Yorkshire 1 / Re: Week 9 MOM
« on: October 31, 2011, 04:00:20 PM »
I have to agree, though according to some of our players and coach, he didn't seem to know how to ref the break-down, in particular, allowing the York players to kill the ball by not moving away... bear in mind I'm an ex-back watching from the stands though !
A fair result though, so onwards and upwards....
Were you playing ?

YE - I DO remember said Touch Judge : not totally honest !
Our own TJ, Bobby has been doing the job for years - as well as providing kit, water-bottles, kicking tees, marking the pitch out etc etc. He's been Clubman of the Year more times than I can remember...
He was also - apparently - doing a great job in the Brid game until the 80th minute, until the ref overruled him, the first such occurence this season - a big call that was simple 100% wrong.

In our game against Brid the ref actually overruled our touch judge ! The decision cost us a bonus point win and we're still smarting over it as it was zoo obviously wrong.

York 12 - 12 Ilkley A pen-fest - York backs superior, but couldn't hold on to the final pass. Ilkley forwards superior, but kept giving penalties away.
The ref will want to forget this game : a whistle concerto from start to finish, with some utterly bewildering decisions that got both sets of players ( and coaches ) fuming. Crowd not happy either.
Despite that, a close game ( obviously ) and oddly, a fair result.
Greene King IPA is worth avoiding, but nice egg sandwiches....

Will there be any prizes for the most pointless thread at the end of the season? Especially considering that the guy who started it is not even at the club he is talking about anymore!
ACTUALLY I AM STILL AT THE SAME CLUB...

To illustrate just how close Y1 is, Ilkley's record is Played 8, Won 4, Lost 4 : of the matches won, the opposition has gained a losing bonus point in each and of the matches lost, we have gained a bonus point in each ( total 4, the same as a win )
Of all four lost matches, the points difference is just -11
Now I really must find some work to do....

If you can be bothered to look, Picture 170 on the Ilkley website of the Brid game shows the Ilkley winger immediately after touching down. Unsurprisingly, he was convinced he had scored, so to disallow the ' try ' was a very big call, seeing that it would have been Ilkley's 4th and a bonus-point win.
Whistle Blower said that he was tackled into touch, which he most certainly wasn't, then changed the call to ' dropping the ball '... I'm not convinced.
It was a cracking game of rugby though, played in great spirit and as previously written here, Ilkley forwards v Brid backs, particularly their full-back. The Ilkley forwards were very much on top in the last quarter of the game - including a pushover try - but the Brid defence held out - just ! If Ilkley had only held on in the forwards for that final move instead of whipping it out wide, they could have mauled it over - predictable maybe, but we do it well - ask Cass !

That's four losses with a bonus point for each. Same as a win. ! Brid very lucky at the end as the Ilkley forwards dominated. On another day the ' try ' would have been awarded..
