Yorkshire 1 / Re: Phoenix announce impressive signing
« on: May 19, 2013, 03:16:43 PM »
On Monday, keep an eye on the web site......
it doesn't sound like Phoenix are just hoping to consolidate next year in Yorkshire 1.
More likely pushing on for another promotion!!
Good lads, you'll surprise a few teams next year, as i hope we will too. ;)

Just to add to the mix, there are strong rumours going round the Huddersfield area that they may face a major points deduction or double relegation to north east one. They have failed to get teams up on two occasions despite what it says in the local paper.

That'd sort out our 13 team in the league problem.
Wouldn't it mean the problems would start even further up the league system!?

Hahahaaa I hear what you are saying, but nothing in the rules says you have to vote yourself to win every game !!  :o
I've very much enjoyed running it, and the banter has been great.
Cheers, MR

Thanks to the Phoenix lads for their comments.
Last night was always going to be tough after the weekend we've had!!
I'd heard there were some Phoenix lads in the crowd, as it was a big match for you guys too. You should have stayed for a drink and made yourself known to us!? We could have shared a drink and discussed next season.
We'll be visiting some old haunts, whereas you'll be discovering the ups and downs of Yorkshire One.
I'm sure if you keep your present squad and maybe add a couple, you'll be top half next season.  ;)
Thanks again for a great season, on and off the forum.
Cheers, MR

Selby 25 - 19 Sheffield Medicals

With a 4 try bonus point win, Selby just pip Phoenix to the Yorkshire 2 Championship.
What a fantastic last two weeks to the season!!
Some very tired bodies out there tonight, but well done lads  ;)

I agree completely!
I'm just relieved we didn't need Skipton to beat Yarnbury to help us get promoted  :-\

Yorkshire 2 / Poor show at Skipton RUFC
« on: May 07, 2013, 10:39:23 AM »
Castleford have had a poor season this year, but at least they fulfilled all their fixtures, taking some big loss defeats in the process.
But Skipton have HWO and AWO for there last two fixtures, plus a dodgy "don't have a front row . . . yet played Phoenix" game against Doncaster Phoenix, allowing Phoenix a 5 point win.  :o  ???

Is there a possibility Skipton could be punished and deducted points?
I'm not suggesting they will finish below Castleford, or should, but could they?

There is the possibility of only one team being relegated, so this could be thought provoking!
Cheers MR

Just thought i'd get this trend back on track with a few quotes from post match interviews.

Here is an extract from the RFU match report . . . . .

“It was a really great experience,” said captain Duncan Hardy. “Our supporters were very vocal and I think they managed to get us over the line. I had the shakes before the game just thinking about it and I’ve still got them now.
“Drybrook were very good at their style of play, but luckily for us, we had a league game a week ago against a team that also played through the forwards and that stood us in good stead.”

This refers to the Doncaster Phoenix pre-final workout they gave us the weekend before.
It seems we owe you guys a big thank-you yet again.
Cheers, MR

OH MY HEAD !!  :o
Thanks to everyone for their best wishes and congratulations! from all the Selby Swans.
The weekend was very precious, and well supported by the Yorkshire supporters!!
After Newent beat Baildon they tried some very dodgy tactic, trying to put Selby off their game and boost Drybrook as they waited in the tunnel, but Selby were so focused I don't think they even knew they were there!!
So proud of the lads. The Drybrook forwards were massive, but it was like felling trees watching them fall. Our tackling technique definitely took the wind out of their sails and our backs totally outplayed their opposite numbers.
I have to correct one point from Victorm's report (sorry Dan) because the third Selby 'charge-down' try was scored by Alex Webster.
Drybrook did come back into the game, but once the clock had run down, the final try didn't take the shine off our FANTASTIC achievement.
Once again thank for all the support, and see you all in Y1 next season.
Now just the championship to try and steal from Phoenix!!  ;)
Selby vs Sheffield Medicals @ SELBY RUFC, KO 8pm

29-25 is about what it costs for a pint down the big smoke!!
But it has been a weekend to remember.
God knows how we get a team together for Wednesday's game vs Sheff Medical, but with the championship on the line, we'll just have to play through the pain!!
