Yorkshire 1 / WIKIRUGBYLEAKS RESEARCH - Quality Street Gang
« on: March 02, 2011, 11:58:46 AM »
From achieves, memories and tip offs.

http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/yorkrufc/photos/quality-street-gang-photos-8679.html

They were a very rowdy, somewhat cocky, 'upper crust' bunch. They definately looked down on Y.1 and felt it was only a temporary one season thing at the time.
On the other hand, they were big supporters of York and took their 7's team to tournaments to different parts of the globe.
At the time they - York - had been heading for National rugby. For some reason thigs stalled... and down they came.

QSG - QUALITY STREET GANG

The QSG was formed on the 9th December 1991 at the White House, Bishopthorpe, York. Founding members were Richard Wood, Hugh Bowman, Nigel Elliot, John Lofthouse and Ricky Richardson.

The aim was for a group of ex players to try and raise some much needed funds to help and support York RUFC both spiritually and financially in the modern professional era, and to try and attain national rugby whilst have a good time into the bargain.

York RUFC climbed the leagues and actually finished third in North One in 1995 only two places off National Rugby.

Unfortunately since then things have not gone so well for the club but we are still proud to be part of York RUFC.

From the beginning certain members were very keen that the QSG had its own tie and suggested a navy blue tie with a think discreet purple stripe. Very tasteful, unfortunately for the members the now newly appointed chairman had other ideas. He purchased a box of Quality Street, took the colours off it and incorporated them with the green, black and white of York RUFC. The symbolism being that even though the QSG is an entity of its own it is first and foremost part of York RUFC.
The tie had an unexpected effect instead of being the centre of derision some people actually liked it and the colours were certainly noticeable. It was at this time that the club ran a Presidents XV v The Unicorns game, in which Gavin and Scott Hastings both played, they were immediately awarded honorary membership and presented with their ties. Scott suggested we enter a team in the HK10's as the colours would go down really well! We duly entered a team in 1994 and even though Scott couldn't play Gavin did and captained, not bad! British lions captain in New Zealand 1993, QSG captain in Hong Kong 1994. It doesn't get any better than that!
This then lead to other tours to Muscat in Oman, Hong Kong and Dubai and we were fortunate to have some really good players play for us more to the point they were also really top men into the bargain and we were delighted to have them represent us.

The reason we have not been on more tours is as usual a difficulty in raising sponsorship which is a complete mystery considering the celebrities that have played for us and remain associated with us.

Below is a list of Honorary QSG Members & Associates...

Yorkshire 1 / Wikirugbyleaks York update - two Y1's in the frame
« on: February 25, 2011, 08:12:49 AM »
The battle is on between C2N and Chris "the gob" Crebe for the highly paid role of coach/dor at York. Both have been approached with a "life changing" salary with a brief to get York into the national league "where we belong"...

Who will be saying bye bye this week????

Yorkshire 1 / Wiklirugbyleaks Exclusive - Crisis deepens at York
« on: February 24, 2011, 10:51:51 AM »
No Support for Coach

As far back as July/pre-season, Micky 'salesman' Negri was fishing for a new coach to replace Sean at the end of this season (his plan was to bleed them in slowly then take the rug from under him) - he had no faith in him from the start it would seem, and expressed this quite clearly and that a mistake had been made in letting him have so much control.

He also claimed that the only reason he was given the role was lack of interest from anyone else and also because someone in the committee had made him a promise that he would be the head coach as a reward for his long service to the club - i.e. they felt sorry for him.

Will Yorks lofty ambitions be knocked due to infighting and unrealistic expectations??

Next instalment coming up soon...

Yorkshire 1 / Is this week Maltons last real challenge?

I think this is tipping point week for Tonga, if they win they will push on and win the league with ease. Should they lose, it could be a very nervous few weeks for them.....

Yorkshire 1 / G4 pitch in Y1?
« on: February 24, 2011, 08:08:07 AM »
With artificial pitches getting better (supposedly) and after two really bad winters is a G3 or G4 a realistic possibility at a Y1 club?

Or would the £500,000 be better spent on improving grass pitches??

Yorkshire 1 / 'Next' Seasons winners of Y1.... ???
« on: February 21, 2011, 07:00:02 PM »
I know, I know its miles off but that's what makes it interesting...

Taking many things into account i.e.

1. Who you think will leave and join the league..
2. Who will recruit...
3. Who will lose players...
4. Who will want promotion...

Who do you think will be the eventual winners next season?? We can bring this thread back in 14 months time and see who the visionary is!

793
I'll choose Sheffield. Because its a long way to go down a boring motorway... (I live in Durham...)

Yorkshire 1 / End of season Y1 7's
« on: February 19, 2011, 08:16:50 PM »
I made it down to Silver Royd for the first time. Great game considering conditions. Scarborough very powerful up front, malt played with pace when they could. Scarborough mistake led to malton victory. Ill give more thoughts tomorrow but will make 2 points now.

1. Malton officials went out of their way before the match to say how good the pitch was even though it was wet. This wasn't said after they had won but before hand.
2. Malton were very very gracious in victory. The players, officials and supporters were a credit to their club.

Lastly, No9 (playing 10) took the banter very well, good on him.

hey ho.... almost..
