North One / Re: West Leeds mass signings
« on: December 03, 2018, 08:24:30 PM »
Rumour has it that West Leeds have made a number of signings in a desperate bid to survive the drop.
Is this true?

Will it work?

Are they heading back to Y3

Is it just a blip and they're heading back up the table?

Is this bad news for other teams at the lower end of the table?

Maybe the amateur player of the year could give us his views to kick us off?

 ;D ;D
Just read our match report. Wondered (more than usual) what he was talking about.
I can’t belive almost 18 months after me been made amateur player of the year you finally mentioned it.
Glad the words getting out there.

North One / Re: Form team Morley make charge for the top
« on: October 26, 2018, 07:58:35 PM »
Nevermind Morley falling short of past glories.
Not a single club in Yorkshire will ever do what Morley did back in the day.
”They hold claim to being the longest-enduring holders of the Yorkshire cup, having won it in 1938 and 1939. The cup was not contested again until 1947 due to the Second World War. During the war years, the trophy was in held in safe keeping, in a box under the club secretary's bed.”

That is my favourite rugby story. I imagine an old man hiding under his bed during an air raid clinging onto the Yorkshire Cup  ;D

I missed the game against Morley earlier in the season but a couple of old blokes from Morley were stood behind our sticks on our new path (we are all chuffed with) that keeps spectators out of the mud all the way round to our new stand next to our recently developed cafe and new and improved media centre. We sorta felt like we must be getting some thing right as we were playing one of the best sides in Leeds (in the league)......
When, old fella says to his mate, “if we fall any further down the leagues we might be expected to play.”
To which his mate replies, “playing looks easier than having to stand up all game. Where all all the seats”
😂😂😂 Evidently not impressed haha.

I work in Morley so drive past their place most days and I don’t think we have what it takes to be Leeds’ premier side. Other than they beat us, we simply couldn’t in good conscience deforest an area the size of Ireland or afford to buy the colossal amounts of chip board they have to redo there stand. Typical dirty Morley, only the “home” section has been sanded.

Well done Scarborough. Bit of a odd one in a very warm swirly wind. You guys were good value for your BP win.
Wasn’t a classic. We’ve played much better and got nothing so we can’t grumble about getting a try BP.
We are battening down the hatches at the min. We are biding our time. We’ll improve.
Mom was your captain the prop. He ran the show. We scored two push over tries and your prop was still best player on pitch, still not sure how that’s even possible. But he was.

It will be interesting to see how the Croatian boys settle!

It must be fairly demoralising coming through the B and B colts to see all the imports being parachuted in!

No doubt they will seek senior rugby elsewhere?

If you're a colt who is upset by new players and coaching rather than take on board the advice and the challenge of getting amongst those new players, it's probably best they do move on to a new team.

I understand the point you are making Burnsy.

However some of the lads coming through at B and B, will have been, i suspect, there from 7 years old, unless they too are imports?

So when the mercenaries are parachuted in ahead of them, I think they can be justifiably feel a bit pxxxxd off. Especially if has been your goal to play for your clubs first team.

Why would you stay and fight for a place that is occupied by a paid player? you arent going to dislodge him, no matter how ordinary he may be.
If the director of rugby or head coach has staked their reputation on his signings and the clubs money (more to the point), he will be very unlikely to put his hand up and say actually we got this wrong.

Surely this isn’t how it would work. I would assume the young talent would still get a look in.

But if we assume people are getting paid. It’ll be murky as heck Andalusia player won’t be part of a Union. So if it came down to a straight shoot out (which it never would) between paid and more talented unpaid player. Surely the paid coach who needed to justify his wage picks the free option, gives the club lad a third of the cash, gives his paymasters a third of the cash and keeps 34% for himself.

The paid coach must pick best team and look to build a squad.
Surely the lad who’s missing out would be the lad that was more a second teamer (a first and halver). Some lads prefer to play 80 every week than bob in and out.

Tough day out for us yesterday. Consett went pretty well, very dangerous half backs and few big lads in pack who carried strongly.

Early doors we took a 6point lead having done very little and falsely assumed we’d cruise the result.
A couple of sloppy bits of play from us gifted them 14points with two charge down tries (we ain’t too worried about our kicking game though ;)) which made the game really uncomfortable for us.

First game of the season is always a bit of a wildcard weekend. Happy to be into the season properly now.

From our POV, 5points on the road, 4 debutants who went well and some stalwarts to return.

P.S.
Well reffed by Carl from Stockton. Who is a bit of a trial blazer. He’s been a level 3 coach (I think) and he gave both coaches an ear piece so they hear the decision. Worked well. Really helped highlight some of our wallies that wasn’t listening  ;D

with the change of coaching at a few clubs (moortown, brods, pontefract, selby i think) will be interested to see the effects positive and not so they have on the clubs on and off the pitch

:D no pressure mate. Thewlis isn’t shy at welding the axe lol.

Thought we was having a daddy coffee morning.

They still exist though eh

Haha 😂  timing.

30 years of paying big is actually pretty impressive.

I was on about “paying players” other day and I think it’s a bit like doing social drugs.
No one likes to admit they do it, its illegal, it can be exciting, we all know someone who does it and sometimes it can go very bad. But generally it’s none of my business. I don’t know the circumstances and it doesn’t change who they are or define them (usually)
I even get the same perverse satisfaction beating a paying club as I get staying out later than my mates who bang on it or out lifting the middle aged guy at gym who likes “juice” with his lunch.

Just a thought.
It’s pretty normal that it happens, you just gotta make your own choices.
Equally it’s not cool to wear a t shirt that reads “Say no to Drugs!

Oh man!

Poor spelling on a rugby forum that’s been deader than the grass for 3months.

Personal assault. He’s not even a real person. He’s a figment of BRBs imagination.

If your a mod ,I’m a rocker 8)

We know all about Scarborough’s famous bore, RHM. You’re only half right calling him a hole.

Rhymes with “farse”  ;D ;D

A lot of the amateur RL round me hasn’t played very much in the last month for different reasons.

From my point of view it’s not safe. Fortunately as captain I have a opportunity to elect not to play of the pitch isn’t suitably safe.
I’m sure there will be no sanctions from YRFU, not with IRB channeling a lot of enthusiasm towards looking after players heads. Head injuries are almost guaranteed on this hard ground. That’s before we start talking about the chance of dislocating shoulders , broken wrist etc.

North One / Delayed start to the season???
« on: July 26, 2018, 05:55:39 PM »
With 5 weeks to the start of the season and promises of a red hot August. Are pitches going to be playable come the 1st September?

Is there any scope for a delayed start similar to what cricket do if it’s too wet?
