Yorkshire 2 / Quality of refereeing at Yorkshire 2
« on: March 12, 2017, 05:45:00 PM »
I feel this is a topic in need of discussion.

I personally have felt the quality of refereeing this year has been as lack-luster as the new series of Top Gear. Yesterday was a perfect example, as it has often been this season: not interpreting the break-down correctly (allowing players to hold on the deck, then penalizing the competing player for eventually being off their feet), penalizing players for asking their captains to have a word, because it was 'about their authority on the pitch' even though nothing was directly said to them, and could not offer a reason for at least 2 penalties given when asked by players. Are Yorkshire RFU getting it wrong when training refs? Should they be assessed more often for the level they ref, not just when they wish to push on through the leagues?

Before anyone says, I will fully admit I am a bit sour about it, especially because I was the one penalised at the end for legally competing for the ball at the breakdown, being the second man in and being on my feet for at least 10 seconds, but this isn't a reason why we lost to Thorne yesterday because if they had kicked all their penalties, we would have lost by more than 1 point, which is on us. Thorne took their chances and deserved their victory. But it does beg the question how awful decisions can affect the game for both side, because that is exactly what the standard of refereeing did yesterday and has done quite a few times this season.

It would be good to get people's opinions on this as I feel a lot of referees at this level make it more about themselves rather than the game. The best ref for us in my opinion this year was a female referee who was brilliant and who was all about the game.

So, come June Im pretty much going to not be doing anything until I start my new (hopefully) job in September. This means that, amongst other things I'm going to be pretty bored.

I have always juggled with the idea of creating my own app for android / ISO I think the summer will be a good time for me to do this.

As we know, most people on this forum post about anything and everything, from results, to gossip and everything in between.

My idea is to create an app that collates all this information. From results, the news from club throughout Yorkshire, and possibly contact details for fixtures for both senior and junior. One easy to use app with everything all in one place. I don't know how yet, I'm pretty sure you can create something that when a twitter page, website or facebook is updated, it would automatically update the app.

This would then be linked to yorkshirerugby.net also.

This is thought in progress but I wanted to get peoples views on the idea, if it would be something people would go for. Also any ideas for the app are welcome.

Merit Leagues / 21st September Results
« on: September 21, 2013, 08:19:56 PM »
Wath went down 17 - 7 to Sheffield Tigers at home in a repeat of the Gerry Roberts Semi-Final last season. The score doesn't reflect the game. For the last 20 minutes the game could have gone either way. The score was 10-7 to Tigers with 5 minutes to go, but Tigers supported well and got the final word. Both 2nds and 1sts were under strength today with a lot of backs moving up throughout the teams, but we are happy with the performance we put in today and its a great marker for us to compare to for this season in Championship Merit against a Premier Merit team.

Enjoyed every bit of the game

Other Senior Rugby / Canterbury To Supply New England Kit
« on: March 02, 2012, 02:58:30 PM »
Taken from South Yorkshire Rugby Website

"The RFU have today announced a new long term partnership with Canterbury.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) today announced a long-term partnership with Canterbury, the world’s leading rugby brand, to become their official kit partner.

The four-year agreement will see Canterbury supplying kit to the England Senior, Saxons, Sevens, Women’s and age grade representative teams from September 2012 to beyond the Rugby World Cup in 2015.

The partnership brings together two brands with great rugby heritage and tradition, in addition to an unrivalled passion for the sport and its fans. For the RFU it also represents the largest kit partnership in the Union’s history, allowing continued investment into all levels of the game which is at the heart of the strategic focus for both organisations.

Sophie Goldschmidt, RFU Chief Commercial Officer, said: "We are delighted about this new partnership with Canterbury. The brand is recognised by players and fans alike and its heritage in rugby is unrivalled. The excellent quality of playing apparel Canterbury is famed for will also ensure the England teams have the best technical kit available to assist them on and off the pitch. This new exciting partnership will allow the Rugby Football Union to further invest in the game."

Chris Stephenson, CEO of Canterbury, said: "The partnership with the Rugby Football Union is the perfect combination of two brands steeped in rugby history that rugby fans know and respect. We are excited at the prospect of developing this relationship and enhancing the awareness of rugby to a wider audience with the aim of increasing participation levels.

"With over a century of experience in producing the highest quality playing apparel, designed specifically to maximise performance, we pride ourselves on producing the strongest, most technologically advanced kits available."

Its an idea i had for the forum to create a new section.

A section where players can post different training programmes, whether it be weight training, fitness training, weight gain and other things. They can be programmes players are using, what has worked what hasnt worked, or just general training principles that can be posted.

In addition to this we could collaborate an exercise database complete with videos on form.

Doing this would attract more members, and it would be easy to come straight here like many of us do for rugby instead of endless searching on the internet

Just a thought, any suggestions?

Yorkshire 2 / Wath's Exciting New Coaching Annoucement
« on: June 01, 2011, 03:21:01 PM »
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/wathondearne/news/exciting-new-coaching-announce-317057.html

As you can see, Former Wath Junior, Dinnington Colt and Rotherham Titans backrow Ryan Burrows as joined the coaching staff at Wath for the 2011 - 2012 season. No doubt this can only benefit the club greatly.

As anyone else had any similar developments at their club where a professional player of high standard as become majorly involved in the club in any way in the past or may in the not so distant future?

Other Senior Rugby / Scunthorpe 2nds Vs Scunthorpe 3rds - Merit League
« on: March 21, 2011, 08:38:06 AM »
It is my understanding looking from the league table that Scunthorpe 2nds maybe relegated to Merit League 1 where their 3rd team are currently playing. Which would mean that next season their 2nds and 3rds would have to play each other.

As this happened before in the leagues history with any teams? I can see this maybe becoming a problem in certain situations, such as if it is a promotion or relegation game where controversy could be a problem with people possibly arguing of game fixing etc.

So how would this work ? also it would mean other teams in merit league 1 would have to play them each.

Yorkshire 3 / Wath Vs Goole - Match of the season ?
« on: March 11, 2011, 01:37:32 PM »
As we draw closer to the end of the season, this Saturday see Wath Vs Goole with their last outing way back in November. Whilst Wath went on to win 48-13, it will be good to see how far both teams have come in the last few months.

Nothing is certain, and Goole will most certainly provide the an upfront battle with home advantage behind them. Saturday will see the match of the season on paper, and will show a good indication at where both teams are in terms of playing ability and if each teams strength will be good enough if both gain promotion to Yorkshire 2 next season.

Prior to this game, Wath U13 Vs Goole U13 will play a curtain raiser before the match, which is good to see both sides committed to their junior sections.

So for any Neutrals that enjoy a good game of Rugby, or any people who follow Yorkshire 3, get yourself to Goole as it will be an enjoyable afternoon.

Any thoughts ?
