Regional Two (North & North East) / Predictions 24th February
« on: Yesterday at 09:05:26 AM »
A couple of rearranged games this weekend.

Bridlington v Glossop - Brid with be seething after their last second defeat last weekend and will bounce back with a win here in a vital game in hand. Glossop I can't imagine will be looking forward to venturing over the peaks for another long away day in what is proving a long season.

Dronfield v Selby - Selby following last weeks result must be confident on strolling to the title and I can't imagine they'll struggle against the boring Dronfield so another 5 points as TalkIsCheap and his followers march on to North East 1.

Goole v Malton and Norton - Its the end of Feb and these two sides haven't met yet so a tough one to call. I can see them being very evenly matched but backing Goole at home on a rearranged game week. a 4 points to 1.

Very keen to get predictions out this week Maverick

Goole v Glossop - Completely Agree, this could be a cricket score. Goole to rack up 50+

Moortown v M&N - Malton and Norton are a good side and although Moortown got the job done against a poor OC side last week I don't think they're back to the peak of their powers. Moortown to win, losing BP for M&N

Morley v Dronfield - Two sides in the middle of the pack that can cause upsets but also seem to slip up in the games you'd see as a gimme. As with most games this week I don't trust the traveling side Morley to win by a point 21-20.

Old Crocs v Bridlington - A massive game at the foot of the table, Brid have a very winnable game at home next week so a win here would get them out of the mire. Very rarely back brid on the road but with a couple of suspensions and injuries at OC they'll sneak this one. 10-19

Scarborough v Old Brods - Brods should have enough to beat Scarborough but a couple of key injuries last week and the fishermen on quite some run. Honours even in this one 20-20.

Rochdale v Selby (MOTD) - Rochdale back on their home patch are a tough outfit to beat. Dale let my predictions down away at Scabs but I'm backing them to do the job at home 28 - 26 could be a cracker if both teams turn up.

Looking at Selby's run in after this week, only Brods at home looks a major fixture, do they have one hand on the trophy should they win on Saturday? I think so

I think Scarborough should stay up regardless looking at their form and run in but very interesting should that point prove vital in April.

I wasn't at the Old Crocs game at the weekend but had heard from supporters who made the journey over that the OC crowd was out of line, abuse towards the ref at levels not seen at Broomfield in the past. Its usually a great atmosphere down there but I've never known it spill over, hopefully a one off.

On the Moortown front though, those in glass houses...

I hope they performed better in the Belly Flop Championship than they did on the field.

A proper old fashioned rugby tour though!

Welcome to the forum - thought I would use your thread to start the predictions.

A fill in week this week which may lead to weakened teams? Players heading to watch 6N?

Goole v Malton and Norton - Goole at home to be too strong for M&N, not an awful lot more to add other than 5 points at home for the Goolies in what looks to be a battle for top 4.

Morley v Old Brodleians - Although I feel the below may be baiting for a bite. I can't disagree with the result, Morley on the back of a disappointing result at Brid will want to get something out of this but the Brods promotion train to continue to roll this week.

Old Crocs v Moortown - Crocs are a different beast at home and the pitch may be a touch small for the exciting style of play TalkIsCheap is fond of. Their pack will need to front up if they're to stop Gallagher kicking Crocs to a narrow win. 22-22 all draw.

Scarborough v Bridlington (MOTD) - Scarborough coming good when needed but if they lose this one to Brid it could be all over bar the shouting for their survival chances. Scabs to get the job done in a coin toss game.

Any truth in the Selby lads moving to York or is that some old school BRB fishing trip?

Another loss for Moortown this week after looking to have bounced back after Christmas showing how hard it is to back up a season being so close to promotion but missing out at the final hurdle. Themselves and Morley I'm expecting to come good next year but I assume both are disappointed with their seasons to date.

Differ Lid - I've not seen Selby play yet this season but I think the two Rochdale results over the last two weeks suggest they would need to bank on their home form to get close to surviving, certainly if they end up in the North East side of the division split as they can't buy a win this side of the pennines.

