Drove past Wensleydale today and they had Salem on the sponsors fixture board by the roadside. Take it that is in PPJ cup this week. I take it from that they intend playing you. One of only a few surviving games.
Good luck to both sides.
And in plain English??
Well, they informed us yesterday morning that they'd given us a Walkover and withdrawn.

He drove past Wensleydale and they were still advertising the game so he assumes it's still going ahead.

Obviously haven't updated the board yet. Shame that they’ve dropped out, they had a good cup run last year. Hopefully Wetherby or Wigton will actually give you a game in the next round.

Get out of jail for Pythons, bank goes another local Derby!

We've had nothing confirmed yet so nobody is counting any chickens. Ripon are very well placed to push for promotion next year anyway I would say.

Harrogate pulled out, assume pitch unfit still

Far from me to defend Harrogate but it has done nothing but leerdammer it down here all week. If their pitch wasn't playable last weekend it's definitely not playable this week.

We have given a walkover to Didsbury. An accumulation of injuries, which have decimated us for the last few weeks, and an unfortunately timed stag do left us with about 9 1st team players available and not many more from the 2nd team available to step up as they thought their season was finished.

Anyone fancy doing a bit of digging to find out what Sherbounes 5pts deduction is for (which they may or may not appeal)

Hearsay, but here goes:

Corsham were short a front row and offered to play a 0-0 friendly according to the game on principles, with the five points going to Sherbourne. Sherbourne refused to play, insisting on a HWO instead and have been deducted points. They appealed to their CB but were unsuccessful and are now appealing to the RFU. This process is expected to take a couple of weeks.

Top info. I assume that's the HWO showing on the results. Interesting one both in what the outcome is and also what the consequences are.

Thanks for sharing.

I think Beverley got a 5 point deduction for not travelling to Salem this season. Cited front row injuries but weren’t willing to play under game on principles. Looks like Sherborne are guilty of the same and now wait to see if the RFU will overturn a regional decision.

Agree both sides have had great seasons, but recent teams promoted in say last four years havent fared that well as Thornensians, Hemsworth, Corinthians (back in three) will confirm. Personally wish them both the best and with both teams playing records great this season they will hopefully be ok.

Out of the last 11 promoted teams as many finished in the top 4 as got relegated in the following season. I don’t think the step up from Y3 to Y2 is as big as Y2 to Y1 so I think both will be very competitive if they retain their squads, especially given how clear they both were of 3rd place.

« on: April 08, 2024, 02:11:25 PM »
Some interesting results this week to conclude the predictions league and final placings. This week's score in brackets:

1st   Ripit (13)      446 points
2nd  Gaters (23)   445 points
3rd   Flaggy (24)   435 points
4th   Locky (22)    395 points - consistent form with Ripon ending up 4th too LOL
5th   Docky (20)   380 points
6th   Vanny (26)   361 points
7th   Knucks (11)  359 points
8th   Magic (24)    348 points
9th   Kingy (13)    347 points
10th Hairy (21)     322 points
11th Banjy (0)      284 points
12th Ossie (18)    235 points
13th Laddie (13)   95 points

Congratulations to the top three for your success, even though some weeks have yielded unexpected outcomes. Thanks for everyone's support and contributions. I will circulate PPJ cup draws later this week for anyone interested in seeing that competition through. Apart from that, will look forward to setting up next season's predictions league and hope everyone has a happy and restful off-season.

Given I haven’t seen a single minute of Y2 this season I’ll take one point off top spot! Maybe it makes it easier being able to be completely objective. Thanks for organising. I know from running prediction comps back in Y3 how time consuming they can be.

Thanks for the balanced, proportionate and well-reasoned analysis of the game and well done for a resounding North Ribblesdale performance on Saturday that saw none of their three sides defeated - no mean feat! I suffered the indignity of watching my old club in the midlands lose a relegation battle. Back to this league and well done to Ribb and Wath, hopefully the RFU will allow the sensible two up two down principle to work at our level? Commiserations to Hemsworth and Corinthians - looks like Hems went down fighting?

