to Salem
Post by: Salem OB on February 06, 2012, 09:00:04 PM
We have a charity Vets game at Bradford Salem coming up.

Bradford & District Invitation XV Keighley & District Invitation XV on Wednesday, February 29 (7.30).

Its for a great cause. And would be great to get some support from our local clubs.

Here is the article and link from the Telegraph and Argus.......................

Bradford Salem have attracted a star-studded line-up in a game to commemorate the official opening of their £48,000 floodlights later this month.

Dual-code international John Bentley (Cleckheaton RU, Otley RU, Leeds RL, Halifax RL, Huddersfield RL) has been joined by Robbie Paul (Bradford Bulls and New Zealand RL), former Bulls and Bees player Tevita Vaikona and former rugby union internationals Colin Stephens (Wales) and Scott Benton (England), who have both played union for Morley.

While the above are definites, Henry Paul (Gloucester RU and Bradford Bulls) is a possible to feature in the veterans’ match between a Bradford & District Invitation XV against a Keighley & District Invitation XV on Wednesday, February 29 (7.30).

If anyone wishes to play in the match, they should contact organiser Paul Rae on 01274-552002 or 07778-568845.

Proceeds will go towards The Nathan Cubitt Trust to support the Keighley player who has no feeling in his lower limbs and only limited movement in his arms after being injured playing for Keighley against Bradford & Bingley in an under-17 match on Sunday, November 6.

Salem’s rugby manager Neil Klenk said of the floodlights; “We have been using three stanchions with training lights but proper lights are something that we have been thinking about since the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“Over the years our training lights have been less effective, and we have now replaced them with 200 lux Musco bulbs.

“It has also helped that one of our players, Simon Markey, is an electrician, and he has done a lot of the work down there.

“We have also received an RFU loan for £27,500, some £15,000 of which we have used for the floodlights.

“We also received £5,000 from the Rugby Football Foundation’s ground-match fund and £3,000 from Bradford Council’s b active fund.

“That totals £23,000 and we raised the other £25,000 ourselves from fund-raising and donations.”

Klenk added: “The club is not only used by Salem but also Bradford University, so it will be of benefit to them too.”

Salem aren’t optimistic that their SSE Yorkshire Division Two match at home to Selby on Saturday will go ahead because of forecasted frost and snow.

Bradford Salem (home to Selby): J Robinson; C Savva, M Barlow, M Steel, D Thomas; T Williams, I Woodwiss; J Bradbury, D Hutton, S Davies, A Savin, J Morrell, D Pearson, K Falwasser, J Booth. Replacements: C Buxton, S Markey, A N Other.
