Other Senior Rugby / Re: Shirt Sponsorship
« on: October 01, 2024, 04:09:34 PM »
Thanks folks, my thoughts concur and having looked up the useful information on financing clubs on England Rugby website see nothing other than sponsors being in keeping with game and club values etc. We have a new marketing person who is a bit PC and I wanted to clear the way for another 60 year shirt sponsorship deal with Theakston's!

I think in this day and age to be able to get partnerships with big companies like Theakstons (yourselves) or Timothy Taylors (Keighley) you take the money and run! Unless Theakstons are sticking a crate of Old Peculier in the changing room whenever the under 12's win I don't see how anyone would have an issue with them as sponsors.

Beverley v Harrogate Pythons - Beverley haven't been far off in most of their games so will probably feel unlucky to be 0-4 so far. Despite our 100% start we're under no illusions this will be a really tough game and we'll have to raise our performance again. With one point separating the sides over two fixtures last season I can see another close one. Always back yourselves though, Pythons -7

Bridlington v Pocklington - Bridlington are going to need to sort their defence out if they want to pull themselves back up the table. Pocklington will be hurting after last week and I think they'll bounce back and take a close one. Pock -7

North Ribblesdale v Wath Upon Dearne - long away day for Wath, especially with North Ribb on fire. See no way for Wath to upset the apple cart here so going for a comfortable home win. Ribb +7

Old Rishworthian v Leodiensian - Leos popped their cherry last week but they aren't always the best travellers. Rish will be desperate to get a W on the board, especially at home and will be going all guns blazing here. Rish -7

Wensleydale v Keighley - hopefully Dale have regrouped after last week's walkover but I think this will be a very comfortable away win. Keighley +7

West Leeds v Hullensians - West Leeds improving performance wise with some returning faces so I think this one will be competitive. Hullensians will have confidence though and I think that will give them the edge. Hullensians -7

Yorkshire 1 / Week 5 Predictions & Chat

Been a funny season so far. Don’t think many would have had Pythons, Ribb and Wath in the top 4 and I’m sure no-one would have had West Leeds and Wensleydale in the bottom 2! Only 4 games in so plenty far to go yet. On the other hand it’s 18% of the season over so clubs won’t want to leave it too long before getting wins on the board.

Beverley v Harrogate Pythons
Bridlington v Pocklington
North Ribblesdale v Wath Upon Dearne
Old Rishworthian v Leodiensian
Wensleydale v Keighley
West Leeds v Hullensians

Scrappy 1st half between Pythons and West Leeds with plenty of errors and penalties from both sides. I think both teams will also feel they wasted a lot of good field position as well. In the end though Pythons had the edge at the set piece and took the points on offer. West Leeds' performance actually reminded my quite a lot of Pythons last year, all the nuts and bolts were there but a lack of execution, confidence and errors at key moments let them down. I'm sure it won't be long before they get their first win. For Pythons though we make it 4/4 and see ourselves in 2nd, not a position a lot would have predicted after last season! We're well aware there's tough matches up ahead though but the lads are working hard and enjoying their rugby.

Around the rest of the results it looks like a clear top 6 and bottom 6 opening up so far, albeit very early days yet. Keighley and Old Rish was a fairly expected result. Wath grinding out another home win isn't a surprise and Beverley will no doubt be frustrated by losing another tight one. Leos will be happy to have got off the mark in what looked an entertaining game against Brid. I tipped North Ribb as my dark horse before the season as they've always had a strong pack and now have the backline to match. To go to Pock and come away with 5 points is a huge result and they look well set to push for a top 2 spot. I find it worrying that a team as traditionally strong as Wensleydale are giving away walkovers. I don't know whether it was a lack of front row or just a lack of players overall but it seems a bit odd to publish a squad of 16 on Facebook, a squad of 18 on GMS and then give a walkover. I'm sure Hullensians back 3 will be disappointed to have missed out on the chance to add to their tallies either way.

Pythons 34 - 22 West Leeds
Hullensians HWO Wensleydale
Wath 17 - 10 Beverley
Keighley 60 - 14 Old Rish
Pocklington 29 - 41 North Ribb
Leos 40 - 30 Bridlington

Cracking result for North Ribb. Promotion favourites now?

