That Backrow would easily complete in North East 1 in my opinion - G Burns is as fit as I can remember and will play into his forties no problem at all, Mr Burns has something that a lot of players either never had or lose quickly a genuine love for the game and he is an excellent player, His contribution to every club he as played for his immense and for that he has my utmost respect

J Beddis - still a youngster and he as developed well alongside Gaz Burns he will only get better

Ryan Hammond - Not sure what mileage this lad as under is belt but I saw him on a couple of occasions least season and he is a top quality operator and sets a good example for his team mates

My bias towards Pontefract must mean I am a member, Past Player or Supporter of the club , I am neither but just give my opinions on what I see and observe

Thanks Dad.

Other Senior Rugby / In need of some help!
« on: April 30, 2019, 04:57:45 PM »
This may seem a bit cheeky but I’m needing some assistance!

For those who don’t know (and I’m sure there’s many who don’t care or even know who I am), it may surprise you to learn that, with my fondness for ensuring rules are adhered to, I’m a police officer and that I, along with a couple of other Yorkshire based players, play for the England Police Rugby team.

We are traveling in September to play in the Police World championships in Hong Kong. Due to the poor funding of the police in general, this tour is completely self-funded by sponsorship and I’m sure you can appreciate a tour to Hong Kong for 20 odd players and staff isn’t a cheap thing to do. The way this is done by asking businesses to get involved in a number of different ways, including putting adverts in our match programmes and tour brochure, these are cost £125 for a half page ad and £250 for the full. The full amount goes into the cost of the tour.

Here are a list of reasons why you would do such a thing:

  • -          You love the police and think the idea of having a team of them representing the country is a great idea.
  • -          You think I’m a top guy and would enjoy the thought of helping me out.
  • -          There’s a chance that your team will be playing Pontefract in some the weeks of September and October and it would be beneficial in not having to see an aging back row forward looking to use his skilful handling and agile footwork against your team.
  • -          You’re a business with a smart accountant who has an ability to off-set your advertising budget against your tax.
  • -          You are a criminal who would see nothing but positives of having 20 odd cops out of the country for a couple of weeks.

If you have a business or have some influence with the gaffer and would like to help, drop me a message on here and we can have a chat about setting something up, be it an advert or if you want to be more involved (ie shirt sponsorship and other avenues). Also if you'd just like to take the mick you can also do that, it'll keep the topic active.

Thanks for reading, Gaz.

Well done on the season lads, today showed the reason you're head and shoulders above the rest of us, you get the ball and you usually score.

Sorry I didn't stay to see you lift the trophy, wasn't sour grapes just had to be at work by 4. I was late.

Perhaps the 2nd team pitch is too narrow for Rish's expansive brand of rugby.......

Ponte v Crocs sounded like another cracker similar to the previous game at Crocs who build up a big lead and then allow Ponte back in it. Question or comment
for Gaz? in the first game if you had kept the ball in the scrums and played that out you would have got at least 1 pen try which might not have changed the result as you only just lost 31-29. In the 2nd game could you have done the same at the end as you would have been awarded 7 points rather than pick and go, score and have the conversion to win it. Just a thought as Crocs defence in the 1st game was outstanding when you had picked up from the base of the scrum but did you have to?

2 games refereed differently I guess, I reckon one more penalty in the scrum last week and it'd have been 7 under the sticks, however we pushed it over. The ref last week is a former prop and very good in the dark arts of scrummaging, good in general really.

At your place, there was some very nefarious back row skullduggery that enable your lads to ruin any chances and these were missed. I wouldn't fancy reffing a scrum without TJs, too many places to watch for one person to adjudicate. Also your scrum magically ran out of front row so we went uncontested which makes it very hard to work the back row. Can't grumble about last week's result though, we were poor and didn't justify the draw.

Dinn 28 - ponte 26

Strange game to watch and stranger refs decisions!

A very bizarre game that's for sure. Quite strange hearing the home crowd berating a referee for sin-binning away team players. Not really sure what was going on most of the time.

More importantly, how's the young lad who went to hospital? Hoping it was just over-caution and he's fine today.

The problem with Moortown is that it doesn't suit the elitist mentality of what a Rugby Union club should be. It's a bit rough round the edges and some of the lads didn't go to boarding school.

When a club like this does well it gets ripped to shreds and that in turn creates a fortress mentality from some people at the club, a bit of "everyone hates us and we don't care" attitude.

From what I know of Moortown, it's a well run, well attended rugby club, giving loads of kids from rough areas of Leeds a chance to play Rugby. A tough place to go and get a result at and a bunch of lads who'll stick together no matter what.

Keep doing what ever it is you're doing Carl and let the raa-raa upper crust frown on you, I've been at clubs on that side of the fence and it's a good feeling when you get to beat them.

Let's see what Burnsy has to say if things aren't going his way today.

Thought the ref was fantastic today, did well to keep a lid on pretty volatile first half.

Not sure why you'd think I'd be upset at a referee if we'd have lost, I didn't think I was known for that.

Ponte 24-25 Town 😬😬😬

Cracking game to be fair. 2 teams out to play rugby in a good spirit. Gutted to lose out but that's the way it goes sometimes.

The ever-feared rugby nation of Jamaica.

Yes, a hard game at Heaton yesterday.
What would help is the Ponte coaching team familiarising themselves with Regulation 13. Specifically 13..7.6
Constantly on the pitch coaching and advising. And no, carrying a bottle of water doesn't give you permission.

Strange that, I only remember the ref asking Salem's coach to get back into the technical area because he was berating him so much and with that, the coach took a big step over the railings and stood in the crowd and continued to berate the ref. I suppose if you only have one "dug-out", it's hard to have both teams sharing the same space.

It was a good, tough (very tough, some monster tackles and runs), game. Two evenly matched teams and I thought Salem won because they hard more fight and desire to do so.

It will be interesting to see how the Croatian boys settle!

It must be fairly demoralising coming through the B and B colts to see all the imports being parachuted in!

No doubt they will seek senior rugby elsewhere?

If you're a colt who is upset by new players and coaching rather than take on board the advice and the challenge of getting amongst those new players, it's probably best they do move on to a new team.

is this a relevant conversation- I appreciate you were a great playerBurns. But I’d be interested to see what impact that will have in Yorks 1 in 2018!

Relevant 10 year ago old lad. Have next to no impact these days. Young man's game now
