Yorkshire 1 / Week 7 Predictions & Chat

Some interesting fixtures this week with an obvious standout for me in Ribb v Ensians. Bottom 6 all have potentially winnable fixtures as well so big weekend for some of the struggling clubs looking to start climbing the table.
Beverley v Keighley
Bridlington v Wath Upon Dearne
North Ribblesdale v Hullensians
Pocklington v Harrogate Pythons
Wensleydale v Old Rishworthian
West Leeds v Leodiensian

Been a funny season so far. Don’t think many would have had Pythons, Ribb and Wath in the top 4 and I’m sure no-one would have had West Leeds and Wensleydale in the bottom 2! Only 4 games in so plenty far to go yet. On the other hand it’s 18% of the season over so clubs won’t want to leave it too long before getting wins on the board.

Other Senior Rugby / Future Competition Structure

From the latest RFU briefing it looks like they are going to try and force through allowing 2nd XV's into the leagues again. Info being sent out mid-September so tell your club secretaries to keep an eye out.
Can see the full document here https://www.rfunorth.com/news/ and it talks about the Papa John's, promotion/relegation, registration etc but the bit about the lower XV's is this:
Changes for the 2025-26 Season
1. Future of Lower XVs in RFU Leagues
• Reconfirmation Required: Nine CBs that opted out of including LXV teams must
reconfirm their position by mid-October 2024. Information will be sent to clubs and
CBs in September.
2. Raising the ‘Ceiling’ for LXVs
• New Ceiling: The ceiling for LXVs will be raised from Counties 1 to Regional 2 to
address competitive imbalance and allow fair progression, effective from the 2025-
26 season.

Who's going to take the title this year? Northallerton and Vandals dominated Y3 last year so you'd expect them to be well place to push up the table. Will Bradford & Bingley be able to find their level after a few tough seasons? Have Baildon got enough brown envelopes to last the whole season?
Anyone willing to stick their neck out and make some early predictions for promotion and relegation?

Really is anyone's league for the taking this year. Otliensians and Thornensians were resurgent last year and will look to push on this season. Corinthians will want to bounce straight back up. A couple of signings and a good run of availability could see anyone challenge at the top.
Any early season predictions or thoughts?

A few new faces in Y4 this season and good to see a couple of the teams that struggled last year sticking it out as well. Looks like a format where everyone plays each other 3 times and doesn't play anyone in the other division. Not sure whether there'll then be playoffs or they'll just take the champions of each region.

Interesting match ups for the opening weekend. Good opportunity to put down a marker early on. Also see only 1 break week during the first 10 fixtures, not sure this was the point of reducing the fixture list as there's less free weekends than ever and certainly no room for cup competitions.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of polo shirts? We use O’Neills for the rest of our stash but we’ve found the polo shirt quality and sizing to be fairly poor. Ideally something you can customise a little bit to be anything other than the usual plain block colour shirt.

The final fling of 2023/24 with plenty still to play for. Every team can still move at least one league position but all eyes on the top where Salem know that a BP win away at West Leeds will secure them the title whilst Wetherby lie in wait hoping to take advantage of any slip ups.

Yorkshire 1 / Promotion/Relegation
« on: March 05, 2024, 07:26:09 PM »
Confirmed that it will be the 18 Counties 1 league winners promoted plus the next best 6 based on points gained percentage. That makes it an uphill struggle for a team in Yorkshire 1 as Wetherby can only get to 80% if they take all 15 remaining points and the top 6 are all comfortably in the 80’s.

However, with the Jersey situation there is a possibility that 11th in North East 2 may yet get reprieved. Crossleyans are currently right on the borderline and Glossop are 12th meaning no-one could be relegated into Yorkshire 1. Presumably this would then mean they either promote 2nd place anyway or don’t relegate 11th place. Who knows. Clear as mud. All info below.
