North One / Re: No rugby till 2021?
« on: April 30, 2020, 11:21:00 AM »
I did say in previous post that I was fearful that we might not play again this side of Christmas, I hope I am wrong, we should get some idea in next couple of weeks when some of the lock down measures are eased.

One thing is for sure that those who have invested in the Colts and youth sections will see some return for their investments.

The Globe trotters from the Southern Hemisphere who are shipped in by some clubs to top and tail turnips or hire out deck chairs will be in short supply!

In the 30 odd years I've known him, in work, play and watching rugby, DAA has never been wrong, he's a 'legend in his own mind'
Thank you Stubbs!

I am sure all at York will join me in offering our sincere condolences to the Beanland family at this very difficult time.

Any loss of a servant to our great game is a great loss to the rugby family as a whole! RIP

Well bloody we'll post about them then!! For all his faults at least DAA posted! I'm happy to joust with anyone but you have to post for that to happen!
Not sure which DAA you are talking about?

Everyone who knows me, knows that I do not have any faults, my rugby knowledge is superior to most and I am never wrong!! You can ask anyone at York!!

I would hope everyone at York wants the club to be successful DAA, I’m sure they do. Success next year as I have already written on depends on striking the right balance between, keeping existing players ( which hopefully will happen), bringing new players in of the right quality, (hopefully they will be walk ins) and getting the existing players  to buy into what the club is doing. If we don’t get any new players and we have a lot of injuries we will get relegated, if we bring in players and get injuries we may have a chance of staying up. It’s not rocket science.
Regrettably our AGM has been postponed however when we eventually have it we will have chance to ask questions and air our views, whilst at the same time accepting they are the elected individuals we have put in the position to make the decisions they have/will take. We must trust in what the club is/will be doing which includes developing the squad around last years players.
All of which I agree with!

But developing the squad at this level will cost money!!

We have a number of players who are capable of playing at least in the Nat 2 league and even Nat 1, who have been playing for the club that they grew up in.

You import mercenaries, without regard to the loyalty of your present players, you may risk splitting the club in half!!

We will have to wait and see!

Remember we are an amateur club!!

Maybe DAA could raise his hand and volunteer to help run the club...then York can find someone else to take pops from.the sidelines!
Been there, done that! I have earn't my retirement to the sidelines!!!

As a Morpeth fan, disappointed to have been relegated by the 'formula', but if we were in this situation 12 months ago, we'd be screaming for the formula scenario!

We had started playing some good rugby and were confident of picking up some points in the last 4 games. Too little too late but great to be back amongst some familiar clubs that we enjoy playing (and some new ones). The hope is to bounce back up, but we know it won't be easy!

Congrats to York, you can't argue at their dominance in the league, and best of luck in North Prem. We gave it a crack without the brown envelopes, (which we have always done), and didn't embarrass ourselves. Home form is crucial, and we lost too many of ours! Hopefully you can get on an early role and make a good fist of it! Best of luck.
Thanks NE1 fan.
Must admit i made the journey to watch your demolition of York last season. I was very impressed with your performance and your club. a proper rugby club. I also stayed locally so i was the last York visitor to leave your club after watching various presentations to squad and team members. If you keep that ethos you will enjoy your rugby at whatever level in whichever league!
I obviously want York to be successful but not at the expense of what they have achieved recently nor at the expense of those who have got us this far!

I think the question is how on earth were Scarborough awarded 10 points under the formula when they had to play 4 teams in their remaining fixtures, who already beaten them earlier in the season?

I'm not sure York can be classed as champions... I'm afraid they should only be classed as promoted.

What are Scabs classed as in that case? “Rescued?”
We're gutted ...we.were just starting a charge...
The close of the season early helped you dodge a bullet! Given the points that you were generously awarded by a formula that did not take into account your recent and current form, nor the difficulty of the fixtures you had remaining.

Its just as well you had a good start to the season otherwise you may well have been back in Yorkshire 1!

No you won't!! You'll have to encourage people onto this one!!
I'm sure the same rules apply for all pundit league contributors, it does not preclude you entering. irrespective of the league the team you are associated with!!

It didnt take long for the mask to slip BRB. Just as well for your sake you are not working in a HDU!!

Judging by the lack of engagement on this forum, I suspect we will be wanting to dip our toes back in at the North One level.

