£3 seemed to be around the average but I’ve seen anywhere from 0-£5 from Y3-Y1

Bramley Phoenix v Roundhegians - never really sure what to expect with either of these teams but Bramley are a difficult team to beat at home. I would expect Hegians to have regrouped after relegation the year before though and be looking to push back up the table. Roundhegians -7

Hemsworth v Dinnington - Hemsworth circling the drain last year and would expect similar this season. Dinnington +7

Northallerton v Bradford & Bingley - game of the day for me. Bees have had a big recruitment drive with a lot of returning faces who have played for them at much higher levels. Northallerton at home are a reality check for anyone though, especially in the pack. Going off what I know of North and what I saw of Bees last year I'm going for a tight home win. North -7

Ossett v Huddersfield Laund Hill - if the rumours are to be believed it could be a long season for HLH. Back Ossett at home most days anyway. Ossett +7

Ripon v Halifax Vandals - I think this will be a tough introduction to Y2 for Vandals. They should be confident after dominating Y3 along with Northallerton but Y2 is a big step up and Ripon are a team building towards a promotion push. Ripon +7

Yarnbury v Baildon - both teams started well last year and then fell off after Xmas but should both really be pushing for promotion this year. Yarnbury to win a close one -7

Really looking forward to our first season in regional leagues for Wetherby. First ever season at these giddy heights, first target for me has to be getting to that 50 league point mark to stay in the league. The bulk of our squad have come up through the juniors with many of them playing together since they were young kids which makes for a great atmosphere within the team and we still have some survivors from the colts teams that helped us drag ourselves back up from the depths of Y5.

No predictions from me as i have not seen most of the teams in this league.

We had a good pre season run out against selby with two close games with their 1s taking a 26-5 win and our 2s just nipping an even closer game with a 29-28.

Should be a great first saturday for the club with Ponty comming over with both 1s and 2s and also with the first team game being a double header for the Yorks Cup.

Looking forward to having a pint with my fellow old farts on the touchline over the season.

Shame we miss out on the local derby but always nice to see a club gain success through building a proper grass roots community club from the juniors upwards. It's a recipe much more likely to lead to lasting success compared to stuffing brown envelopes in kit bags until the cash tap is turned off and the mercenaries go be mercenary elsewhere.

Other Senior Rugby / Future Competition Structure

From the latest RFU briefing it looks like they are going to try and force through allowing 2nd XV's into the leagues again. Info being sent out mid-September so tell your club secretaries to keep an eye out.

Can see the full document here https://www.rfunorth.com/news/ and it talks about the Papa John's, promotion/relegation, registration etc but the bit about the lower XV's is this:
Changes for the 2025-26 Season
1. Future of Lower XVs in RFU Leagues
• Reconfirmation Required: Nine CBs that opted out of including LXV teams must
reconfirm their position by mid-October 2024. Information will be sent to clubs and
CBs in September.
2. Raising the ‘Ceiling’ for LXVs
• New Ceiling: The ceiling for LXVs will be raised from Counties 1 to Regional 2 to
address competitive imbalance and allow fair progression, effective from the 2025-
26 season.

Yorkshire 2 / Re: Banter and Predictions

With 20 days to go before we kick off in earnest, nobody has told me I can't be a moderator any more and I am happy to keep doing so. Not sure if Flaggy and Gate Prop will continue to have interest but as ever, their sage wisdom, challenging rhetoric and entertaining conversations will be more than welcome. I think it anyone else wants to be a moderator they just needs to PM Back Row Bandit or Avinastella and they can put them in the right direction.

It will be good if all clubs had at least one contributor to banter and predictions activities on here, as well of course, the views of rugby minded people from wherever are very welcome. If you're new to this, it's just a bit of fun and anyone at any level will be very welcome.

Banter is just that, intended to be fun, provocative to a degree and likely to spark some lively conversations.

Result prediction threads will be started by me in time for each league match and selective cup or international games as the season progresses. Again just for fun and it would be good if everyone started from week one, so the scoring works more evenly.

