Yep a frustrating game at Hessle.   our players were just not good enough.   Halifax have 4 or 5 useful players and the rest must have improved  playing in the team.   we are not far away from some wins if we can get our players fit and available we will start posting some victories

A determined performance from a Hessle side lacking several regular players was not enough to prevent a 39-7 defeat in their Yorkshire Division Four encounter at Aireborough.

The visitors were penalised for a high tackle in the game's first attack and Ian Craven was on target with the goal attempt. Hessle lost possession near halfway and the hosts made ground with some forceful running which set up the position for left-winger Andrew Craven to squeeze over in the corner for a try which Ian Craven converted.

The hosts continued to attack and increased the lead to 15-0 with a crossfield move which saw Andrew Craven go over for his second try. Hessle found progress difficult and a missed tackle enabled the centre to crash over for a further try.

Hessle had the advantage of the slope in the second half but Aireborough scored a try from a catch and drive in the 50th minute, which Ian Craven converted. A scissors move then deceived the Hessle cover and Harvey Sellers raced clear to touch down. It was all Aireborough at this stage and Andrew Craven galloped 40 yards down the touchline but was thwarted by a try-saving tackle from full-back Aaron Stone.

In a rare attack by Hessle a pass was intercepted by Sellers who shot 65 yards for a try which Ian Craven goaled to make it 39-0.

Hessle never gave up and were rewarded with a late consolation try when Dave Brook made  a dazzling 40-yard break and offloaded to Will O'brien who held off the chasers to touch down under the posts. Jack Donkin converted.

I still feel we will have problems.    as we all know in Y3 last season with teams defaulting was the problem.   and I cant see although the fixtures are laid out    it will stop teams for not travelling

He was a very good Captain.  I remember him travelling to Hessle with 6 or 7 players   and we had a runabout and a game was played  not ideal ,   He has certainly stuck at it which is not easy when the easy thing is to chuck it in , so well done young man in leaving your mark on the club   and hopefully in the years to come the gold leaf name on the Captains board will be  remembered by the members to follow

it appears that its a move that will give some certainty over the fixtures ,with 13 games before xmas gives clubs the chance to play every week ,that being said it would be surprising if we had a reduction in Walkovers either home or away    we will have to wait and see

looking forward to the season again

Any idea about Thirsk not going up.    I see Wibsey are still in 3   I hope they can survive without Brooky     Thirst were the standout team last year and not to go upmost be very disappointing.
