Some interesting games this weekend, its seems that a few markers could be put down..

Salem Vs Rochdale - Expect Salem to get a BP win here. Rochdale are a very good side but not the biggest.. Salem will bully them on their small pitch.

Donny Vs Weth - Big game for both sides!! Donny looking to get off the foot of the table & Weth are trying to look up rather than down. Tight game that could be settled by a single try or Penalty - Wetherby (just)

Town Vs Ol Crocs - Town are good at home, move the ball well and I feel that they will have too much for Crocs - Town BP Win

Brods Vs Morley - The Brods I watched last week are great with the ball in hand but weren't so strong defensively. Im going with a tight game but Morley to come away with the W.

Ponte Vs Scarbs - Scarboroughs run to come to and end here, Ponte are no easy team to play anywhere nevermind at home. Ponte to win by a few.

M&N Vs Goole - Another tough one to call.. Malton seemed to have found their form but Goole are also playing well by all accounts. Either way its a big game for both sides. Home advantage to take M&N to the W.

Made it down to Wetherby game today.

Very entertaining game and free flowing rugby from both sides. A great advert for the league. Brods I was told had a few missing but held their own and at one point the game could have gone either way.

For Wetherby, that was the best I’ve seen them this year. Played some slick rugby in spells and their pack looked very handy. The Weth fullback had a golden boot today, I don’t think he missed one.

Shaping up to be an interesting 2nd half of the season. Well done to all winning sides today.

Brad Salem v Old Crocs – Salem much bigger side, relatively straight forward BP win.

Donny P v Rochdale – First time I saw Rochdale on Saturday and wow they are quick. Rochdale BP win.

Old Brods v Moortown – Brods to take this one, but a close game!

Ponte v Goole – Ponte with ease, BP win.

Wetherby v Scarborough – Scarborough are flying at the moment, although Wetherby lost at the weekend, I’ve not seen them throw the ball around like that this season. Home Win

M&N v Morley – Morley to take this one, tough afternoon for them but eventually get the BP win.

Goole v Donny P - Goole to kick on and get their season going.

Morley v Brad Salem - Salem Win, but it won’t be easy. Expect a tough game.

Old Crocs v Ponte - Ponte BP win, size and physicality will earn them a comfortable win.

Rochdale v Wetherby. On paper and form Rochdale W. Expect Wetherby to utilise their pack and scrum to try turn it into a dog fight.

Scarborough v Brods - Scarbs Win, tough place to travel and their tails are up.

Moortown v M&N - Moortown BP win, their backs are superior to M&N.

Scarborough the deserved winners today in what was a fabulous display of Yorkshire rugby.

Goole getting closer and closer to a decent result.  Surely an upset on the cards soon?

What’s happening to moortown? Have the £££ dried up or are Salem just overspending?

It absolutely baffles me why some of the lads are at Bradford salem….

How can one lad go from playing 24 games in the 2024 super league season for Huddersfield Giants to playing for Bradford Salem at level 6…..

SEBASTINE IKAHIHIFO

If they get promoted this year I think it’s fair to say it’s pretty obvious why given the amount of “appearances” they have in the NRL and Super League.

As one of their lads said today and I quote “We don’t pay players” must have been the most comical thing to have happened today at Salem.

What kind of club are they going to have once these players stop playing…

Personally I feel sorry for the lads that are from Bradford Salem and try push for their 1st XV spot just to be pushed a side for a professional rugby league player.

Everyone has their own views and each to their own but I suppose money talks especially when the club is in ALOT of debt.

I heard it was £200-500 a game.. But again could be rumours : )

Wetherby made hard work of it today vs a determined Goole outfit. The flow of the game was spoiled by a high penalty count from both sides.

Wetherby scrum will take some beating & once their backs start to click I think they have a lot of potential to cause some upsets.

Goole showed flashes of what they can do, good in the lineout & not the easiest to put away.

Bradford $alem v Moortown – Salem BP win, small pitch favours their big boys and a tough side to turnover anywhere never mind at home.

Doncaster P v Old Crocs – Tough one to call given the home advantage to Donny, but I feel Crocs will come away with a narrow win.

Pontefract v Morley – Ponte to take this one, but it won't be easy. Morley will hang in their until the end.

Scarbs v Rochdale – Game of the day - Be a real cracker, expect it to be high scoring and a great advert for the league. Rochdale win "just".

