Yorkshire 1 / Yorkshire 1 Dream Team (2019/20 Season)
« on: March 27, 2020, 10:46:17 PM »
Now that the season has officially come to a close I thought it would be a good opportunity for people to put forward their version of the Yorkshire 1 best 15. After watching the majority of teams in some way shape or form this year this would be my pick:

1. Benny Pritchett (Old Brodleians)
2. Liam Stapley (Old Brodleians)
3. Chris Moore (Heath)
4. James Green (Bradford Salem)
5. Declan Penny (West Leeds)
6. Jacob Robinson (Selby) / Makaffi (Salem)
7. Goole 7 - with the blonde hair - unaware of his name
8. Rob Jennings (Old Brodleians)
9. Ed Cockcroft (Old Crossleyans) / Rob Smith (Beverley)
10.  Phil Duboulay (Beverley) / Dan Cole (Heath)
11. Elijah Chitoyo (West Leeds)
12. Ezra Hinchliffe (Heath)
13. Phillip Town (Old Brodleians)
14. Michael Briggs (Old Brodleians)
15. Luke Hazel (Beverley) / Christopher Gorgiou (Old Brodleians)

I am duly aware that Liam Stapley from Old Brodleians moved on but he was the best I saw early season! Whatever the outcome produced by the RFU it’s been another fantastic year for Yorkshire 1 Rugby with all sides showing competitiveness at some stage. So we now await the 2020/21 season, whatever that may entail!

I had the pleasure of watching the derby today. Got to say Heath took the game to the brods in the first 20 minutes and were fantastic. Controlled the scrum, line out and field position and scored two fantastic tries in quick succession. Damns me to say this but should they of played in the same vein for 80 minutes, I can’t see any other outcome than a convincing Heath victory. Having said that. The Heath red card changed the game. Brods grew in confidence and Heath hit the back foot and in reality playing 65 mins with a man extra brods should have won the game. Credit to heath for hanging on in there and securing equal points. I suspect both teams will feel they left things out there. Brods for not taking the opportunity but then also Heath with such domination in the first 20 minutes should they of replicated this for 80 mins. Regardless this was an absolute advocate for Yorkshire 1 Rugby and both sides should be immensely proud of themselves!

With it reaching the half way stage of the season, it’s always good fun to see what people believe to be the current Yorkshire 1 Dream Team at the Xmas break. I’ve had the pleasure of watching many of the clubs so far this season so will be posting mine in due course....

Please elaborate for us Mr Stella? Also aware that Beverley have pulled out of their cup match this weekend against West Leeds.

Would be interested to know as to why this is the case. The cup competitions across Yorkshire unfortunately have never been taken too seriously by its clubs.

Brods V Moortown on Saturday is not going to be a double header on the request of Brods

Would like to here the logic behind this decision.. seems a waste of a perfect opportunity to get the game wrapped up and out of the way from both angles!

Unfortunately couldn’t make the Calderdale derby yesterday but having heard the reports it sounds despite brods recruitment in the front row, and their claims ‘that it would be a lot different this time’ it appears Heath had more success at the scrum than they did last time! It is a fact that brods put the poor teams away well, however when they play in the big games they seem to lack the individual character and team cohesion / togetherness to compete with these sides.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season has in store for the Brods.. At the moment it tends to suggest the wheels are about to fall off

It’s funny that moortown have scored double the points of everyone but yet only 3 of there players get a mention

I’d say 3/4 players in the league XV would be about right. Those at the top of any league aren’t the best teams solely because they have the 15 best players in the league!

interesting reads from the the local derby yesterday. With Heath having the upper hand in the tight, it will be interesting to see how the crossleyans go on their travels to Salem next week. Having watched Salem at home this year they play a very similar style on what can be considered a small field. Despite yesterday’s poor result I see Salem fancying this one to get back on the horse!

Congrats to Moortown on a big win yesterday. Have to say I did predict this, but to me it sounds like crocs have been hard done to on this thread after such a great start to the season - it’s been really positive to see a team from York’s 2 come up and put some real good performances / results on display, with certainly no need to hammer them into the floor on the back of 1 loss - after all being gracious in victory is just as important as in defeat gents!
