Yorkshire 2 / week 12 results.
« on: Yesterday at 05:34:55 PM »
Good hard game today at North Ribb in what was always going to be a tight affair Ribb were on top in most aspects of play with our defence especially effective every time Wath tried to break through. A couple of early penalties and a converted try gave Ribb a 13 - 0 lead only for Wath to push us over on the stroke of the interval to give us a 13 - 5 interval score. With the elements now in our favour but the conditions getting worse by the minute we controlled most of the second half to run out relatively comfortable winners 16 - 5 which puts us right into the promotion mix. Good relations between two like minded clubs and a packed clubhouse made for a "Proper Ribb Day" long may they continue.

sorry Locked out but have been grafting with loads of members using the local Cricket clubs "Waterhog" in an effort to get the game on. We have had so much rain here in last 24 hours we dont wany any of the Wath big lads sinking below 2 metres and therefore drowning. Should be a good close game.

They obviously had the players as they played a 2nd team fixture. I know I am not around the Cas club but it IS A POOR SHOW.  You are not the only ones and it is endemic of the problems our game is facing at the moment. Its easy to see the problems but finding solutions is the real challenge.

I dont know which planet you reside on but, to play a second team fixture having blobbed omn a first team fixture is a bad show. Its not many moons ago that Cas had four strong teams. To use the excuse that your second team is a long term project demeans their aspirations. To say that they were going in against experienced opposition is a total excuse. I know if the game had been at Cas you would have put a side out and taken the money on the gate/bar/sponsors etc. It really is a poor show and one of the reasons the game at our level is in the state it is.

Just looked on the Yrfu website and the comps semi finals are now on 9th March which is infinitely better than the original 3rd May. We at Ribb might have missed can anyone indicate when we were notified it. Maybe just maybe we are at last being listened to.

Its total lancashire Dropped it. We at North Ribb lost at least £4,000 in gate money, sponsorship and bar takings today as Northallerton decided not to honour their fixture. Despite protestations from the vast majority of Yorkshire clubs to retain 14 team leagues the powers that be wiped 15% off all our income by reducing the league size and introduced a national cup that had 64% of walkovers last year and have stated recently that travel assistance will be given for away matches this season, but, guess what, nobody can tell anyone what the travel assistance will be as "They dont know the budget" as I was told by a county employee only two weeks ago. When I stated that if the clubs dont know what the assistance is and our income has just been reduced by 15% how the hell can clubs make an informed decision on weather or not to enter. I merely got a shrug of the shoulders. no wonder the game is in the state it is when the people in charge cannot answer a simple question that has implications for the grass roots clubs they purport to represent.
Rant over for now. Good luck to Vandals for rest of the season.

Marginal. it doesnt change the fact that majority of clubs would prefer to play league rugby rather than outdated county cup comps. Lets not forget the county cup was always for the top 28 teams in the county along with the Shield semi finalists. Its now a 16 team competition with only (I think 9 clubs entering this year and three walkovers out of four first round ties. At least county rep Joe Bedfords side actually played Scarborough but nobody else could be bothered to travel.

Just shows that the county comps have no future unless something radically changes. Years ago a team would love to have a crack at a team higher than them given the current league standings. Castleford themselves have caused many upsets over the years. How times have changed and what a poor show not blobbing until Friday evening,. In my opinion its very disrespectful of the team you were supposed to be travelling to. Its only a hop skip and a jump from Cas to Fax so travellitis cannot be blamed. Maybe its the total apathy for the county cup comps. Maybe a move back to 14 team leagues in Yorkshire is the solution. But hey ho ho ho that has been dissed many times already by the powers who really matter. Never mind what the majority of clubs want.

Mr Oncea
Doncaster I think. A smart move with the demise of the Tykes. Finals day makes for a bumper financial day for them as well as seeing the cream of grass roots rugby players that they can then encourage away from grass roots clubs with the promise of salaries on less than minimum wage with all the Jam tomorrow at a soulless Castle Park.
Having said that at least they have'nt done, thus far, a Wasps, London Irish, Worcester, Jersey and goodness knows who else will follow.

I can tell you why. After twice confirming in recent weeks that they would definitely be coming. We got the game sponsored and caterers booked etc etc. On Tuesday night they called to say they could not get a team to travel. If that doesnt send a message out to the blazers wherever they reside that teams dont want county cup comps but will fullfill league fixtures I dont know what does. PLEASE LETS GET BACK TO 14 TEAM LEAGUES. If not nationally then in Yorkshire. The semi finals are now five and a half months away and over a month after the final league game. Great planning by whoever and totally out of sync with the vast majority of clubs. I know people say the finals day at Doncaster, with their extensive facilities, was a good event, and to be fair most finals days would be wherever they were held. Its the debacle of getting there without playing a game that is a shambles. Maybe more than four teams will get there this year without bothering their clubs treasurers. Lets see.

I saw through that immediately and that was why we never responded. Think Doncaster want to be the next "Tykes". They should be careful what they wish for!!!!. Good luck to them anyway.

Sounded like another close and competitive game between Ribb 2s and Ilkley 3s on saturday. Our lads say it was close game and that they really enjoyed the challenge. Long may the rivalry built up over the last few years continue to give players regular rugby.