Wetherby v Goole – Wetherby is a tough place to go, they usually have a big home following but Goole will be targeting this game to get their season up and running. - Close game, Wetherby win.

O Brods v Malton - Brods BP home win, although farming season is coming to an end soon.. so I expect Malton to have a resurgence is on the horizon.

Agree & then Crocs penalty instead of kick off after a Wetherby try? First time I’ve seen that before! Think the referee handled the game ok I will add.

Some interesting results, didn’t see Town beating Ponte or Malton running $alem as close as they did.

I was at Crocs vs Wetherby, 3 red cards & 2 yellows. Very tense game, Wetherby’s scrum was strong as always and at one point had 4 scrum penalties in a row??

Expect both teams to be mid table come end of the season but will cause some upsets along the way.

Goole v Scarborough - Scarborough by a few, however Goole need to start picking some points up!

Moortown v Pontefract- Ponte for a BP Win, too strong and physical for Moortown.

Morley v Doncaster Phoenix- Home win, Morley a well rounded side with a strong scrum.

Old Crossleyans v Wetherby- 2 teams who have only played “the stronger” teams in the league. Could go either way - Draw

Rochdale v Old Brodleians- Game of the day, backing Rochdale and their speedy back line.

Malton and Norton v Bradford Salem- Salem will be too big and strong for Malton. Comfortable away win.

Good luck to all!!

All fair points...

But if the cash isn't there then the "family" aspect goes out the window.

Its great to see clubs like Salem go up the leagues but its only short term success and building for the now Vs the future.

When the money tap stops so does the success look what happened with their neighbours at Bees..

Also your point around 3rd of the Salem team being junior grads is a muted point as I would probably see that as one of the lowest in the league :)

Again, good to see clubs like Salem doing well but I worry about their long term sustainability.

Indeed the same old discussion friend, we are pretty lucky to have these fine men want to join our small club.

ABR in answer to your second question, who knows. We'll all have to wait and see. I'm not close enough to the inner workings.  But it appears you may know more than I.

Wouldn't that be a spectacle?

But lets look at it in a different light, why can't they join the club because they love playing grassroots.

Why can't they join because its the first time their families have felt like a part of a family in years?

Why can't they join because the guys they play with actually keep them grounded and remind them why they actually started playing in the first place?

Sometimes we forget what our great game can do for others.

You may think what I'm saying is utter rubbish, but heyho.

A little context may help - over half the squad have either 50 or 100 Salem 1st team caps and from memory a 3rd of this squad Salem junior graduates.

Two parting thoughts

1 - The game is bigger than any one man.

2 - And watch out for the prop or flanker who will sidestep the winger and chip over the fullback.

I hate to say it, but I called all results correct 👀 .

Again I went to watch Wetherby vs Moortown (Leeds local) Wetherby pack played them off the park.. dare I even say bullied them. Town are usually strong at home and I was little disappointed with them today.

Salem and Rochdale stay strong, seem like the teams to beat. Interesting league shaping up..

Predictions for this weekend?

Salem Vs Ponte (Game of the day)
Tough place to go is Salem, small pitch and suits them well. That said, Ponte will love the physicality and can see this being a close game. If Salem have their 15 playing & fit I think he could be the difference - Salem W

Goole Vs Old Brods - Old Brods to continue their impressive start vs a struggling Goole side. Old Brods W

Moortown Vs Wetherby - Tough one to call, I watched Wetherby last week and they impressed me in the 2nd half. But you can never write off town at home (or anywhere). I think Weth pack might "just" get them over the line - Wetherby W

Morley Vs Scarbs - Another tricky one, both teams have started relatively well but I can't look past Morley at home. Morley W

Old Crocs V Rochdale - Seen little of the two sides, so not in a position to say too much. But from what I hear Rochdale are the team to beat. - Rochdale W

Malton Vs Donny P - Malton looked really off colour and a lot smaller than usual last week.. That being said, the forecast of rain might mean more of the farmer boys are available. Two early season strugglers, controversial - Draw

Best of luck to all, some cracking games!

Some interesting results this weekend and some close games!

I managed to catch an hour of the Malton vs Wetherby which saw 2 yellow cards in the first 15 minutes for Wetherby! Is this now something we need to get used to?

That being said, Malton who I believe are missing a few.. did what they could in the first half but Weth put 30+ unanswered points on them in the 2nd half and almost breezed to 5 points.

Looking at the other results it looks like Salem & Rochdale are the teams to beat..