My reading of the email is that unless surficent clubs request a vote, then unless YRFU decide to hold a vote despite insurficent clubs requesting one, we stay as we are with no lower teams entering the leagues. Only if there is a vote and that vote got more than a 1/3rd of the clubs voting in favour would we switch to have lower teams entering the leagues.

Just checking with you chaps that my understanding is correct ?

10% of clubs I believe. I don't know how many clubs fall under the Yorkshire RFU umbrella though so couldn't tell you how many would actually have to request a vote. I don't know how realistic a prospect it is this time around, I just want people to be aware of it so each club can raise objections if necessary.

Pythons v West Leeds - WL obviously struggling to get going and we've made a great start. Form book says easy home win but I'm under no such illusion that any game against West Leeds is 'easy'. They were up near the top end last year for a reason and, although they have lost some players, I'm sure the players they've got will regroup and get them moving in the right direction. Pythons have started well and we'll have to keep backing up our good performances if we want to continue that. I'll always back us at home, Pythons +7

Hullensians v Wensleydale - if the reports of the pace Ensians backline has are to be believed then this could be a very long day at the office for Dale. Hopefully for their sake they have their number 8 back as he's so important for them. If Ensians hold up the scrum and maul though I think their backs will run riot. Hullensians +7

Leodiensian v Bridlington - 2 teams that have both had one pasting and two fairly close games so a difficult one to call, both also pushed good teams close last week. I've never seen Brid before and Leos usually play their own pitch quite well, going for a narrow home win. Leos -7

Pocklington v North Ribblesdale - game of the day. Both will be flying after 100% starts but Ribb might have that extra edge of confidence after last week. I think there could just be a couple of points in it either way but going to back Ribb, just. Ribb -7

Wath v Beverley - Wath with a great start and a very difficult side to beat on their own patch. I think Beverley will possibly count themselves unlucky to be 3 losses from 3 and I think they have the backline to cause Wath problems. I'll back Wath at home against most though. Wath -7

Keighley v Old Rishworthian - looked like 3 overseas players in the line up last week, any more left to come? No head coach though so could be difficult to gel everything together. Keighley look well set up this year. Forward power, great organisation from 10 and some real pace out wide. They should comfortably see off most teams at home and think they will do again here. Keighley +7

We’ve had the email through today about 2nd XV entries into lower leagues for 2025/26 season. Please ask your club secretary to keep an eye out. I get the feeling they are going to keep trying to push this through until they get the result they want but we can hold them off for as long as possible.

Wheels are falling off at Wensleydale by the looks.

There’s always been a big gulf in quality between the Dale forwards and backs. If you can front up to them in the scrum and stop their maul then they don’t have much of a plan B. In this league there’s quality packs that can match up to Dale and then take them apart in the backs. The weather getting worse will favour Dale and their home form should see them alright in the end, a lot will depend on how much they can get their 2 and 8 on the field.

Todays game against Dale was a scrappy affair to start with but we grew into the game and took our chances well. It was very similar at times to the reverse fixture last year as we gave away far too many penalties and gave Dale great attacking ball. Difference was that this time we stopped their maul and then went up field and converted our chances. 2nd half we felt we left some tries out there but finished strong with 3 more scores.

I think we’ve learnt what it means to play in this league now. 2 promotions in 2 years caught up with us last season and we weren’t ready for the increased physicality, fitness and organisation we were coming up against. The players have worked their knackers off though and it’s paid off so far, already matched last seasons amount of wins in just 3 rounds. Lots of hard work ahead we are sure and there’s a lot of good teams left to play. Certainly a very competitive league though.

Can't see Mr Sunshine going against the tide tomorrow so looks like Northallerton are clear favourites with all predictors in their favour.

Appreciating this is now seriously impinging on everyone's TFI Friday relaxation time; for those interested and to add a little spice; there's a 15 points bonus for the exact score prediction. To be posted before 2.45pm tomorrow please.

41-18 to Northallerton

Hahaha fair play Roundhegians, I clearly don’t know enough to be making informed predictions!

Wensleydale 5 - Pythons 41
Leos 8 - 23 Keighley
Beverley 16 - 23 Pocklington
West Leeds 20 - 30 Wath
Old Rish 28 - 50 Hullensians
Bridlington 31 - 35 North Ribb

6 away wins out of 6! Don’t see that very often. Definitely some surprise starts to the season there at the top and the bottom.
