WPL 20 - 8 Ripon. Not much more to say.

Ripon 20 - 3 Leos. Respect to Leos after a 0 - 3 first half, with visitors' strong defence. Better second half for Ripon with more continuity and attacking options better executed.

Ripon return to winning ways with victory over Barnsley 25 - 29. A close fought encounter with some quality play on both sides.

Yorkshire 2 / Week 11 Banter
« on: November 13, 2017, 08:33:52 AM »
Firstly, good luck to all participants in cup competitions next weekend and Ripon to draw on their inner strength to grind out a win against Barno.

Week 11:

Barno to improve on recent league and cup form to smash Thorne despite their good turn out this weekend.

Goolies too good all round for Vandals, so expect a thumping away win.

Ripon have to get back to winning ways to avoid any embarrassment at Leo's.

Hegians will have nothing in the tank to face up to Ponte. Another thumping away win.

Game of the week for me at Wath. OGs free of s**t and Gasman back in form for another away win.

Wetherby "hood set of lads", but not "hood enough" to trouble Crocs.

Yawnbury to to boringly beat England.

Yorkshire 2 / Week 10 Banter
« on: November 06, 2017, 08:33:53 AM »
Goole v Ripon - Ripon to do better than a draw and get back into top half of the table.

Leos v Yarno - Can't see Leos doing anything but losing here, big time.

Crocs v Vandals - A good Number 8 and a Winger named "Sue", won't be enough to get Vandals (what scrum?) out of trouble.

Grovians v Wetherby - OGs on a roll and magnanimous in victory. Wetherby to arrogantly blame dog poo, changing rooms, ref, etc, etc.

Ponte v Barno - If Barno can get beaten by England, they have no hope against in form Ponte.

Thorne v Wath - Despite the baying mob of Thornies, the pie men to take this with a cricket score.

England v Hegians - Hate to say it, but England on a roll and Hegians not up to much - home win.

Yorkshire 2 / Week 9 Banter
« on: October 30, 2017, 09:03:39 AM »
Barnsley v England- Barno too strong all round so a comfy home win.

Vandals v Farmers - an unknown quantity, but going on form, a solid away win for Ripon.

Crocs v OGs - battle of the old boys, Grovians not used to playing on such a clean pitch will succumb to the Crocs.

Hegians v Leos - formality for Hegians as it doesn't look like Leos have much to offer at all.

Wath v Ponte - Ponte by a cricket score.

Wetherby v Thorne - a close encounter with Wetherby showing humility in victory

Yarno v Ghoul - a scary prospect, but if Yarno play the way they did on Saturday, should be a stroll for the goolies.

Yorkshire 2 / Week 7 Banter
« on: October 09, 2017, 08:27:36 AM »
Before we move into the next round of league action, Ripon to "Step on the gas" and beat OGs in the cup next weekend.

Week 7 - the tough get going!

Barnsley v Goole  - Barnsley to bounce back and squeak a win with home advantage.

Vandals v Yarnbury - Yarnbury seemingly unstoppable at the moment and don't see Vandals as capable of starting the stopping.

Crocs v Ponte - Looks like another tight one, with Crocs taking home advantage.

Grovians v Thorn - OGs an all round sharper outfit, so will keep Thorn in the bottom half of the table.

Hegians v Ripon - Ripon to continue winning ways in a tough game, but an away win.

Wath v Leo's - last week's Leo's win a fluke and Wath to take this one by a cricket score.

Wetherby v WPL - Wetherby clearly nothing to be arrogant about any more after dropping to Leo's. Magnanimity being the new buzz word as WPL pile on the points.

Yorkshire 2 / Predictions?

Excuse the impudence MR, but are you too incapacitated laughing at the banter to get the predictions topic going?  ;)

Yorkshire 2 / Week 6 Banter
« on: October 02, 2017, 08:32:37 AM »
Goole v Wath - Goole simply have to be more inventive and so apart from watching out for Wath's nippy nine, should be a comfortable home win. Certainly no "cricket score" for Wath.

Leo's v Wetherby - Sad Leos to succumb to "arrogant" Wetherby.

Ponte v OG's - Ponte stringing together some decent results and despite the resurgence of Gasman, Ponte for a bonus point win.

Ripon v Barnsley - Heart says Ripon, but head says they really need to dig deep to get back on track.