Anyway I am defending Pundits league champion and i intend to make it three on the bounce next season, whenever that is!

To be fair it takes 5 years + for pitches to settle down. However that doesn't alter the fact they have had a massive fall from grace and will never recover. Completely and entirely self inflicted.
Not entirely true BRB. You should stop shooting from the hip!!

Pleased for Harrogate that they got promoted even by the duckwith/lewis formula!

Disappointed for York because that would have been our local derby next season. we have got the mighty Otley as a replacement!

Promotion twice in 3 years is a fantastic achievement and congratulations to all involved, players, coaches and administration. Staying up will be difficult but is well within our means. Most certainly we will need to strengthen the squad, however the vast majority of the the squad with further development are capable of playing in North Prem. If we stay relatively injury free, strengthen in the right areas and perhaps most importantly the players commit to what this step up in league will demand we will be ok.
Next season we will only have 2 other teams from Yorkshire in our league (Sandal & Otley, yes Otley, who would have thought that 3 years ago with I believe 4 levels between us) and 9 trips across the Pennines. These will involve all day trips with early starts and late returns, how are wives and girlfriends going to accept that. Putting rugby ahead of personal life for 8 months of the year is a big ask. Finding the balance and communicating availability and honouring there commitment will be key. The powers that be I understand are addressing all this, but player buy in to what the club is doing is paramount.
We will also now be playing rugby at one level below Rotherham and Hull Ionians, if you add Otley to this list these are all team that have often approached our key players. Key players that have remained loyal to York and are now enjoying all fruits of their and the clubs hard work and ambitions.
Maybe just maybe some of these teams players may want to be part of what we have built and are looking to achieve. After all we are at the centre of Yorkshire and are arguably the county’s capital.
I was asked today did we want to be promoted, to right we do, the vast majority at the club share my view, those running the team certainly do, 100% the players did. If more members become further involved more closely then let’s see where we can go. As a club in the early 80’s we got to then level 5, we couldn’t sustain those heady heights. Let’s get it right this time.
DK the time previously that York got to this level many of the players couldn't get their boots on due the the thickness of brown envelopes in them!! and when they could get them on they bxggered off!!
The temptation to bring players in other than your own home grown talent, especially from teams from higher leagues, will be expensive and divisive!!
In the chasing of signings, don't overlook what has got you to where you are!
Otherwise you might lose the support of the players, who have chosen to return to York rather than chase a pay day shilling!!

Don’t want to dwell to much on the past DAA our team back then consisted of 8/9 of a colts team from 8/10 years earlier....4/5 of us tried our hand at senior clubs and then came back...does that ring bells with what’s happen in the last 2/3 years....and the majority of others moved to the area through work, Nigel Connell ex Morley, John Ainslie ex Selkirk to name just 2 they certainly didn’t come for money.....granted we did get a few quid in our boots but nothing to the extent you allude to....nor should it happen to the extent you suggest.
We should bring as many home grown players through the youth section and we will , after all it is arguably the best in Yorkshire.....as for recruiting other players.....yes we should.....how it’s is done is the key.....I’m pretty sure our existing players want to continue to be part of a successful team in a successful club.....they need to buy into this and hopefully accept that it will enable them to continue to play at this level and maybe higher still...more experienced players will help them develop their skill set even further...they should not see it as a threat to their position in the squad they should see it as a challenge....they only need to look at the experience our current backs coach brought to the club to see that at first hand......just one further thing DAA how many players are playing at Otley, Hull I’s and Rotherham that came through our youth section...may be they will return like others already have and finally how many others living in York travel to these clubs to play.... depends on everyone’s ambition as to where we end up

DK to deny the past is a mistake, just like the probable £1000.s that were squandered on expenses for players who did not improve the club and cleared of as soon as a better offer came along!

I concede that the recruitment of D has been worth every penny as a player/coach. However we did not have an out and out 10 who could run a game like he does. Additionally he has brought some excellent coaching skills that the whole group has benefited from !!

you know as well as I do, that the club aren't going to pay expenses to players who are going to sit on the bench or play in the 2's?

If a player is receiving expenses the coaching staff or recruiter will be compelled to play them irrespective, to justify the expense! That will mean someone will have to make way and that is where the rot sets in!
Play the side at the level they can cope with together as the unit that have brought us this far. Learn the lessons of the past, we are supposed to be an amateur club!
