I've just been informed (rightly or wrongly) that the council have given permission for the anthem to play. It didn't come from an official source so I wouldn't (and i'm not) taking it as gospel.

That's a shame. I was looking forward to watching Driffield hand out another spanking like we got at the weekend.  :(

Living just "over the water" in Newby I can support all posts about the Scalby NIMBY's. Providing it doesn't happen right on their doorstep they don't give a hoot, but put it nearby and there's petitions, banners, posters, locals talking on street corners. It's laughable, this latest twist concening Mr Afford is as unsurprising as it is ridiculous. I don't go along with the "do it anyway" brigade as it may harm any chances at the public forum, though I do wholeheartedly support a big, loud brass band, playing before, during half time and after the game. Maybe even a procession from the open air theatre up to the club, meandering through Scalby perhaps?

We were well and truly humiliated by a much much better Driffield side today. We weren't even second best in a two team game.  :(
Driffield superior in every department, good luck in NE1 and do Yorkshire proud.

I concur BRB. The York 8 looked particularly handy with ball in hand. York pack was first to the breakdown all day and their hooker actually hooked well and secured the ball at many of Scarborough's scrums. With a better kicking display the score would/could have been a bigger winning margin. Roll on Driff next week.

NB-ite: A good pack but absolutely nothing behind the no8, I've very rarely seen a set of 3/4s with so little ambition.

Did you see the same game as me - The Wath No.9 was the best player on the pitch!
A class, well experienced scrum-half, one of the best I've seen all season! Probably agree about the rest of the Wath 3's though.

Best player on the pitch? Really? I thought he was as one dimensional as Wath's performance to be honest. That said, he did perform his function without fault. Collect the ball from ruck/scrum and give it to the first forward that appeared on his shoulder. Job done.
I'd actually be hard pressed to name one stand out player from the game so although i disagree with you i couldn't offer an alternative.

On the dog situation i was at Malton a couple of years ago and had taken my dog with me. (not something i usually do) I was behind the in goal area well away from the playing surface and was told by a club member that dogs weren't allowed on the grass. Fair comment thought i, but when i got back to the concrete i looked across to the stand and saw several dogs in there. I still to this day do not know how they got there if they're not allowed across the grass!

Back to the point of the thread, coud all spectators at level 7 and above be presented with a pair of spectacles on entry to the ground? These would have a small screen that show a score and a time clock in the top left hand corner like on the tv. Then when time's officially up the clock would turn red and we'd all know. I think it's a goer.

Scarborough are so infuriating. For ten minutes they can be sublime (not today though) but then the next twenty they'll be totally inept and unable to even perform the basics.
Today i'm not sure either side deserved the victory but with the amount of penalties given away right infront of the posts N Ribb would really have struggled to lose it. Well done Ribb, let's hope Scarborough can exorcise the demons before the next game.

No snow here Your Lordship. The Almighty smiles on the righteous.  ;D

Either that or even snow won't settle where the codheads live.  :D

Disappointed with the spectacle itself but happy with the result, obviously. I thought right from kick off that Scarborough were head and shoulders above their neighbours in every position. There were way too many mistakes from both sides but the try really was a piece of class. A fair result I think, Mr Muru must be ruing his decision to come out of retirement as he really did look off the pace throughout. One other thing I noticed was the niggle that the Brid lads turned to when things so obviously weren't going right for them. Several heated moments and one very nasty looking knee drop at a ruck that went unnoticed.

Lucky heather? Or perhaps we could ask them to tarmac the overflow carpark? Hmm, second thoughts maybe not.

I know it's easy to say after the event but i had a feeling about today. I even said to a total stranger in the supermarket queue that they'd win. Mind you, you should have seen the look of incredulity i got in return. lol.
Where are you now missus? I told you so.
Superb performance, they could so easily have capitulated after those 2 quick tries, well done for sticking to your game plan and ruining the All Blacks today.
Roll on the 6 nations now.

A fair enough difference in how we saw the game B29 but didn't you find the tempo way too slow in the first half? Your point about playing with heads up is a valid one, it's just i was concerned that we were too happy to play at Knottingley's pace rather than our usual up tempo game during that first half.

Thanks YE for bringing me back down from my giddiness. However, I merely hoped we'd turned a corner and not that we'd stopped losing ever again.  ;)

Yes, there are tough games coming (aren't there always?) but if we can get back to the level of our early performances then those teams will respect us as much as we respect them and we'll go into each game with confidence and not trepidation.

Excellent performance from Scarborough today. Too good for Knottingly who looked a bit lost but kept going to the end. Scarborough played like a team with a plan, communicated well and had some great passages of inter-passing. They did the graft early on and reaped the rewards later. Credit to JL and his coaches - their influence is there for all to see.
Sadly the referee was poor with a number of bad decisions not helped by the fact his positioning was dire and his ability to keep up with the game when played at pace was disturbing, in fact I think I was closer to most of the breakdowns standing on the balcony than he was.
Nice mullet on display in the coaching area.

Got to agree with you with regard to the ref's performance. Not sure he's up to the level of the game but I don't think it made too much difference.
Where I have to disagree is with Scarborough's supposed excellence. I thought we barely made it out of second gear in the first half and just about touched third in the second. There were one or to passages of great passing and running but apart from that we looked slow and laboured. That's not to take anything away from the team's efforts, we never stopped trying and it did pay off. Team spirit and the desire to work for each other with gritted teeth got us to a point where the tries started to rain in once again. I applaud the team for that spirit and hope that the corner is turned.