Thorne v Vandals - Battle of the bottom feeders. Those blokes on the bench by the scoreboard are worth a few points with their erudite match commentary, so a home win to be slogged out.

WPL v Crocs - If Crocs can keep the tackles down, should be able to sneak an away win.

Yarnbury v Hegians - Should be a close run thing, with perhaps a bonus point loss for Hegians.

Yorkshire 2 / High Tackling
« on: September 26, 2017, 11:10:03 PM »
Has anyone on here, or affiliated coaches, heard that it's against the laws to tackle "over and under the shoulders"?

Complying would maybe reduce the penalty counts and maybe even reduce the unnecessary harm to what I have seen to four players already this season, excluded due to concussion.

Anyone heard of the RFU "Headcase" campaign?

Yorkshire 2 / Week 5 Banter
« on: September 25, 2017, 08:25:58 AM »
Barnsley v Yarnbury - Away win, Yarnbury to open up the gap between first and second place.

Vandals v Roundhegians - Hegians too strong and Vandals not looking like they are having much luck so far.

Crocs v Leo's - Battle of the old boys, Crocs to power home and send Leo's further towards relegation.

Grovians v WPL - England to romp home with this one.

Thorne v Ponte - Thorne may be big and strong, but Ponte doing well and pushing to stay in top three.

Wath v Ripon - Ripon can get over last two weeks hiccups and if they can beef up the pack a bit, will make a good showing here.

Wetherby v Goole - Home win with a simple game plan. No frills, just good team effort.

Yorkshire 2 / Banter Week Four
« on: September 18, 2017, 09:53:26 AM »
Getting the banter in before the predictions post, hope I don't get into trouble!

Goole v Crocs - on Saturday's display, Crocs by a narrow margin. Need to keep close tabs on the score though.

Leos v Old Grovians - Leos looking like another poor season and OGs looking good. Away win by a bucketful.

Ponte v Vandals - Ponte too strong in the backs and if they can keep the ball alive an easy home win.

Ripon v Wetherby - Ripon to bounce back and play for the full eighty minutes and send Wetherby packing back down the A1.

Hegians v Barnsley - Home team strong, but Barnsley to take this with a five pointer.

WPL v Thornensians - Despite league standing, Thorne to come good and get a resounding away win.

Yarnbury v Wath - Yarnbury clearly looking to bounce back up to Y1 and are likely to make this four wins on the trot.

Old Crossleyans 39 - 21 Ripon. A slow start by Ripon well taken advantage of by Crocs. Credit to the hosts for their five try win, which could have been limited by better tackling and fewer mistakes. Good scrum again Ripon, onwards and upwards!

Yorkshire 2 / Banter Week Three
« on: September 10, 2017, 05:13:20 PM »
Here we go again, things are starting to get interesting. Running with my "All away wins theory", it looks a bit like this:

Barnsley to use their enterprising backs to run around Vandals and get a decent score difference to their credit.

Old Crossleyans will need to work hard up front and defend well out wide to get a result against Ripon's exciting back line.

Big hearted and talented as they are, Old Grovians will undoubtedly struggle against an in form Goole and make it three in a row for the hosts. Who can stop Goole?

Ponte at home will be looking for a win, but WPL look to be getting their act together and will effect a decent win.

Thornensians don't seem to be establishing as much of a home fortress as they thought. Leos on the up, if they can dominate up front, should be in with a shout.

A close encounter between Wath and 'Hegians and probably won by who grunts loudest. Another away win.

Wetherby possibly running out of steam, so a good win for Yarnbury, who have much to prove.

Someone has to start the banter, or it will be a long and boring season!

Barnsley v Wath - Barnsley to edge the forward tussle and use strike power of their backs.

Goole v Thornesians - Goole to show learning from their bounce down and back, plus Thorne's discipline (or lack of) may hamper them.

Ponte v Leos - Ponte to recover smartly from last weekend. Could be an exciting battle of the backs?

Ripon v Grovians - Ripon to take advantage of the slope either way and with an effective line out, could pull off two wins on the trot.

Roundhegians v Wetherby - battle of the "promotion contenders", Wetherby may remain unsettled after coach and team changes.

Vandals v WPL - Halifax to show their true strength and prove they deserved promotion.

Yarnbury v Crocs - clash of the Yorkshire 1 exiles. Who knows?