Welcome back to Northallerton and Harrogate Pythons - looking forward to rekindling old rivalries and less travelling. Welcome too to Vandals and Bradford & Bingley.

We’re still waiting to hear whether we’re coming back down to Y2. There’s several level transfers to sort out in the leagues above plus Wetherby may yet be promoted depending on whether a points deduction against Sherborne gets upheld. All up in the air at the moment, I’ve heard rumours for anything from 3 down to 0 down from Y1 so who knows?

Regardless we enjoyed our time in Y1 and if we aren’t there next year then we look forward to renewing some old rivalries in Y2. Congratulations to Wath and North Ribb on their promotions, I think both could do well next year. North Ribb particularly, if stories are to be believed about the talent they have, could be pushing top 4.

I’ve been trying to follow it all as it looked for a little while like there might only be one going down from Y1 with all the reprieves and level transfers. Based on yesterday’s results that chance seemed to have gone. I’ve heard anything from 3 down to 0 down so who knows tbh.

Regardless of whether we stay in Y1 or drop back into Y2 everyone at Pythons is really proud of the season we’ve had. Stepping up from Y2 to Y1 seemed like a massive step compared to Y3 to Y2, though maybe that’s because we only spent one season in Y2. The physicality in this league along with how clinical teams has been the noticeable difference. I don’t feel like we were actually too far away from the teams above us and there’s a few games where we definitely feel like we were on the wrong side of the result but that’s what you get in this league for not putting away your chances. I think we’ve used 48 players in our first team this year and those constant injuries and unavailabilities have probably cost us more than anything. At the end of the day the league table doesn’t lie and we’ll have to wait and see how the RFU shake things out. As I said before, proud of all the lads who’ve pulled a shirt on this season, each player has certainly improved and that will give us something to build on next season, whichever league we’re in.

The two teams coming up could both easily avoid the drop next year I reckon. Wath are a bit like Wensleydale, big organised pack and very strong at home. I could see them finishing mid table. North Ribb could surprise a lot of people. They’ve recruited very well and now have a very good backline to go with their always excellent pack. Could see them pushing top 4 if they retain their talent. Best of luck to both of them. Congratulations to Salem on their well earned title along with Wetherby and Keighley on excellent campaigns.

Pitch inspection at knaresborough at 8.30!
Not sure of the quality of knaresboroughs pitch, but needing a pitch inspection must mean a chance of it not being playable there either.

If not playable then things start to look a little bleak for the sponsorship dinner.

What a way to end a league campaign for the potential champions.

Knaresborough's pitch was played on last week and looked in good conditions from the photos I saw. Lot's of rain this week with more forecast overnight, I would be confident of the game going ahead at Knaresborough though.

Noting that the Mighty Miggie Massive have capitulated and provided Woff with a 5 point HWO, will take Wath +7 as defining outcome. Congratulations to the new champions elect with 90 points now, wonder how long the crown will stay on for?

Talking of nice letters, I wonder if Flaggy might be enticed to ghost write the match report for Ripon v Ribb in my absence. I can help with a few pointers regarding neutral positioning, factual accuracy, brevity and conciseness.

Could have gone one of two ways this week for Corinthians following the tragic death of Tak. Obviously don’t feel like they can fulfil the fixture but hopefully they get to give him a send off down at the club at some point. Thoughts with all Tak’s family, friends and teammates.

Harrogate have said they have a 'local back up plan'. Given the rain we've had in Harrogate this week I can't see the pitches being playable at Rudding so be interested to see where they go. Yarnbury have a home game this week so won't be there again and the only other local club I can see without home fixtures is Knaresborough.

Would the reprieves have a trickle down effect as, currently, Hull Ionians and Doncaster are the best placed level 4 and 5 teams and, as Yorkshire teams, would be coming down into the North East 1 and 2 leagues? Also if Wetherby can get into the top 6 and get promoted plus 11th place in NE2 get the reprieve that would leave 13 teams in NE2, so would the 11th place reprieved team get the axe anyway? All as clear as mud.
