I know that amongst the Yorkshire leagues the DN clubs aren't really held in high regard but I think that Consett will provide a good account of themselves next season.

They are a well run club with great facilities, a strong youth set-up and a good pool of players who are generally available on a regular basis they also have a good coaching team as well who've got them very well organised which meant when the chips were down at the end of the season they were able to win several close games to get the championship.

I reffed the game vs Barnard Castle which could easily have gone the other way and watched the game against Durham City which they bossed from the start.

They are up in the hills of the north pennines which doesn't lend itself to every game being played in the best conditions but they are a very adventurous and pacy team with a decent pack. If they can travel well I can see them winning a good few games and performing well in NE1.

Plus with Blaydon's demise and relegation to North Premier they might pick up a player or two from there, it's only 7 or 8 miles away.

I’m not sure I’d agree with this assessment.

Three sides left the league. All with great facilities and the capacity to cause us issues. I couldn’t guarantee a single fixture. For half an hour in two games PP played the best rugby we faced all season.

I agree with your description of Consett tucked away I fully expect them to notch up the results.

Another interesting contender could be Rochdale as they got relegated from North 1 West. Wouldn't they be closer to Halifax clubs?

That's not a bad shout as probably 11 of Y1 teams next season would be easily accessable to/from Rochdale on the M62 corridor. It sounds reasonably sensible to me so it probably won't happen.

Sounds like the ar$e has fallen out of the Lancashire league. I can see why Rochdale would look west.

But my downstairs loo looks like Ickle dots camera has been sick West Leeds finals all over the walls.
The Yorkshire committee are all welcome to come round and have a look.

Could Penrith decide to stay?
If they didn’t want to level transfer.

It will go to OR we got it one year in similar circumstances.

I disagree it’s earning your stripes though.
Remember that year a Y2 club won the shield beating an undefeated Y1 B&B side.
Then won Level 7 nat cup.  :D

Playing Devils Advocate here.
But DN1 looked like it had 4 very combative teams. And has lost 1 to NE1 but gained 2 strong clubs.
Total 5 strong clubs who are good enough to win the league.

Y1 had 4 really strong clubs that all could have gone up and have lost two to NE and gained one from there meaning only 3 clubs battling for promotion.

Do you think perhaps Middlesbrough see Y1 as a easier route to NE1?
If boro went back to DN1 it’d be a tough old league. Especially as undefeated Acklam are heading back into DN1 who are no ones mugs

Just out of interest, the Driffield v wilmslow promotion play off is on 12th May, was it scheduled for this date or has it been changed?

It was scheduled for this weekend but had to postpone as Driff are having a wedding and have a marquee on the pitch. Inn surprised Driff wasn’t forced to give up home advantage and travel.

I appreciate that Driffield aren’t claiming they can’t field a team and don’t have a Final the week after either. But still it’s a close enough example to raise eyebrows.

Congratulations Scabs! I actually feel a bit sorry for you not playing the play off. Winning last year was a real highlight.

It reminds me a little bit of when we finished 6th in Y3 and defaulted into Y2 after a league restructuring.

I think Rish will need to brace themselves for a really focused Scabs team looking to get rid of some pent up energy. Where as before they will have been hoping to cop for Scabs with a hangover.
The double is still on.

More interestingly though, where is RHM going to post next year. We all know how he isn’t keen on NE1 club members posting in Y1  ;D

Nothing sinister...we just be driving along the A64 for a long long would be nice to head in another direction and see some old faces.

However Durham will be doing everything possible to make Saturday our only trip north for a while!

Word we are getting is that Durham City are missing a few.
I reckon Scabs by 19+
Beyond me how lads can be unavailable for a play off but it happens.

Rish will be a sterner test particularly with a promotion in the bag.

Yorkshire 1 / Shhhh........don’t mention the double.

I’m not sure I’ve heard anyone recognising Scabs are on for a double here.

Credit where credit is due. Scarborough are on the cusp of something fantastic. Arguably more impressive than finishing top of Y1.

Scarborough’s bottle has been brought into question but whatever happens in the two finals (barring two drubbings) for my money Scarbs have shown there metal.

Good luck in your play off. I’ll be totally honest I’d prefer Rish to win Shield. But will acknowledge the awesome effort if you bag both.
