Billingham came out of the gates early and with some quick thinking from their scrum half created some fantastic opportunities, which they took and scored some wonderful tries. They looked to be too much for heath but just before the second half heath managed to plug the holes in their defence and maintained the ball for a short period of time. Half time came and gave the heath lads some respite to gather themselves and figure out how to deal with the billingham game plan. The second half started well for heath Maintaining the ball for most of the half and scoring some great tries. Although the billingham defence was rock solid. Heath came close to catching billingham but a try at the end of the game sealed the deal. It truly was a game of two halves. The 4G pitch certainly speeds the game up and it took heath sometime to adjust. Billingham played very well and they fought for every point and fully deserved the win. Thank you for the great hospitality and we look forward to the return fixture.

Alnwick vs Phoenix

Phoenix have lost 3 out of their last 3, Alnwick have lost 2 of their last three. This is by far the game of the day. Phoenix will be desperate to get a win otherwise they could drop down the table uncontrollably. Whereas Alnwick are a different beast at home. I’m going to not only predict the winner but also the score. Alnwick 27 - 22 phoenix.

Billingham vs heath

Whoever can muster the most passion and desire will win this game. No score prediction for this one. Just a Heath win, but it will come at a cost for both teams as it will be a brutal affair.

Cleck vs Driff

Cleckheaton are the underdogs, but they are extremely dangerous in that position. They will drag Driffield into an arm wrestle and my money is on cleck to win that one. Driffield are used to a wide pitch with fine grass, not a narrow pit full of beasts. Cleckheaton 30 - 19 Driffield.

Scunthorpe vs sandal

Both team have won their last two games and are looking to climb the table. Sandal are in a slightly more comfortable position, however not by much. If Scunthorpe can dominate Sandal up front then they will do the job, but if Sandal get the easy ball out to the backs then they will run away with it. The forcast is for a bright and sunny day in scunny, I’m going with sandal. Scunthorpe 12 - sandal 45

West bridgford vs Paviors

West bridgford all day. Close game as Paviors have had some great results, but none on the road. West bridgford will win a game this side of Christmas and my money is on this one. West bridgford 26 - 22 paviors

York vs Ilkley.

Ilkleys forwards will not cope with the York power, particularly in the scrum. The York backs will match the Ilkley backs therefore it will be a day for the forwards and rolling mauls. York to win, but a close game. York 17 - Ilkley 15

Although I have not seen Heath this season, by their results and the Chris Johnson factor, they look a likely candidate for high position in the league. At Billingham next Saturday it will be a tremendous battle and should give us plenty of pointers.

Unfortunately chris Johnson is not available this weekend, however Heath have a young 10 coming through the ranks who is eager to impress. This could be a good or a bad thing. Heath are also missing their Tunisian international which will certainly hamper their forward power. Can an under strength heath side take on a full strength Billingham at home?

As predicted a couple of weeks ago, West Bridgford finally produced their best game of the season at Stacks Field, according to their thinly-spread support.  Ilkley had their best side of the season out and ended up with a five point win, but boy, was it tough !

Still not quite firing on all cylinders and with York away and Billingham at home coming up, it’s about time they were. Still, up to fifth, so no complaints.

A prediction which was laughed at by many, never doubt papa woody. Woodys the name, rugbys my game. I had an in-depth conversation with a west bridgford player last night while attending a university reunion. They were disappointed not to get the win, they certainly identified it as a game they could collect 4 points. I guess the long trip up took its toll. Best of luck Ilkley next week. I hope all the cylinders are back up and running. Just hope it doesn’t cost too much to fix.

Made the trip to watch west bridgford vs heath. Although they have had some tough games the west bridgford lads are highly motivated and clearly have a good social circle. I think they will have enough to beat Ilkley as they have a powerful pack. Which is something Ilkley clearly struggle with. I also predict them to win at home against paviors. Some teams will think about resting players when taking them on but I wouldn’t recommend it. The pitch had a really nice spring to it, considering how hard the pitches have been of late. I was informed they have watered it as much as possible this summer. Heath enjoyed the after match meal, bbq chilli with chips, seconds were had. They also enjoyed their bus trip, not the double decker Heath grammar school fun bus  they had hoped for but atleast they had a toilet this time. I think they will make the most of their weekend off. Some bulking needed perhaps as York clearly have a huge pack and heath will have to add some weight to their athletic forwards. Picken chicken will be busy this week.

Better result for West bridgford, my prediction was almost correct 😂😂

It will be interesting to hear from the Heath and York contingents about their game.

It was great to welcome York back down to Halifax this weekend, the last game they played ended in a draw and saw York getting promoted from Yorkshire 1 along with Scarborough.  Heath just missed out on promotion that year.. So this game was always going to be a lively encounter, although I didn’t recognise many of the York players, seemed like a completely different outfit to when York were in Yorkshire 1.Heath however had 10 players playing yesterday who had played in that Yorkshire 1 2017/2018 season, therefore they required little motivation. York are a powerful side, strong and athletic forwards combined with fast and well organised backs. They have a very good scrum and their catch and drive was almost successful a number of times yesterday. Heath were made work extremely hard for every point and every inch. Unfortunately for York the meat grinder that is North Dean spotting complex chewed up any attempts at scoring a try and allowed heath to capitalise on some winded bodies. Heath enjoyed a fantastic pasta and prawn/sausage surprise meal on Thursday night after training which I think gave the players adequate carbohydrate stores for such a battle. A bit too much pepper for my liking but beggars can’t be choosers I suppose. Hopefully we can convince the club chairman to stop spending so much money in pepper and more money on crisp selection, only 4 varieties to choose from, well three really as I don’t count poppadoms as a crisp.

