Bit embarrassing isn't it Yarnbury...?

No

All this libulous talk really has got out of hand and all as a result of a Ribblesdale farmer casting his rod in the hope to land a new pair of wellies...instead he seems to have caught a whopper. Gentlemen, to set the record straight, firstly we have precisely two anglers who are members of the club, neither are currently involved with the 1st team...if they did go on a stag do together the bar-stewards didn't invite the rest of us! In all honestly though, if they had suggested a sea fishing trip to Whitby I can't imagine many of us jumping at the opportunity to go with them. Secondly, the 'non-believers' amongst you who seem to be enjoying the ride on the bandwagon. The rain for the entire week running up to the Saturday had been terrible in Leeds, the Saturday morning was no different despite what Krisleeds (an explayer of Yarnbury, scorned as he was dropped from the 4th team some time ago) thought he saw on his way past the pitch en route to buy his second portion of fish and chips at 11:30am. Admittedly our pitch does not weather the weather as well as some in Yorkshire. Investment is being made to rectify our drainage issues in the coming close season. Last summers project was to improve the training facilities and the club house - both of which were completed, give us chance to get the drainage! I can't comment on the game today as I wasn't there, hard luck to North Rib, see you at your place.

Without being at the game it's hard for me to offer my own opinion on the Yarnbury v York result. But, having talked to a few of the lads involved, from a Yarnbury perspective it was a much improved performance, sparked by a shake up in the back line with a few young 2nd team players being given an opportunity to make their mark, and the return of a coiuple of key players from injury. With a week off and a couple more returning from injury, hopefully we can start picking up a few points!

On a side note, Saturday marked a great occasion with 4 teams from both clubs lining up agaisnt each other, the results were as follows:

Yarnbury 1st v York 1st: 39 - 26
York 2nd v Yarnbury 2nd: 39 - 38
Yarnbury 3rd v York 3rd: 45 - 10
York 4th v Yarbury 4th:  12 - 60

Just looking at our Twickenham photo from May 2013...of the 23 players involved that day, only 6 will be turning out at Scarborough today! I for one can't wait for holiday/wedding/injury and World Cup season to be done with!

Yarnbury had 12/18 home grown players against Brid, but were without an entire starting back row 12, 13 and 11 due to injury and honeymooning....all of whom would be classed as home grown.

RH see above for your summary.

SO, to go back to the original discussion point I was attempting to raise. Do people agree, that this season we have a handful of clubs willing to splash the cash in a bid for promotion, rather than having just one big boy in the playground? It seems that certain clubs have targeted this season as an opportunity to progress and have decided to dig deep. Is this possibly due to the absence of $heonix? We all know Salem, Bees, Malton, York and Scarborough are happy to go shopping but this season you can throw Brid, Brods and Hull into the mix. Like I said it does make for a very interesting season, BUT they can’t all be promoted and this MAY be a stretch to far for some of them?

Being from one of the remaining minows or ‘badly run clubs’ (with 5 senior teams and a thriving junior section). I was looking for comment from members of the other ‘minows’ to see if they agree with my assessment and will look to target the games against each other to finish the season as ‘the best of the rest’?

RH, which club are you from? I'm a Yarnbury player, and believe it or not I'm not bitter! We had a tough day at the office yesterday against a much strengthen Brid side who fielded no fewer than 5 imports...we can only hope that when the winter kicks in the Southern Hemesphere boys won't fancy it as much!

Reborn Bob, who are you referring to? If the results are anything to go by, it does seem that the summer break has been kind to Hullensians?

My post was an attempt to start a discussion about the fact that this season, more than others previously, rather than having one team $ma$hing everyone, we have two competions occurring within one league and that is intruiging. Possibly distinguishing the two as 'proper clubs' and 'investors' was unfair, so we will go with 'amature' and 'semi-pro'. The split of teams I went for is based on nothing but hearsay and conversation with a few learned friends so I apologise if I've put your club in the wrong league.

We have a distinct split in the league this season...between those clubs who have either 'invested' in Southern Hemisphere talent and/or raided their neighbouring clubs, the allure of £100 a game being to hard to resist for the mercenaries of the Yorkshire leagues.

League A (proper clubs)
Yarnbury
Selby
Old Crocs
York
North Rib
Hullensians
West Park

League B (the investors)
Bridlington
Scarborough
Bees
Salem
Malton and Norton
Heath
Old Brods

It does make for some interesting battles, but not everyone can go up or go down. I just hope for the sake of the big spenders that missing out on promotion and settling for mid table obscurity isn't going to stretch the club  to far for seasons to come.

Not at all, 'working class' would insinuate they have jobs. Look every club has the odd one or two undesirables who shout 'smash him', 'end him' or 'he doesn't want it, look at him' who laugh and jeer when their team score rather than cheer. Salem just seem to have rounded up a small herd to stand on their touch lines.

And what a treat it was to be in attendance at Bradford this evening. The home supporters really do welcome the opposition with open arms...village idiot doesn't quite do some of the more 'vocal' club members justice. I don't know where the pharsical figure of '£3,500' usually made behind the bar on a Saturday came from in the local rag, no away team or their supporters are going to want spend any more time at the clubhouse than necessary.

Hope Yorkshire 1 lives up to expectations and proves the match fees for your mercenaries proves worth it. Not many clubs are going to enjoy coming to your place, that's for certain.

Best pitch - Scabs. The money has been spent well.
Worst pitch - Old Brods. We played there at the weekend, the grass was a little sparse to say the least. I dread to think what it's like in the height of winter...don't even get me started on the slope.
Best after match hospitality - Bridlington: Good atmosphere, good beer, after match awards were well received!
Worst after match hospitality - Scabs: Clubhouse lacked atmosphere possibly due to its poor lay out. It's hard to ignore the air of arrogance around the place.
Best food - It’s a tossup between the pie at Malton and the Curry at Brid
Worst food - The cold left over buffet didn't exactly hit the spot on a freezing January evening at Scabs
Best team to play and the reason - Malton at their place put in the most complete performance we have had to face this season. Their fit, well drilled and mobile pack provided a great platform for their SAFAs, who all seemed to be on song that day. They dispatched us 36-24 when we were at our peak - It must have been a good watch for the neutral.
Worst team to play and the reason - Wath, a series of penalties against us carried them down the field at their place only for it to end in a last minute try - A game we should have put to bed in the first half.
Best game of your season - We put in a number of great performances at home before the turn of the year, the wins against Scabs and Middlesbrough stood out. Away our 20-20 draw with York was a great game (we should've won).
Best Forward played against - Peacey Donny's 8
Best Back played against - Deacon Donny's 15 or the Malton Winger who scored 4 against us.
Dirtiest player - Ponte bald No.8
