North One / Manning Smith
« on: December 01, 2019, 02:25:27 PM »
I have just heard the incredibly bad news that a recent Scarborough overseas player Manning Smith has died. He was a very pleasant  young man and has been taken way too early as he was only in his very early twenties.
Apart from being an excellent player he was very polite and sociable with a good sense of humour.
I am sure our players and those who had the pleasure of meeting him are deeply saddened.
I understand there is a donation page set up to help his family. Hopefully BRB can post a link

Yorkshire 1 / Professional Rugby comes to Scarborough
« on: October 11, 2014, 09:06:41 AM »
After receiving a number of emails from SRUFC proclaiming "Professional Rugby comes to Scarborough" I wondered if they were referring to the Carnegie / Titans game last night or the visit of Phoenix today?

What a bad week for English sport and sadly there seems to be a theme running through.
England lose to Chile and then Germany at football
England lose to the All Blacks at Rugby Union (from a good position)
England lose the first cricket test to Australia (from a good position)
England lose to the Kiwis at Rugby League (from a really good position)
They all had the ability and opportunity to win but when it really counts why is it other countries can find something extra when facing a losing situation or hammer home the slightest advantage when presented
Is there something missing from the British psyche? (Include Ireland and Scotland and you've got more examples)
Have we just not got the killer instinct, the bottle under pressure or that extra something?

Yorkshire 1 / Scrums
« on: September 08, 2013, 08:13:35 PM »
So how did you all find the new scrum engagement sequence and referee's interpretation around the put in?
Hopefully none of you hookers feel vulnerable because you now have to turn your hips and take one foot off the ground whilst hooking the ball. Hopefully nobody thinks the scrum is now unfair because the opposition can have 8 players in pushing positions and you only have seven when the ball is put in (down the middle)
Premiership players whinging whilst I suspect Y1 will just get on with it
Still can't see Scrum halves being able to put the ball in straight

Wayne Barnes continues to demonstrate how inept he is. Poor decisions on both sides. 5 offences already for early engagement - perhaps if he didn't leave such a long gap between touch and set (longer than it would take to say pause) it might not happen

Other Senior Rugby / RIP Ian Kirkpatrick

For those old enough to remember  SA player from the 50s 60s and went on to be a selector (certainly for the '74 Lions tour) and a massive influence on SA rugby for decades

Other Senior Rugby / England v Australia
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:02:49 PM »
First of all, why purple? (It did however allow the press the headline "England Marooned" and "Purple Haze")
Worrying times I think for England, bags of possession but no real penetration. Expected dominance in scrum nowhere to be seen.
The England midfield bereft of variety and guile and so predictable the Aussies couldn't believe their luck. Ashton lives on his reputation from two seasons ago. Put him in a dominant side going forward with plenty of ball and he'll score a few (must have kicked himself for missing Fiji) but its when you have a tight game with little space he becomes ineffective and one dimensional.
Think they need a few changes not least bringing in Corbisiero and starting Launchbury.
Big improvement needed to face SA and the ABs

Yorkshire 1 / Wikirugby leaks

So Mr Wikirugby leaks. No gossip from Scarborough then? Though you'd be leading with any surprises from Silver Royd.
