I’m sure I posted twice here last night.... they’ve disappeared !

Anyway... I’ll be leaving Rolling Maul shortly, so our friends from York can take over one of the few Yorkshire spots. Looking forward top the N1E banter and some great away trips too.

You’ll have to move, old boy, as I did to ‘Regional Premier Leagues’ on the Rolling Maul Forum.

The demoted Clubs tend to do well, as they are almost always - no, always - semi-pro. Harrogate can consider themselves lucky to have leapfrogged Sandal and Macclesfield to return to Nat2N.

York will find it tough, as most promoted teams do. Morpeth and Carlisle have gone straight back down and Alnwick escaped going down after their second season by the skin of their teeth.

However, all that is based on this last season. I suspect the new season is going to be very different indeed.

All the best to York and enjoy the trip !

So Ilkley and Morpeth down to NE1, to be joined from Yorkshire 1 by Old Brods and Heath, with Consett coming up from D&N1. Well done to York !

Presumably Kendal will return to NW1.

Be nice to see some old faces. Or older faces, as it will be by the time we meet !

No formula required for us at Ilkley, I’m afraid. Has the proposed league reorganisation been shelved ?

Nice posts here and good to see you all again.

I imagine life is the same here in Ilkley as elsewhere in Yorkshire - just a few cars around and rather gloomy-looking people queuing here and there for food and the Post Office. The weather has been so lovely this week, it’s hardly surprising that after all the doom and gloom around ( isn’t the BBC awful ? ) that people felt they could and should get out into the fresh air. We live right next to Ilkley Moor and could hear what sounded like hundreds of people there at the weekend - not since though.

Goodness knows what rugby will be like when it returns, but I would think a lot of the semi-pro teams are really going to struggle. We’ve had such a rotten season that a lot of us were glad to see the premature back of it ! Anyway, hopefully back to see some old friends in due course.

God bless us, one and all said Tiny Tim.

I’ve posted elsewhere about Ilkley’s position, but I do hope the RFU is consistent in its approach - either have no promotion or relegation at all ( apart from Saracens ! ) or take the current league positions as final and apply both as per usual, but with no play-offs.

Thank you for your kind remarks, Dave and I hope you get to feel a lot better very soon.

Incidentally, I think we as a Club voted to return to two NE Leagues, but who knows what will happen after all this ?

Not biting on the semi-pro jibe, but Ilkley have had a dreadful season, along the lines of YMCA, but without the big points deduction. Having accepted our relegation last Saturday, we can hardly complain if and when it happens.

We have not been able to compete in North Premier, this season ( our 5th ) as our results demonstrate and clearly, York have had a brilliant time of it. From a personal point of view, York should be promoted and it would not be beneficial to our Club to stay in NP.

All things being equal, I’m genuinely looking forward to meeting old friends again in N1E : I just hope we have a proper season to play through.

A big shame Dan, but the sooner they ring-fence themselves out of existence the better.

Ah Flaggy, I fear you are thinking of the not-quite-yet-knighted Richard Scargill, who mercifully is still very much with us. David was CEO and then Chairman of Next plc and was widely credited with pulling the Company round.

He was responsible for sponsoring Leicester Tigers and flew Martin Johnson up to Ilkley to open the new facilities. We played our old friends Scarborough that day, who obligingly lost ( I think ! )

He was a great President for us and even when suffering badly from Parkinson’s, never failed to charm.

And Happy New Year from Heathrow !
