Much improved performance on the last 2 weeks from Pythons today and it’s frustrating to have come away with nothing at all. It was a very even match on the whole but the difference was that Pock took their chances when they got them and we didn’t. 3 or 4 spells of position in Pock’s 22 in the 1st half were wasted due to a combination of our errors and solid Pock defence. You have to convert field position into points though and we didn’t. Plenty of positives to take away though.

Couple of vital wins in there for a few teams and a full round of home wins. To me it looks like there’s going to be a clear top 3 this season (maybe 4 depending on Hullensians) and then below that could be a free for all.

Beverley v Keighley - obviously Keighley are very strong but they aren’t usually quite as strong away from home. Don’t know why but I fancy Beverley to nick this one in what I think will be a high scoring game. Beverley -7
Bridlington v Wath - Brid in free fall, Wath very confident in their own game. Wath another side who don’t always travel as well but Brid have struggled particularly against the strong packs so far so backing Wath +7
North Ribblesdale v Hullensians - game of the day. Ribb don’t seem to have any weaknesses and are adding new signings to make them even stronger. Hullensians will give them a good game and there could be plenty of tries each way but backing Ribb +7
Pocklington v Harrogate Pythons - Pock are very strong, particularly at home and we’ll have to cut out the errors if we want to compete this week. Always back yourself though. Pythons -7
Wensleydale v Old Rishworthian - Dale seems to have a few players back now and are traditionally very strong at home. Long away day for Ribb as well. Dale +7
West Leeds v Leodiensian - all 6 of West Leeds games so far have been against the top 6 so they’ll be targeting a win here, if they don’t get one then it could be panic stations. Leos certainly capable of winning here but I think WL will want it more and edge a close one. West Leeds -7
Bridlington v Wath - Brid in free fall, Wath very confident in their own game. Wath another side who don’t always travel as well but Brid have struggled particularly against the strong packs so far so backing Wath +7

Some interesting fixtures this week with an obvious standout for me in Ribb v Ensians. Bottom 6 all have potentially winnable fixtures as well so big weekend for some of the struggling clubs looking to start climbing the table.
Beverley v Keighley
Bridlington v Wath Upon Dearne
North Ribblesdale v Hullensians
Pocklington v Harrogate Pythons
Wensleydale v Old Rishworthian
West Leeds v Leodiensian

Regional Two (North & North East) / Re: League Results 12th October
« on: October 12, 2024, 09:50:42 PM »Thanks for posting the results. The England rugby web site is once again cream crackered, how do they think they can run the game when they can't even offer a basic results service.
Given up on it this season, Yorkshire RFU site much quicker.

« on: October 12, 2024, 09:47:26 PM »Have Pythons "plateaued", or will they find their feet and come back. Are North Ribb stoppable? Time will tell...
I was with the 2’s today so can’t comment too much. We were missing a lot and sounds like Ribb were excellent in all areas. They look well set for back to back promotions. We knew October was going to be a difficult month but the difference between this season and last is that we got some wins on the board early on.

Pythons vs North Ribb - availabilities testing our squad depth last week and this week but that’s all part and parcel of league rugby. Ribb were a very solid team when we played them in Y2 and seem to improved leaps and bounds since then so we’ll have to be at our very best to get a result. Pythons -7
Hullensians v Beverley - Bev resurgent last week and well worth their win so they’ll give Ensians a proper test. Ensians will be very strong at home though so back them -7
Leos v Wensleydale - Dale put up a decent fight at home last week but still can’t see them having enough for an away win. Leos +7
Old Rish v Bridlington - 2 sides short on results and confidence so both will be desperate for a win here. It’s a long away day for Brid though so going to back home advantage here. Rish -7
Wath v Pocklington - interesting one here. Pock look a real force and Wath settling in well at this level. Wath always strong at home and keep things very tight but gut says to back Pock here. Pock -7
Keighley v West Leeds - West Leeds will be desperate for their first win but it isn’t going to come here. Keighley +7

« on: October 11, 2024, 09:33:03 PM »Just Gaters to go now if ok, in the country and all happy to play this weekend.
Genuine concern about Hemsworth - any commentary from wider sources as to how they managed to put in such a powerful performance last weekend and jib this weekend?
Little bit of a hangover following the club dinner last night but all good apart from that. From what I hear Bramley’s squad was decimated due to a players wedding and their lineup was more of a 2nd team/colts so imagine that was a big factor. It’s a shame at Hemsworth, could only raise 18 at home last week and unfortunately can’t capitalise on a positive result and travel this week. They’ve posted an apology on their Facebook page and said they’re working on it, but players can’t be produced out of thin air. Fingers crossed for them.

Lots of egg on faces after the Hemsworth v Bramley result. Huge turnaround from Hemsworth, hopefully they can maintain this and there’s no more walkovers.

Other Senior Rugby / Re: Future Competition Structure
« on: October 04, 2024, 05:29:27 PM »Very little difference between the number of Walkovers in leagues that include Lower XVs vs those that don’t. So not much of an arguement with that one.
Bigger clubs stock piling players for the service of the first team squad is more of a relevant argument in our county. But having to apply to enter the leagues should limit this.
Everyone wants the same thing. Less travel, competitive league rugby and more revenue for clubs. Introducing second teams should give that in Yorkshire
Would I be right in thinking these bigger clubs who stockpile players and don't have a 2nd team wouldn't be eligible to enter anyway? For example Leeds Tykes or Otley. It seems a ridiculous concept to me that there are clubs in the National Leagues aren't even trying to put out 2nd teams.
