Well Barnsley have named a squad so looks like it won’t be a HWO for Baildon.

Baildon v Barnsley - either a HWO or a massive home win. Baildon +7 or HWO

Bramley Phoenix v Yarnbury - I don’t really know how to call this one. Yarnbury aren’t too great on the road usually but Bramley have been very hit and miss, even at home. Going with home advantage Bramley -7

Ripon v Northallerton - I think North will give Ripon a real test in the forwards but will have too much for them in the backs. Ripon +7

Wath Upon Dearne v North Ribblesdale - North Ribb haven’t had the best time on the road so far and this will be a long day out. Wath +7

Wensleydale v Leeds Corinthians - this really depends on which Corinthians turn up. They obviously did well to turn over Dale earlier in the season (only side to do so) but Dale have been going from strength to strength since. I think the small pitch will suit Corinthians and Dale could be caught cold after 3 weeks off, going to go controversial with an away win, possibly more in hope than anything else! Corinthians -7

Wheatley Hills v Harrogate Pythons - I think Wheatley Hills’ position in the table belies their ability. Apart from a couple of games they’ve been there or thereabouts in all their games and will be a tough side to beat at home. Always back yourselves though Pythons +7

Frustrating game for us today. A combination of errors at crucial times cost us a couple of certain tries and the field position to push for others. Credit to Wath, they played to their strengths and never went away. 10 wins in a row now though and a point off the top at the half way stage. We’d certainly have taken that for our first season at this level, there’s been no easy games though so expecting a tough 2nd half of the season.

Be interesting to see whether us and Wensleydale can keep it up at the top, whether Baildon and Wath can stay in contention or whether any of the middle 4 can push themselves up the table. All to play for st the bottom as well. Barnsley nailed on to finish bottom but Northallerton’s resurgence might have Wheatley Hills, Bramley and even possibly Ripon looking nervously over their shoulders. Certainly all to play for at both ends!

Although Bramley are a tough side to beat, particular at home, Dale’s power in the forwards will cause them all sorts of problems. Wensleydale +7

Looks like some belting contests today. Ours certainly was vs Ripon. A proper derby.

Bramley Phoenix v Leeds Corinthians - don’t really know what to expect from Corinthians at the moment. It’s only a short trip so away game shouldn’t be a huge factor. Bramley were very solid defensively last week but will have to up their attacking output this week. Predicting a close one with lots of points from the boot. Bramley -7

Northallerton v North Ribblesdale - Ribb struggling on their travels and North improving every week. Northallerton -7

Ripon v Harrogate Pythons - so excited for this HG postcode derby! Not sure the 1st teams have faced each other before either. Form book goes out of the window in a derby so I’m sure it’s going to be a great game! Always back yourselves. Pythons +7

Wath-upon-Dearne v Barnsley - short away day so hopefully not a walkover. Should be a sizeable home win though. Wath +7

Wensleydale v Baildon - another belter of a game with 2nd v 3rd. Still can’t see Dale losing a game at home this year so going for Wensleydale +7

Wheatley Hills v Yarnbury - bit of a pasting for Wheatley Hills last week so I’m sure they’ll be looking to bounce back. Yarnbury have struggled on their travels so going for Wheatley Hills -7

Fully agree and well done to get a game on.  However, it’s not the rugby lads want to play.

Massive confusion over rules etc and it’s just a hybrid ‘game’ you can play in training.

Trees could have just put all their backs and back row subs on from the start but didn’t. So it wasn’t a cricket score but if the league eventually comes down to points difference etc I don’t think it’s fair for anyone especially the piano shifters.

What’s to stop a team just picking backrow players up front and leaving the big boys in the bar?

No scrums, no real line outs, no real mauling, 10-13 men.  Results stand league wise inc. points and bonus points

Doesn’t feel right somehow

It might not be the rugby lads want to play, but it’s better than a walkover. You have to look at the financial impact as well. If a game is cancelled where there’s a pre match lunch for 100 people as we’ve seen a few times across various leagues how much could that impact a club in lost revenue? Not just for expense on the day and lost bar takings but the image it gives to sponsors and potential sponsors about how wise it is to invest in rugby at the moment.

Yorkshire 2 / Week 8 Results

Sorry for not posting earlier, went straight off for work. A couple of tight games there but not too many surprises.

Bramley Phoenix HWO Barnsley
North Ribblesdale 21 - 0 Leeds Corinthians
Northallerton 19 - 24 Harrogate Pythons
Ripon 20 - 39 Baildon
Wath Upon Dearne 19 - 18 Wheatley Hills
Wensleydale 35 - 12 Yarnbury

Our game was certainly a game of 2 halves with us 24-0 up at half time and North coming back strong in the 2nd half. Our discipline and error count was unacceptable but fair play to North, they didn’t let their heads drop and threw everything at us. They played field position well and took their chances. If they play like that every week they’ll soon pull away from the bottom. Still, I’ll take a BP away win however we can get it.

Bramley Phoenix v Barnsley - unfortunate but not surprising. Bramley +7/HWO

North Ribblesdale v Leeds Corinthians - if Ribb play like they did against us last week they should have enough to get the win. Corinthians on a bus trip should be well up for it though, hope their ankle monitors have got the range to allow them all the way to Settle. Ribb -7

Northallerton v Harrogate Pythons - regardless of form I’m expecting North to have a strong side out at home and make this a difficult game. Will have to stock up on truffles and foie gras before we leave though, I hear they don’t even have a Waitrose in Northallerton. Plebs. Always back yourselves. Pythons +7

Ripon v Baildon - Ripon are very hit and miss so who knows whether they’ll perform here. Baildon are the more polished side and will capitalise on any errors made. Baildon -7

Wath-upon-Dearne v Wheatley Hills - though they haven’t got a great record, every Wheatley Hills game has been within 6 points either way. Wath could be the ones to change this though they’ll be forced to work bloody hard for it. Wath +7

Wensleydale v Yarnbury - don’t think Yarnbury will enjoy a bumpy hill after their green carpet. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Dale go the season unbeaten at home. Wensleydale +7

A real battle against North Ribb today. A game where both sides threw everything at each other and played some really good rugby in the process. Certainly neither side left anything out there on the pitch and Ribb will probably be disappointed not to have come away with at least a losing bonus point, we were just more clinical when we were in the opposition 22. Hope Ribb enjoyed their day out on the train though and that those who had the pre-match lunch were well looked after, look forward to the return fixture!
