« on: May 03, 2012, 01:19:21 PM »

Halifax are through to the final of the Aire-Wharfe Plate after a dramatic 16-15 win over Yarnbury on Wednesday night.

Halifax had trailed 15-6 to the Yorkshire Two-based outfit but a superb fightback – including a 16th try of the season for Toby Turner – saw them clinch the honours.

Fax will now take West Leeds in the final on Saturday at Bluehill Lane (3pm ko). All support is welcome as the club look to finish the season with silverware.

Halifax will confirm their 19-man squad for the game in due course.

Address: West Leeds RUFC, The Clubhouse, Bluehill Lane, Leeds, LS12 4NZ

Change to the Coaching Structure

With regret the club (Halifax RUFC) announces the resignation of Ian Clarke as 1st team coach. This is for personal reasons but the club would like to thank Ian or Sniffer as he is better known for transforming the performances over the last 14 months and instilled belief in all the players who played first team. The club faltered at the last hurdle for promotion last season but it was a fantastic success given the league position the year before. The 2nd team (Dukes) had a successful season and they too fell a little short of achieving promotion. The club has moved swiftly to appoint Mark Walton as Senior Head Coach ably supported by Nick O’Connor, Craig Emmerson, Stuart Hill and Chris O’Connor and we wish him well for what is an exciting time at Ovenden Park. Mark is a former player at Bedford, Sheffield, East Retford and was a player/Coach at Burley before becoming Head Coach. He joined Halifax in pre-season of 2011 and has impressed everyone around with his work ethic, enthusiasm and knowledge of the game at this level.

Jason Brian Chairman of Rugby “It has been great working with Sniffer over the last 14 months but I am sure that the foundations he has put in place will be enhanced by Mark and his coaching staff who will develop and coach all senior players as the club is very much looking forward to pre-season. There is a real buzz about the place when the seniors, juniors and Ladies are playing and hopefully that will continue into next season”

Mark Walton Senior Head Coach “I am happy to be part of an ambitious club and hope to mirror the successes in relation to both Burley's double promotion over the past 3 years.

The plans for pre-season are well underway and a players meeting will be held at the club on 30th May 7pm. An invite will go out to all Senior, Academy and Ladies players to attend. Watch this space for further details
