CALLING ALL CLUBS. PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS ON THE ABOVE SUBJECT IN OTHER SENIOR RUGBY. IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE THAT YOUR CLUB VOTES AGAINST THIS IF IT GOES TO A VOTE AS I BELIEVE IT WILL BRING ABOUT THE TOTAL DEMISE AND DISAPPEARENCE OF MANY GRASS ROOTS CLUBS. THIS IS BEING DRIVEN BY THE RFU BUT IS SUPPORTED BY MANY LARGER CLUBS IN THE COUNTY SUCH AS MORLEY,WHARFEDALE,OTLEY,HARROGATE,MIDDLESBOROUGH SHEFFIELD, HULL,IONIANS, PONTEFRACT, SANDAL. TO NAME BUT A FEW.
AVOID VOTING AGAINST IT AT YOUR PERIL. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Other Senior Rugby / Yorkshire cup comps.

No doubt that all the clubs who played at Doncaster last weekend had a good day out, and well done to all who participated. It is with interest that over four competitions only 32 teams actually took to the field. Not so long ago there was three comps, Cup,Shield, Silver Trophy that each had 32 teams in each competition. The Cup was for the top 28 in the county plus the shield semi finalists.
This year a total of 9 Teams actually played in the cup, 8 in the shield,8 in the Silver Trophy and 9 in the Vase.

It may be me alone, but surely the powers that be simply cannot ignore any longer the fact that the majority of clubs do not want to play in county cup comps. Clubs have voted with their feet, so its not just me.!!!
The sooner we get back to 14 team leagues that helps in the sustainability of all clubs the better.
I cant deny that some clubs who played on Saturday will strongly disagree, but the number of overall participants says it all.
Comments Please.

Emphatic win for us at Ribb today seven tries to one, we scored two early converted tries and then got our coach binned for backchat. Bramley then kicked two penalties to get within eight points.
Second half we started fast and soon scored two converted tries to give us our bonus. Bramley threatened mainly through their dangerous full back but our forwards were in the ascendency in the tight and scored another three tries to one from Bramley to give us a convincing win.
Fair play to Bramley who brought two teams on a bus trip and ran our Stags to two points in a close game. We wish them well in their next game and I am sure they will be ok.
It was good to meet Mr Caravan Man who will , I hope, confirm that DR Rucks assertion that we would save money and not entertain the Bramley masses was wide of the mark, and we helped in staving off Anorexia for the Bramley hierarchy for at least another two days.
Good day for two good rugby clubs.

Looking at the remaining fixtures Selby having to play two from the bottom three look a shoe-in for winning the league. Whilst taking nothing for granted, if I may, can I offer my personal congratulations on your recent progress and once the league is secured our congratulations from all of us at North Ribb. The only problem is that it makes us playing each other again and renewing long standing friendships seem so far away.
Fingers crossed you get the job done.

Fair game  at at Chelwood drive today.
We started like a house on fire scoring two beautifully manufactured tries through our young scrum half, one in support of a great backs move, and another from his own blindside break. We dominated most of the fist half scoring another two converted tries to give us a bonus point 28 - 0 interval lead. We rested a couple of players for the second half  but still scored another try, Credit to Hegians, for continually keeping the ball in play, and they scored a couple of decent tries at the death to leave a final score of 42 -12
That sees us promoted but with Waths big win against HLH We still need two wins to be champs. lets see and we will welcome Bramley next week for our penultimate game.

Maybe as chair of our club I have somehow missed the paraphanalia that is usually sent out so that we can all vote on who our representatives will be for Yorkshire Rugby on the RFU council. I notice on the Yorkshire website that Joe Bedford has been re-elected and that a Toni Birch is also elected for the next three years. Unless I am mistaken, or our club sec has dropped a clanger, I have not seen any correspondence regarding it or the opportunity for our club to vote.
Any comments please.

Yorkshire 2 / Cup game 9th March
« on: March 04, 2024, 11:57:00 AM »
Just so everyone is aware and no malicious rumours swirl around. We have decided with heavy hearts to concede our Trophy semi final against Bramley this coming Saturday. The biggest reason is that we have a, hitherto, unprecedented six players in the U20s county squad on Sunday that at a stroke wipes out almost half our team. With another couple of injuries from Saturday at Yarnbury we have reluctantly decided that our aim of promotion this season has to take precedence. It is the first time that I am aware that Ribb has done this but I just wanted to post the truth on here before the rumour mongers go into overdrive. Another consideration was that the final was 6 weeks after the league season ends and we would have had seven players unavailable due to Cricket commitments. Why Can the cup comps not be played before the regular season ends like it used to be.?? A six week gap is far from ideal in my opinion. Can I just say that we wish Bramley all the best for the final and apologies again from us.

Lively game today at Yarnbury. Eventually we proved the more creative side scoring Four first half tries to  giving us a 26 - 12 interval lead. Our ascendance in the tight was a big factor and we dominated the second half to convert several penalties and a try for a resounding win. Given Waths result it puts us in the driving seat but we still have three challenging games to overcome.
As an aside, and its only an observation. Since moving back north its the first tome in those 30 years that there was nobody from Yarnbury to welcome the us, or , more disappointing not even a cup of tea or a slice of "Fatty Bread" for what was an important fixture for the home side. We never travel in expectancy of anything, but it was an unusual atmosphere at a hitherto very welcoming club.

Noted that all the top four won today with only Ripon not getting a bonus point. We had a convincing 54 - 0 win against Corinthians who stuck to their task manfully in the second half despite being down to 12 at one point. Ribb scored some tremendous tries in the first half and led 35 - 0 at the interval. Second half was less one sided but we scored another three tries for an emphatic win. Corinthians stopped late after the game and that is appreciated after a heavy loss. Good luck to them in the future.
Our next game in two weeks is a biggy at Yarnbury. A win there will almost certainly guarantee a top two slot, however a loss opens the door for them to "Chase us down". Lets see.

Yorkshire 3 / skipton

As chair of North Ribb, I am genuinely sorry to see Skipton drop into the bottom two in Y3. In the late 40s they used to get huge crowds down and were the top side in the county without exception. I know there are good people there who care about the club but something seems amiss. I have no idea what it is, but I really hope they can pull it around and then build again next season.
Good luck Skipton.

Congratulations to a statement win by Ossett today over promotion hopefuls (not any more) Baildon.
Regulation wins for Ripon and Wath, Ripons appears to be another nail in the Corinthians coffin.
Unlucky Hemsworth it appears but at least got two bonus points to keep their noses in front of Bramley.

Looks an interesting run in with Yarnbury to play both Wath and Ribb. Looks a three horse race but Ripon could yet have a say.
