Yorkshire 2 / Club Dinners

Picking up from Y4 thread, great night at WPL on Friday.

190 in attendance with representatives from all sections of club inc ladies.

Guest speaker Mark Regan. Very good once you get past the Bristol accent!

Really got involved, went right round the room to meet everyone and ran a charity auction that raised loads of dosh inc big contribution to the Nathan Cubitt fund.

Match 2: Senior Vase Final – Selby v Drybrook, KO 1pm
 
Match 3: Intermediate Cup Final – Bridlington v Brighton, KO 3pm

Mini & Junior Rugby / Yorkshire Under 15's and 16's Finals Day

On Sunday 28th April, West Park Leeds RUFC stages the Yorkshire Under 15's and 16's Finals day, featuring Cup, Plate and Bowl Finals.
 
There will be two games at the under 15's age group both kicking off at 11.00.
 
The matches for the U16's age group all kick off at 12.15.
 
West Park Leeds reached the final of the Under 16's Yorkshire Cup with another compelling performance away to Wharfedale on Wednesday evening. England fullback Tom Gorman ran in a hat trick while Finlay Fuller was amongst the other try scorers.

So far WPL have topped 40 points in each round, conceding only 25 points in the four ties played. For the second year running they will face Ripon in the final so a stern challenge is assured.

West Park Leeds v Ripon

This Sunday May 13th kick off 2pm at Hull Ionians

Should be a cracker! Each team has beat the other this season, this is the decider.

Merit Leagues / Something fishy going on?

The following has been passed on to me from a reliable source.

The Merit League rules, which are on the YRFU website, provide for the teams finishing top of the leagues immediately below the Championship to play off for the 2 promotion places available.

The winners of East (Malton) were to play South (Barnsley) and West (Salem) were to play Central (West Leeds).

The second match took place on the 28th April, West Leeds winning.

There was a provisional date of the 5th/6th May for the first game. However, this did not take place because Malton were told that they would be playing in the Premiership and the organisers were told that the Premiership would be expanded to 13 teams to accommodate them!

Can anyone shed any light? One can only imagine how Barnsley feel about this.

Congratulations to Leeds Grammar School Under 15s who won the Daily Mail RBS Cup at Twickenham yesterday.

The majority of the squad were also in the West Park Leeds side that won the Under 15s Yorkshire Cup on Sunday.

A unique double!

Other Senior Rugby / Yorkshire Post boycott

Went to phone in our match details after today's Y2 home game (WPL V Bradford Salem).

Was told Yorkshire Post has cut its coverage of Rugby Union by a third and therefore would not be carrying reports of any Yorkshire league matches from now on.

Can I suggest a boycott of the paper by all followers of the Yorkshire leagues until and unless coverage is restored?

Scene from a recent league encounter -

Scrum breaks up near halfway, early in the 2nd half.

Home prop mutters something unintelligible to his opposite number.

Opponent replies, "Look at the scoreboard." (His side is 20 points up).

(Out of area) referee says, "That's intimidation." Ref awards penalty to home team.

This really happened! :o

Yorkshire 1 / Difference Yorkshire 1 and Yorkshire 2

As a newcomer to this forum I was wondering how many agree with me that talk of the difference between Yorkshire 1 and 2 is greatly exagerrated?

I don't think that the standard in Yorkshire 2 is really all that much better than Yorkshire1!