Bold call regards Ilkley struggling with West Bridgford - although they clearly struggled with the size of Scunthorpe, and not had any big results against Paviors and Sandal. When west Bridgford made the trip to Driffield they were missing a number of players due to last minute cancelations and played a number of old boys who clearly hadn't played this level of rugby for a number of years. They do have some dangerous backs and agree they will create problems for any team who go into the game expecting an easy win.
Does the Heath travel budget now have restrictions due to the increased player budget if toilets have now become a novelty? If Cusack is back playing for York, then the battle of the 10s will be fascinating as Johnson and Cusack play off against each other for the 10 shirt in the team of the year!

A travel budget would be nice. Unfortunately heath have spent all their money on Canadian geese removal. Have Driffield got toilets on their bus? Jesus your posh

The Ilkley v Alnwick game was very different from the one before, against Heath.

The Heath game was just a follow on from last season, played in much the same style - pretty brutal and a lot of injuries.

The Alnwick game was much more like a level 5 game - faster, with far less time to think. Newcomers to the league will find it much sharper than level 6. It was close too - Alnwick scored two unconverted tries, before Ilkley kicked two penalties and had a try disallowed. There was also a knock-on over the line. Eventually, Alnwick kicked a late penalty to make it 6-13, but Ilkleybwere well worthy of their second losing bonus point.

Paviors have a big pack apparently, which won’t be to Ilkley’s liking, but my forecast will be for an away win.

I was informed by a reliable source that the Alnwick v Ilkley game was more like a level 4 game, packed full of pace, skill and penalty kicks. I would say the Heath vs paviors game was more like a level 8 game. Big lazy forwards beating each other up for 80 minutes, only allowing the backs to score when they tired. The fact the ball ever made it passed 10 was a miracle. If Ilkley found the heath physicality too much to handle then they will suffer immensely under the heavy hands of Paviors. Best of luck to all teams playing this weekend. Heath play sandal under Friday night lights so no need for the double decker fun bus from Halifax high school.

Paviors made the long trip to Heath missing a few players and a few lads on the pitch were carrying obvious injuries. They did not have much opportunity to score. But they kept pushing for 80 minutes and were rewarded with a try in the second half for their efforts. Paviors have a sizeable pack and they are extremely good in the Lineout and mauls. Paviors also dominated the scrum for 80 minutes, causing Heath a lot of issues. This area will win them many games this season. They appeared a bit light in the backs, but I assume that area has been effected by injuries and unavailability’s. West Vale continues its reputation of being a meat grinder and Heath are happy with the win. Paviors play Ilkley next at their spot, i feel the paviors forwards will be too much for Ilkley, however the battle in the backs will determine the reault. Heath play Sandal under the Friday night lights, should be a bit cooler for all the unfit forwards of heath and sandal.

The game at stacks field almost didn’t happen, the heath double decker school bus of fun took a detour via hull. However they eventually rocked up, mullets at the ready. As pristine shorts said, it was a very physical game. You could say it had a derby game feel to it. 1st and 2nd from the previous year battling it out for early season bragging rights. Although we prefer to leave the bragging to others. Heath at home next week to paviors and Ilkley away to Alnwick. Both paviors and Alnwick dominated up from last weekend. Heath and Ilkley both missing two props each next weekend, this could be interesting.

The game was pointless anyway, Ilkley have won the league already and Bradford are struggling. No injuries for both sides, both teams will be happy to have a weekend off. Bradford are in a bad way, but the players have tried their best to be competitive. They will aim to bounce back next season, but if they are unable to build a squad they should be realistic and drop down to Yorkshire 2 or 3 perhaps. I feel Yorkshire 1 would be to strong. Would this allow for another team from the leagues below to be promoted?

Your very welcome. I watched Ilkley play Morpeth at home, Scarborough away, moortown away and heath at home. I just realised Ilkley lost against moortown in that game also. Perhaps I should avoid watching your games next season as I’m clearly bad luck 😂😂

Congratulations Ilkley, Heath and Driffield.

Ilkley (the injured stallion) have played some fantastic rugby this season and showed a lot of mental strength having been relegated the previous season. I personally watched four of their games, two they lost against heath and Scarborough. Both epic battles. Following these losses they remained focused and consistent until the end of the season. It is a great club and I’m sure they will have another successful season next year.

Heath (the new pack) have battled their way to promotion, most weeks facing a club who they have never faced or have not faced for some years. A team which has grown and become stronger after each game. They are known as the meat grinder and the team that never gives up. Something they have learned from years of pushing for promotion from Yorkshire 1. If they add a few more strings to their bow I think they will be just as dangerous next season.

Driffield (the veteran) have been outstanding this season, starting the season with 2 draws must have been tough. Having a few years of north 1 east experience showed its worth and they remained focused, the only surprise result coming at the hands of Scarborough on the last day of the season. Although having watched Scarborough beat Ilkley earlier in the year with a similar team sheet, I was certainly not surprised.  Driffield, much like heath, are a powerful team and if they recruit well this summer they will certainly be successful.

Cleckheaton have been unlucky not to finish in the top three. They finished the season very strong and will be contenders for the top spot next season.

Well done to all teams who have competed this year. It’s been a pleasure.

Great game of rugby between Heath and Morley. Morley are a powerful bunch of lads, Very strong in the scrum and dangerous at the ruck. Heath absorbed a lot of pressure in the first half and put some good phases together in the second half to score a few tries.. It is surreal for Heath to be in the same league as Morley, but to beat them home and away is unbelievable. We look forward to playing Scarborough next week, they are a great bunch of lads and I’m sure they will be looking forward to another bus trip. Wonder what the fancy dress will be this week?