Brods aren't nearly the team they were a few years ago when they threatened promotion but with the rumours of a couple of irons in the fire for next year and their overall game I would have them as favourites to do a job next year. The backs do lack invention though.

Bridlington v Morley - its starting to get tasty in the race to avoid the second relegation spot. Bridlington need to pick up 4 points at home this weekend to try and climb away from danger. Morley to turn up and spoil the party though this weekend. Morley by 5.

Dronfield v Moortown - Two sides who've had contrasting seasons to date.  Moortown now starting to climb the table and Dronfield seem to be heading the other direction, these two always play out close matches. Moortown to sneak it on Mount Dronfield.

Glossop v Old Crocs - Depends which Crocs team turns up. Glossop to cause another upset dragging OCs back into a relegation scrap they should be well clear of by this point.

Old Brods v M&N - What on earth happened at Rochdale last week?? Malton with a tidy win at home and look to quietly be building some momentum. A battle of the packs pending on Saturday and I'm backing M&N to come out on top.

Scarborough v Rochdale - Don't usually back Rochdale on the road but after good back to back wins at home I think they'll win comfortably at the seaside.

Selby v Goole - Should be a belting game, local derbies are often a coin toss game and I think this will be similar. Selby to get one back over Goole after defeat earlier in the year.

Please stop backing Rochdale on the road.  Thank you.

Apologies Dalesman. I think there will be a number of clubs wanting me to stop predicting a win for their side as it seemed to be the kiss of death for most this weekend!

I must caveat this with I've only seen these two at Mount Brodliean and the postage stamp at Crocs but Dronfield looked to play the more exciting rugby with ball in hand in those two games, the backs certainly had the better of Brods recently. Moortown probably play the better all round rugby but not necessarily as exciting, I guess we will find out whose style is more effective come Saturday evening

Dronfield Vs Moortown -A dull team vs an exciting one here and Moortown have the form. I think this could be a 60+ points game if the weather holds, that small pitch wont suit Moortowns width but if their 10 can get his kicking game going I don't fancy Dronfield to play out of their own 5 and win. Moortown by 11.

I would be interested to know which team is the dull team in this match up? From the bits I've seen of these teams this season both teams like to play rugby with ball in hand

Some interesting match ups this week.

Goole vs Scabs - Goole to run riot in this one. 25+ point win.

M&N vs Dronfield - Dronfield after a couple of tough away days need the win but M&N to carry on going about their business in closing the gap on the top. Malton by 5.

Moortown vs Bridlington - Brid on the road doesn't fill any host team with fear, Moortown with a comfortable win.

Morley vs Glossop - Glossop with some improving results of late, Morley to have too much at home and win by 8.

Old Crocs vs Selby - Selby I think are in danger of falling out of contention over the next few weeks, I hope they prove me wrong as they're great to watch. Broomfield is never an easy spot to visit. 24-24 draw.

Rochdale v Brods - No doubt about the game of the day here. Very rare I go against Rochdale on their own patch but this Brods side keep grinding out tight games. Going for a Brods win by 1 point, but wouldn't be surprised by either side sneaking this one.

Goole v M&N - Goole to run riot at home, Malton to fizzle out down the stretch with one eye on next season.

Morley v Old Brods - Good teams win games they perhaps shouldn't. Last week they struggled to put Dronfield away but did, the week before they won it at the death, I can't see them losing this one but I think it will be another tight affair. Brods by 5.

Rochdale v Dronfield - Rochdale a very tough proposition at Home and on the run of three massive home games to set up a showdown with Brods next week. I think they win this by a couple of scores.

Scabs vs  Brids MOTD - Scarborough in danger of making it competitive down the bottom of the table with Brid falling off a cliff in recent weeks. I just don't see how the Brid mecenaries get any points away from home. Scarborough by a decent margin.

A great game at Woodhead on Saturday. Brods were the better side and showed they can grind out results but they struggled to break down Dronfield, a length of the field intercept for the brods swung the game in their favour in the second half.

OBs should go on to win the league now but with Rochdale and Selby to play away from home, I wouldn't be putting my house on it just yet.
