North One / Is it bye bye Brid?
« on: April 03, 2019, 06:33:11 PM »
Up until last weekend I was indifferent as to who I would prefer to see join Consett in relegation.
But after watching Brid start and pile into a mass brawl towards the end of the game. They get my vote.

There is no place in the game for this type of behavior, York have lost players to some very serious legitimate rugby injuries this season, I am sure if any serious injury had been caused by the criminal act I witnessed, I would have been very happy to assist the Police investigation that may have ensued!

North One / Pocklington miscarriage of justice?
« on: March 29, 2019, 07:49:27 PM »
Whilst it is still in their hands, I do feel that the Pocklington club would be justified if they had a massive chip on their shoulder. The unfair and ridiculous decision to carry over a 5 point penalty deduction from last season to this , could have a disproportionate impact on them. They should be relatively safe on 56 points but the Blazers justifying their free tickets and lunches, have left them in danger of a second consecutive relegation.
With no disrespect intended to our West Leeds colleagues, I hope they can secure a 5 point win tomorrow.
Hopefully York will help them by beating Brid, so the crass decision does not impact on their season.

Other Senior Rugby / Am I Alone?
« on: March 28, 2019, 10:43:29 PM »
I have been troubled of late by the rush of the politically correct to invite female pundits onto the discussion panels for International rugby!

I want to hear the voices who have played rugby at the highest level. (Eddie Butler and Jonathon Davies, I suppose. (but not on England games!))

The truth is the female International pundits that they are rolling out, would struggle to get a game in most Yorkshire 2 level sides!

So why are they pontificating over a level of rugby, to which through no fault of their own they could never achieve!!

Happy to have them as commentators or presenters, but when it comes to the serious bit, leave alone!! They are well out of the depth!

North One / Blackburn V Scarborough Play off
« on: March 15, 2019, 11:32:44 AM »
Looking at the tables both Scarborough and Blackburn are in prime position to finish second in their respective leagues.

Although Scarborough have 4 points more with same number to play (84 against 80) Blackburn do have 4 games that they will think they can win and secure a try bonus point from each.

That means it would be reasonable to assume that Blackburn may well end the season on 100 points.

Consequently that means Scarborough will need to get something out of each of their remaining 4 games (3 x 5 point wins and something from the Morley game). Other calculations are available!

They are nailed on for 5 point victories against Percy Park and Bradford and Bingley at Home, no doubt Malton will be just as easy away from home. That would leave them with 99 points.

So the big game at Morley next Saturday is crucial to Scarborough's promotion ambitions! A minimum of 1 losing bonus point is required for the destination of the play off semi final to remain in their hands.

I suspect that BRB and the Scarbar blazers will be offering extra win bonuses next week at Morley, to ensure, the secure another lucrative day at Emma Royds, for the end of season finale!

North One / Home Run Squeaky Bum Time!
« on: February 28, 2019, 10:53:20 AM »
6 to go and all to play for!

I think Morpeth will secure one of the two top places at the end of the season.

The other potential promotion place, in my opinion will be between Scarbs and Morley.

B and B's poor start to the season leaving them short.

Morley who have won every game since 1/12/18 are the form team, but some games have been closer than you would have expected.
They have by far the toughest run in. So although its tough they will have a chance to beat all four of their main competitors for a promotion spot, furthering their ambitions and denting others.

Scarborough Barbarians Semi professionals have been one of the favourites to secure a potential promotion spot for most of the season, however it would appear that the pressure is getting to them! After being easily swept aside by Pocklington in front of their vociferous home support and collecting a couple reds to boot, in their last game.
Much i suspect will depend how they fair at Driffield this weekend and I cant see the Kelleythorpe contingent doing them any favours!
Possibly all to play for when they meet Morley in three weeks time.

And YM are my distinct outsiders of the top four to finish in the top two (or top 4). They also have potentially tough fixtures on the home run. But have shown at full strength they have an outside chance.

So I think that the top of the table will finish.

1. Morpeth.
2. Scarborough (just)
3. Morley
4. B and B
5. Who cares?

York are hosting a pre-match lunch again this Saturday, for the visit of Scarborough and after sell outs for the visits of Pocklington and Malton, it would appear that Scarborough fans aren't interested. Bearing in mind over 50 York supporters partook of the pre-match fayre at Scarborough earlier in the season.

The last time i asked the organiser there were no paying Scarborough visitors! (obviously the usual free loading blazers will be queuing up to get the snouts in the trough!)

So I ask the question are Scarborough fans skin flints and as tight as a Camel's inside-centre in a sandstorm?

or is it just York that they fail to reciprocate with?

North One / League Decider?
« on: January 18, 2019, 11:32:21 AM »
Will the clash at Morpeth this weekend between the top two in the table decide the outcome of this league?

Morpeth have the meanest defence in the league and the Globetrotters have the highest scoring attack.

Both have identical records in the wins, losses and draws columns but Scarborough's 5 point current lead at the top of the table is down to 5 more try bonus points than Morpeth.

So a 5 point home win, together with denying the visitors anything would square everything up at the top.

All to play for and a game that will thoroughly examine Scarborough's Champions credentials.

For me, an away win will decide the outcome of this league and justify Scarborough's significant investment in their semi professional players.

As Silver Royd are getting some returns for their off shore investments!

1. So how long will it last?
2. Will we see a further influx of Antipodean rugby refugees on two year contracts?
3. Who has the financial backing to catch them?

Plain sailing to Northern Premier One, in my view for the candyfloss boys!

North One / Early Season Injures
« on: September 28, 2018, 08:50:02 AM »
York have picked up injuries to 5 players so far that might take longer than a few weeks to recover from.

So big challenge for the York boys this weekend away at Malton.

That said still a decent side taking to the field, so it should be a good test.

Not sure how many officiated this weekend in this league?
But the guy who was at York did ok
He didn’t pay enough attention to the offside sneaks by PP who played him better than York but overall 7 out of 10!

North One / Best of the West

East Yorkshire has 5 sides in this league, but so have West Yorkshire.

With B and B failing to impress so far, West Leeds, another preseason favourite coming unstuck at Morley!

Is it going to be YMCA who emerge as the strongest contenders for league glory from the Wessies?

York travel to Heath on Saturday wanting to right some wrongs!

A poor performance at Beverley last week, preceded by the nervous draw against Heath at home the week before. Should more than enough motivation for the York boys to get back onto the "winning road" at Heath on Saturday!

So hopefully the Heath boys would have finished drowning their sorrows, after blowing a great chance to come second in the league and summon up enough enthusiasm to give York a game!
