thanks for your continued support of our youngsters. Good description of your game at the Dale. But what is your prediction??
I don’t usually like to make predictions on our own games but always back yourselves.

Beverley v Pocklington - game of the day I reckon. Beverley will throw the kitchen sink at them but I think Pock's pack might just edge this one for them. Certainly a game they'll want to win if they want to establish themselves as promotion contenders. Pock -7
Bridlington v North Ribb - by all accounts a few missing for Ribb which could tighten things up. Brid will be hurting after last week's pounding so I think there'll be a reaction. Going to keep backing Flaggy's lads for now though. Ribb -7
Leodiensian v Keighley - Leos starting slowly and Keighley backing up from hammering Brid. With the weather set to stay fair I'd expect Keighley to win with a BP. Keighley +7
Old Rish v Hullensians - Rish struggling so far and Hullensians resurgent compared to last season, again confidence could play a major factor. Rish were well in the contest against us last week until we took the game away from them in the last 20 so expect them to put up a good performance at home. Hullensians to have the edge though, Hull -7
Wensleydale v Pythons - Dale always a tough place to play and they always seem to put in a good performance against us. We're in no doubt that the last 2 results mean nothing going into this game and we'll have to be at our best to get a win. Hopefully conditions a bit kinder than last year's gale force winds!
West Leeds v Wath - West Leeds struggling badly so far and Wath making a very solid start. Unless there's a massive turnaround from the last 2 weeks I can't see anything other than an away win. Wath +7

Hemsworth v Halifax Vandals - hopefully Hemsworth can raise a team at home but either way should be a comfortable away win. Vandals +7
Northallerton v Roundhegians - difficult start for both teams but North’s power pack will see them be very difficult to beat at home. North +7
Ossett v Bradford & Bingley - Ossett are very strong at home but I’m going to board the Bees hype train until it derails. Ossett always win when I back against them so you’re welcome! Bees +7
Ripon v Bramley Phoenix - good start for both teams. I think Ripon will beat most teams at home though so backing Ripon +7
Baildon v Dinnington - Baildon are difficult to predict and I don’t know a lot about Dinnington. Going home advantage Baildon -7
Yarnbury v Huddersfield Laund Hill - could be a long season for HLH and Yarnbury always strong at home. Yarnbury +7
Northallerton v Roundhegians - difficult start for both teams but North’s power pack will see them be very difficult to beat at home. North +7

Yorkshire 1 / Re: Week 2 Predictions & Chat
« on: September 15, 2024, 08:18:56 PM »Just read the results for Yorkshire 1- all home teams scored over 20 and 3 over 70- tough year for some teams this year
Seems to be some teams struggling for availability already with some claiming 10+ missing, in what was a very competitive league last year a few missing can be the difference between a close game and losing by 30+ as we found out towards the end of the season at Pythons when we were down to the bare bones. Maybe once students are back, farmers have finished their crops and cricket season finishes we may see some stronger line ups.
Pythons game against Rish was a very pleasing performance. 20-17 at half time reflected a tight contest but we put the foot down in the 2nd half winning it 25-0. Hopefully after a difficult introduction to Y1 last season we have found our feet now and continue being competitive, 2 from 2 so far when we only won 3 games all last season. As we also saw last season, getting off to a good start in this league will be very important, especially with both promoted teams hitting the ground running. I think we'll see a pretty good indication of where teams will be at after about 5 rounds.

I’ve not seen 5 blowout scores in a league this competitive from what I can remember. Are teams struggling for players? What’s going on?
Credit to the promoted sides smashing it so far.

Bradford & Bingley v Hemsworth - with Bees claiming to be missing a lot of players but still getting a win in a tough away fixture I think that probably gives an indicator of their strength this year. This should be a big home win. Bees +7
Dinnington v Ossett - both teams with good wins first up. Ossett tended to be less consistent away from home last year though so going for a close home win. Dinno -7
Halifax Vandals v Northallerton - with both teams very familiar with each other and kicking off with defeats they’ll be keen to get a W in the board. Home advantage should clinch this one. Vandals -7
Roundhegians v Ripon - shocking start for Roundhegians so unless there’s a big turnaround this week I can’t see them having enough to trouble a young, confident Ripon side. Ripon +7
Bramley Phoenix v Yarnbury - about as close an away fixture as you can get for Yarnbury. Both teams with good starts but Yarnbury did the double over Bramley last year so suspect they might have the edge here. Yarnbury -7
Huddersfield Laund Hill v Baildon - don’t really know what to expect from either team after poor starts for both. Home advantage counts so HLH -7

The main positive for us at the weekend was that that was exactly the type of game that we lost last season. Leaving points out on the field cost us 5 or 6 wins last season and first game of the season last year was exactly one of those fixtures so a good start to turn that one around. It's been a big off-season of change for us on and off the pitch but the boys are feeling good about the upcoming season and a bit of confidence will go a long way after last years' struggles.
Looking around at the other fixtures my tips for Ribb and Pock seem to be accurate. I was surprised at how close Hullensians got to Keighley but, with players like Manoa Wacokecoke lining up for them, they may have had a good recruitment drive. I'd be interested to hear any reports from the Old Rish v Wath game as there were rumours of Rish having recruited well, I did note their stand out 10/15 Rangi wasn't on the team sheet, he'd be a big loss for them.

Yorkshire 2 / Re: Match Day Entrance Fee
« on: September 08, 2024, 10:57:33 AM »NorthA have upped their price to £4 this year. Various discussions/arguments about the worth of it. However, I’ve been told that the RFU insist on clubs charging an entrance fee at this level which makes me wonder why Ripon don’t? 🤷🏼
North also failed to field a 2nd team this week, hopefully a one off, but times are getting difficult to attract new players.
Can anyone confirm this? Not something we've come across before.

Bridlington vs Beverley - not sure what to expect from Bridlington though imagine they’ll be keen to go straight back up. Beverley have enough to cause anyone problems though so think it will be close. Brid -7
Leodiensian vs Harrogate Pythons - big off season of change for us with a few first team regulars retiring or moving on and our head coach of 8 years stepping down. New coaching set up and a few new faces to fill the void though and there’s a good atmosphere around the club. Not really sure what to expect of this season but backing ourselves as always.
Old Rishworthian vs Wath Upon Dearne - if Rish have recruited well then this will be a baptism of fire for Wath. They will more than hold their own in the forwards but Rish’s backs are very good and should be the difference. Rish +7
Wensleydale vs Pocklington - Pock are one of my dark horses this year after an excellent 2nd half of last season. Their pack should match Wensleydale but their backs could do a lot of damage. Pock +7
West Leeds vs North Ribblesdale - Ribb my other dark horse this season and will be looking to make a statement early on. I don’t know what West Leeds will look like but Elijah is a huge loss on his own. Ribb -7
Keighley vs Hullensians - long day at the office for Ensians. Keighley will be looking to re-establish their home fortress and should have enough for a comfortable BP win. Keighley +7