Here's to a good remainder of pre-season for everyone.

I’ll still be around and will contribute to predictions where I can. Think I did alright coming 2nd last season given I didn’t see a single minute of Y2

We have lost two of our young bucks to Uni from last season but have a "Walk-in Saffer" who has arrived on a long term visa to live with his mum in town, as a ready made replacement at 9. That and the return of two ex players from higher leagues with county experience give us hope of another decent season. I think injuries, or lack of them, will ultimately dictate our season but we are looking forward to welcoming lots of old friends back to North Ribb.
Good luck to all.

I don’t know whether it was the fact that we’d gone straight from Y3 to Y2 to Y1 but we found the physicality a massive step up and we were more affected by injuries than ever before, especially 2nd half of the season.  Squad depth will play a massive part in how successful everyone’s season will be.

Looks like West Leeds have taken a hit loosing Elliah.

Was probably the best player in Y1 last season on his day.

I'd argue he was the difference in both games against us, scored and created several tries out of absolutely nothing. Big loss for them. Be interesting to see how West Leeds get on as they kind of imploded last season after their title charge faltered.

Y1 winners is really up for grabs for anyone. Bridlington will obviously be looking to bounce straight back up. Keighley have been very close in consecutive seasons and I'm sure will be hurting from losing their unbeaten home record. Pocklington finished the season strong and West Leeds have a strong team across the board. I think North Ribb could be this seasons dark horses, they had a very strong pack when we faced them in Y2 and apparently now have the backline to match. If they have kept hold of their players they will be very competitive and a long away day for most teams.

Has the draw been published anywhere please

Interested observer and would like to see who is playing who

Some clubs seem to know who they are playing, those close to YRFU I guess and others have no idea. The YRFU is its normal helpful self saying no fixtures to display.

Not very helpful I think.

They've put up 3 fixtures for the 1st round of the shield for Sunday 1st September. Not sure whether there's only 6 teams entered or that's a preliminary round or just been published in error. Doesn't take more than 10 minutes to update a website though.

In a period where we've seen clubs fold it's nice to see a new club stepping forwards. Hopefully a good season establishing themselves in a very competitive merit league before entering the league structure and working their way up.

The comments on justgiving are comedy gold. How tone deaf do you have to be to ask for money while paying players ridiculous amounts to get you from level 7 to level 6?

Knowing the mentality at the Bees. I believe their bid to restore lowly(for them) Y1 status has already begun. They simply cant get it out of their myopic minds that the only way to succeed is to SPLASH THE CASH on average players. They can no longer compete with high flying Salem in the money stakes.

Bees have announced 9 new signings so far and a lot of them seem to be returning players. Whether they are splashing the cash or not you’d expect them to be competitive as most of those would have played with them in higher leagues.

Interesting match ups for the opening weekend. Good opportunity to put down a marker early on. Also see only 1 break week during the first 10 fixtures, not sure this was the point of reducing the fixture list as there's less free weekends than ever and certainly no room for cup competitions.
I count 3 free weekends. Interestingly, they are different to R2. In that league they have a full fixture list on 21st Dec whereas Y1 breaks on the 14th.

7 fixtures
Break
3 fixtures
Break

After November the schedule becomes more manageable, assuming there isn't a ton of re-arranged fixtures. Scheduling fixtures on 21st December seems really stupid whatever league you are in. The likelihood of the pitches being playable then is questionable anyway but it's still stupid to have fixtures that close to xmas.

Who's going to take the title this year? Northallerton and Vandals dominated Y3 last year so you'd expect them to be well place to push up the table. Will Bradford & Bingley be able to find their level after a few tough seasons? Have Baildon got enough brown envelopes to last the whole season?

Anyone willing to stick their neck out and make some early predictions for promotion and relegation?

Really is anyone's league for the taking this year. Otliensians and Thornensians were resurgent last year and will look to push on this season. Corinthians will want to bounce straight back up. A couple of signings and a good run of availability could see anyone challenge at the top.

Any early season predictions or thoughts?
