Yorkshire 1 / Selby
« on: January 23, 2011, 08:03:53 AM »
Having played hosts to Selby yesterday it is very sad to see the effect the accident that Shaun Austerfield suffered over Christmas has had on their squad and  management. Many of them clearly still have minds elsewhere and it must be so difficult for them to concentrate on rugby.

I truly hope that they will be able to overcome the sadness that they all feel, perhaps when Shaun is well enough to be part of their club life again then it will make things easier for him and lift everyone’s spirits.

I, more than many, enjoy the banter and wind up’s that are part of Yorkshire rugby but we are at heart a close community and its not nice to see one of your own in distress.

Again, we wish our very best to Shaun and hope he is able to play an active part in rugby union in some capacity in the future as his recovery continues.

Yorkshire 1 / All not well at Malton, the cracks appear
« on: January 16, 2011, 07:40:13 PM »
A little bird tells me that all is not well at Tonga, just as they were planning their victory tour around the fields on a tractor……

Creber (their influential Aussie Fly Half) out for a number of weeks…..
Maki the centre/backrow has had a fallout and has started to train at Hull again (was put in the 2nds on Sat)
Piawi and Newitt will both be gone next season…..

Now we’ll see if my prediction, so oft ridiculed, that Tonga won’t finish top of league indeed is an inspired piece of Banditism!!

Yorkshire 1 / Referee feedback form
« on: January 16, 2011, 03:59:33 PM »
Some years ago it was normal practice for teams to fill in a card after each match to give feedback on the referees performance. This is still in practice in some parts of the country and it is a great system. Its time to re-introduce it into the Yorkshires Leagues. Clearly there will be some inane comments entered onto the card due to a team losing or any of the usual drivel but someone with a brain should be able to glance through all the cards each week and look for common themes and trends.

For example if several clubs say that Ref X is overweight and cant keep up with play then there is obviously an issue.........

Surely until there is some form of co-ordinated collation of referees performance (and not just from the assessors, who lets be honest are normally wheeled into the ground in a chair and call anyone under 75 "young man"), then we cant hope to increase the standard.

Yorkshire 1 / Bridlington Brain of Britain at it again
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:09:29 PM »
Brid's coach Kieran Lawry has been telling the locals in the Free Press about how advanced they are because not only do they film match BUT they also (here's the amazing bit) WATCH THE VIDEO!! What incredible innovation…… no wonder they are light years ahead of the rest of the rugby playing nations. Here’s a little extract… (with my personal favourite in bold!)

"“The coaching team that we have at the club then analyse the DVD, looking at various areas of the match to develop the coaching plan and training sessions for the weeks ahead, allowing us to rectify any mistakes and highlighting any positives and negatives.

“Overall we find the facility extremely handy in helping us develop the team and the individual players. The big difference is that although a lot of teams now video their matches very few actually do anything productive with the videos and certainly none at this level provide the professional in-depth analysis that we provide here at Brid."

Dont you just love him......

This post has been approved by Yorkshire Rugby’s in house team of litigation lawyers - they have informed me that although the Brid chairman might have a high velocity dummy spit AGAIN, unfortunately there is sweet FA he can do about it!

« on: December 21, 2010, 09:36:41 AM »
Imagine my delight to see that someone has registered under the name Backrowbandits Boyfriend. I should say that Julian will get most jealous as I’m sure its not him who has taken to cyber banter……

All this talk of lay-bys and flashing lights a couple of weeks ago by Ginga Ninga and now he had mysteriously disappeared, maybe he had returned as my lover????

Yorkshire 1 / Two Y1 clubs in funding crisis.
« on: December 19, 2010, 07:23:16 AM »
I have it on good authority that two separate clubs over the last month have appealed to the RFU for emergency funding due to solvency issues. I genuinely don't know which clubs they are other than I was told they were "mid sized".

I obviously know its not Scarborough, as Brid are happy to point out in their local paper every week one thing we don't lack is cash......... So who is it??

Anyone any ideas? ???

Yorkshire 1 / Erm..... I'd like a cut please..
« on: December 17, 2010, 03:51:12 PM »
Now lets get a couple of things straight from the outset Bottyburper:

1. I think i can claim the idea for this venture but as you do all the work i'll settle for 20% of all future commercial revenues..
2. Anyone from Brid, before being accepted, must state clearly that Scarborough is a far greater club in every aspect and that the Brid chairman acted like a big girls blouse last night....

other than that: ITS GREAT TO BE BACK!!
