In a period where we've seen clubs fold it's nice to see a new club stepping forwards. Hopefully a good season establishing themselves in a very competitive merit league before entering the league structure and working their way up.

The comments on justgiving are comedy gold. How tone deaf do you have to be to ask for money while paying players ridiculous amounts to get you from level 7 to level 6?

Knowing the mentality at the Bees. I believe their bid to restore lowly(for them) Y1 status has already begun. They simply cant get it out of their myopic minds that the only way to succeed is to SPLASH THE CASH on average players. They can no longer compete with high flying Salem in the money stakes.

Bees have announced 9 new signings so far and a lot of them seem to be returning players. Whether they are splashing the cash or not you’d expect them to be competitive as most of those would have played with them in higher leagues.

Interesting match ups for the opening weekend. Good opportunity to put down a marker early on. Also see only 1 break week during the first 10 fixtures, not sure this was the point of reducing the fixture list as there's less free weekends than ever and certainly no room for cup competitions.
I count 3 free weekends. Interestingly, they are different to R2. In that league they have a full fixture list on 21st Dec whereas Y1 breaks on the 14th.

7 fixtures
Break
3 fixtures
Break

After November the schedule becomes more manageable, assuming there isn't a ton of re-arranged fixtures. Scheduling fixtures on 21st December seems really stupid whatever league you are in. The likelihood of the pitches being playable then is questionable anyway but it's still stupid to have fixtures that close to xmas.

Who's going to take the title this year? Northallerton and Vandals dominated Y3 last year so you'd expect them to be well place to push up the table. Will Bradford & Bingley be able to find their level after a few tough seasons? Have Baildon got enough brown envelopes to last the whole season?

Anyone willing to stick their neck out and make some early predictions for promotion and relegation?

Really is anyone's league for the taking this year. Otliensians and Thornensians were resurgent last year and will look to push on this season. Corinthians will want to bounce straight back up. A couple of signings and a good run of availability could see anyone challenge at the top.

Any early season predictions or thoughts?

A few new faces in Y4 this season and good to see a couple of the teams that struggled last year sticking it out as well. Looks like a format where everyone plays each other 3 times and doesn't play anyone in the other division. Not sure whether there'll then be playoffs or they'll just take the champions of each region.

Yes, the website was playing up.
I had the same problems yesterday.

All I can suggest is to try again.

Yeah got it now. Was doing the same a lot on saturday afternoons last season so maybe just not capable of handling a lot of traffic.

Is it just me or is the site not loading anything up? Currently comes up with no results to display and won't let you select any leagues or seasons.

Can anyone recommend a supplier of polo shirts? We use O’Neills for the rest of our stash but we’ve found the polo shirt quality and sizing to be fairly poor. Ideally something you can customise a little bit to be anything other than the usual plain block colour shirt.

Good to see the phantom teams still in there.........

I suppose everyone is optimistic going into the season that they’ll have enough players. Fixture secs should have a good idea of who to avoid by now though.

Difficult one to call not knowing what state clubs coming up/down are in. This is all very much 'finger in the air' and will massively depend on who teams have lost or recruited. Keighley have to be favourites based on their positions the last couple of seasons. Pock finished strongly and Brid will be looking to bounce back. West Leeds fell off a cliff last year so would expect them to regroup and push top 4 again. Leos had a poor 2nd half of the season so will be in trouble if that continues. Old Rish pulled off some cracking results but struggled for consistency, should be enough in the tank to push themselves well clear of the bottom 4 though. Beverley and Hullensians will want to do better than they did last year and will have to improve with 2 strong sides coming up. Wensleydale got a bit found out at times last year when Larder and Stanwix were missing but their home record and pack strength will see them win enough games to get mid table.

As for the teams coming up: Wath are a big uncompromising side who have a very effective gameplan and play their home ground very well. I can see them doing similar to Wensleydale last season and home results pushing them well clear of the bottom 2. My dark horse are North Ribb though. They have always had a very good pack but by all accounts have now got a backline to match it with plenty of young talent. If they are keeping that side together then there's every chance they could push the top 4. Ribb is a place where you will receive a warm welcome everywhere but the pitch so I'd earmark that fixture for a bus trip early on.

From our point of view at Pythons we found it to be a massive step up last year and our squad depth was severely tested. We are losing a few players to retirements and also our head coach but we are also likely gaining a couple of players plus hopefully welcoming back some long term injuries. We really struggled towards the end of the season with a patchwork side limping to the finish line but there were a lot of games earlier in the season we felt we should have won so if we can have a bit more consistency in selection and be more clinical there's every chance we could push ourselves higher up in the table. I know we could have done better last year and we learned a lot so I'm going to back us for a top 6 finish.

1. Keighley
2. Pocklington
3. North Ribblesdale
4. Bridlington
5. West Leeds
6. Pythons
7. Old Rishworthian
8. Wensleydale
9. Wath upon Dearne
10. Beverley
11. Hullensians
12. Leodiensian

Beverley 58 - 33 Peterborough
York RI 28 - 35 Ashton under Lyne

5 out of 7 for the Yorkshire clubs in the finals. Congratulations to all the winners. For as much as the competition is rightly derided, by all accounts the finals days are very enjoyable. Hopefully this will encourage better participation.
