Other Senior Rugby / In need of some help!
« on: April 30, 2019, 04:57:45 PM »
This may seem a bit cheeky but I’m needing some assistance!
For those who don’t know (and I’m sure there’s many who don’t care or even know who I am), it may surprise you to learn that, with my fondness for ensuring rules are adhered to, I’m a police officer and that I, along with a couple of other Yorkshire based players, play for the England Police Rugby team.
We are traveling in September to play in the Police World championships in Hong Kong. Due to the poor funding of the police in general, this tour is completely self-funded by sponsorship and I’m sure you can appreciate a tour to Hong Kong for 20 odd players and staff isn’t a cheap thing to do. The way this is done by asking businesses to get involved in a number of different ways, including putting adverts in our match programmes and tour brochure, these are cost £125 for a half page ad and £250 for the full. The full amount goes into the cost of the tour.
Here are a list of reasons why you would do such a thing:
  • -          You love the police and think the idea of having a team of them representing the country is a great idea.
  • -          You think I’m a top guy and would enjoy the thought of helping me out.
  • -          There’s a chance that your team will be playing Pontefract in some the weeks of September and October and it would be beneficial in not having to see an aging back row forward looking to use his skilful handling and agile footwork against your team.
  • -          You’re a business with a smart accountant who has an ability to off-set your advertising budget against your tax.
  • -          You are a criminal who would see nothing but positives of having 20 odd cops out of the country for a couple of weeks.

If you have a business or have some influence with the gaffer and would like to help, drop me a message on here and we can have a chat about setting something up, be it an advert or if you want to be more involved (ie shirt sponsorship and other avenues). Also if you'd just like to take the mick you can also do that, it'll keep the topic active.

Thanks for reading, Gaz.

So, how much can an ageing Rugby League player earn in NE1?

Asking for a friend.

Wheatleys recent AGM had a full 10 minute section dedicated to how poor their back line was and their intention is to sign an entire new back line, full of young players who are ready to quit a local teams youth set up.

Must have been great listening for the lads, plenty of young club players, sat in the meeting, hearing how there efforts aren't good enough for the club and they're planning on replacing them for imports.

Sad state of affairs from a club I once would have done anything for.

Other Senior Rugby / One year to go
« on: October 24, 2015, 09:23:29 PM »

Not seen footage, but mine can't be worse, am I wrong to feel aggrieved that a professional gets 6 weeks while I still have a year to go from my 3 year sentence?

Other Senior Rugby / World Cup "Squads"
« on: October 13, 2015, 09:41:18 AM »
Can anybody explain to me, what is the point in naming a squad before the start of a tournament if you can keep adding to it when someone gets injured? Surely that defeats the purpose?

Regional Two (North & North East) / August is here.....
« on: August 06, 2015, 11:10:24 AM »
So teams must be back into the swing, so let's get this place back off holiday.

How's training going, what's the squads looking like?

Who's playing who in friendlies?

Have Phoenix started paying by BACS or still using the brown envelope?  ;D

Please vote for Wheatley Hills, the only Yorkshire club left in this "competition" (I still class Hull as Humberside). The prize is to win a training session with England players, not sure if it's to train them or be trained by them.

Just click the link below and vote for Hills, it's the bottom right.

New site looks good Steve, but I'm worried the change will be too drastic for some of the dinosaurs involved in modern rugby.  ;D

Other Senior Rugby / Tradition gone too far

Just came across this disciplinary report. Unbelievable. Plus it's a nice change for everyone to read a report that doesn't have my name in it.

Very generously reduced by the panel from 3 and a half years to just 3 years. Not sure what to say but I'll have a think about and give you the full story and video in the morning.

Rugby Club Products and Services / X-Blade Boots, Big discount
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:06:28 PM »
Not sure how many of you are aware of X-Blades yet, they are the boot of choice for Rugby players in Australia, and are now starting to pick up big names in the UK too (Gavin Henson, Sam Tomkins). I've worn them for the last season and they are great.

A mate of mine is the distributor for the UK and has let me have a 25% discount and says if I know anyone who wants a pair he'll let them have 25% off too, so just get in touch with me and I'll sort you out.

One of the Phoenix boys on with Ken Bruce this morning! Turned on late so I missed the questions, but he wasn't on 3 in 10 so can't have been that good!  :P
