Yorkshire 1 / Week 12 Predictions & Chat
« on: December 03, 2024, 04:39:40 AM »
Into the 2nd half of the season we go! Can Ribb maintain their form or will Pock, Keighley and Hullensians be able to stay in the hunt for automatic promotion? Can Old Rish find some wins to scrap their way off the bottom?

For me there is a clear top 4 teams then a middle 4 and bottom 4 in terms of standards so far. I would say the bottom 2 groups are closer together than the top 2 though someone like Beverley could challenge the top 4 if they keep up their form into the 2nd half of the season, like Pock did last year. At the top Ribb look well set, especially having already played Pock and Keighley away. I think West Leeds and Wensleydale will have enough to pull away from the relegation zone leaving a scrap between Old Rish, Brid and Leos to avoid the bottom 2 (though we know relegation is never guaranteed).

Some more tasty match ups on the way this week:

Beverley v North Ribblesdale
Bridlington v Keighley
Leodiensians v Hullensians
Old Rishworthians v Harrogate Pythons
Wensleydale v Wath upon Dearne
West Leeds v Pocklington

PS. There only seems to be representatives from 4 of this leagues clubs posting on here at the moment. If you are reading but not commenting, from any club in any league, get involved, let’s get some discourse and discussion flowing.

I'm afraid I don't agree with these sort of witch hunt groups.

We get too hung up on what people are paid. We have no idea what challenges were faced behind the scenes. What if it turns out his actions saved/made an extra £10m for the RFU - would £338k seem so bad then?

I can see why it is emotive but without all the facts it's difficult to have anything but an arbitrary viewpoint.

Do you think it's acceptable to make a £350k bonus when you are making 40 people redundant and operating a £40m loss? He's also seen a base salary increase of 72% over the last 5 years, all the time making losses and handing out redundancies.

Is Dinno’s impressive win against a plucky Northallerton a League record ?

I’m sure Keighley put 100 up twice in a season a few years ago, I remember one was against Ripon but couldn’t tell you who else or what the exact scores were.

League winners before the half way mark!

Maybe slightly premature but they’re odds on at the moment, especially having played Keighley and Pock away already.

Beverley v West Leeds - West Leeds managing to pull out some crucial wins against the teams around them at the bottom but Beverley will be too strong for them. They're 5 from 6 after losing their opening 4 so will be very confident heading into the 2nd half of the season. Not likely to threaten the top 4 I think but certainly a contender to be best of the rest. Beverley +7

Bridlington v Hullensians - must win for Ensians here to keep in touch with the top 2. I think they'll have far too much for Bridlington though and pull away in the 2nd half for a BP win. Hullensians +7

Harrogate Pythons v Keighley - 2 games last season that were a lot more competitive than the scoreline suggested. Keighley were a lot more clinical than us though so we'll have to convert our chances and tighten up our discipline if we want to finish the 1st half of the season with more wins than losses. Always back yourselves though. Pythons +7

North Ribblesdale v Wensleydale - should be a tasty Dale derby. Wensleydale will hold their own in the pack but Ribb will take them apart in the backline for a comfortable BP win. Ribb +7

Pocklington v Old Rishworthians - Old Rish set to enter the half way point at the bottom of the table, not sure too many would have predicted that following a fairly decent finish to last season. Pock to pile on the misery here with a big win. Pock +7

Wath upon Dearne v Leodiensian - given Wath's home record and Leos struggles so far I think this will be a fairly routine home win. Wath +7

Hullensians 45 - 13 Harrogate Pythons
Keighley 46 - 18 Wath Upon Dearne
Leodiensian 10 - 46 Pocklington
Old Rishworthian 14 - 57 North Ribblesdale
Wensleydale 20 - 39 Beverley
West Leeds 63 - 24 Bridlington

Pythons led 13-12 at half time but Hullensians found another gear and kicked into overdrive in the 2nd half.

What were you doing in the home dressing room!!!!

Went to get our shirts back from the 2 gents who kindly stepped in for us when we suffered injuries.

Sr Ruckers,
its nothing in the water, its the Tonic and the Gin in the dressing room after the matches that makes Ribb (at the moment) a very convivial place to play at. As Locked out says the views are spectacular, but as anyone in the building industry knows "you cannot buy a view". As to national league players only really the coach was a regular at that level and he was a Ribb lad to begin with. Others who have joined were squad players who wanted to play games every week (cant blame anyone for that) in competitive games. Just like the several lads who went to Keighley three or four years ago and are still there enjoying their rugby.

When I was there last month with the 2's there was a massive tub full of crisps in the middle of the home changing room. That would probably be enough of an attraction for me!

Hullensians v Harrogate Pythons - this will be a tough place to visit for anyone this season. Ensians picked up a bit of momentum at the end of last season and seem to have kept that going with some new faces helping the cause. Going to have to be at our best here. Pythons +7

Keighley v Wath upon Dearne - think Keighley will bounce back here with a home win. It'll be a good battle from shirts 1-10 but I think Keighley's 11-15 will prove to be the difference. Keighley +7

Leodiensians v Pocklington - Leos capable of bloodying a nose here but think Pock will be too strong across the park. Pock +7

Old Rishworthian v North Ribblesdale - the pain just keeps coming for Old Rish. Comfortable away win. Ribb +7

Wensleydale v Beverley - fascinating match up. We know the damage Dale's pack can do, especially at home, so be interesting to see whether Beverley can front up and then take advantage out wide. I'm going for Beverley in a close one. Bev -7

West Leeds v Bridlington - given Brid's woes on the road this should be a comfortable and much needed home win. WL +7

Keighley v Wath upon Dearne
Leodiensians v Pocklington
Old Rishworthian v North Ribblesdale
Wensleydale v Beverley
West Leeds v Bridlington

Some good match ups on paper. Can Keighley bounce back after a tough couple of weeks? Is this a must win for West Leeds?

Couldn't tell you much about Pythons game yesterday as I was with the 2's and the 1's forgot the Veo camera. From what I hear it was quite a scrappy first half but Pythons got their act together in the 2nd half to come back from 18-13 down and get an important BP win. It's not looking good for Old Rish, with North Ribb and Pock next up they look set to be bottom at the half way point.
