Flaggy, the RFU can do it and do!

As most of you are aware I spend a lot of time watching national league now where the Christmas fixtures are fantastic;

Sheff v Sheff Tigers
Leeds v Otley
Hull I's v Hull
Wharfedale v Harrogate
Billingham v Tyndale
Lymm v Chester
Grasshoppers v Fylde

So I would question the team that do the regional fixtures!

21st December will be a fantastic opportunity to get a big crowd in and have a great festive game of rugby!!

As for the general standard of the leagues we are seeing the benefit of much better coaching from a young age of all off our current crop of players.
You may laugh when a prop bursts through and throws a lovely dummy or 10m pass, but this is due to all off the hard work put into these lads at all our great local community clubs.

The difference the higher you go up is always a challenge for a club.
Each club may have 8-10 players that could play a league higher, but the the rest of the squad will deem where they end up.

nice to catch up with you all.....from a lifer on the forum ;-)

To add to the debate, my old club Cambridge is now in the Championship. They are not a full time pro club, and are struggling against those that are.

The club has four teams in all, three of which play the traditional way - for fun - a ladies team and a thriving mini/youth. The senior team is a mixture of local lads, players from a reasonable distance who get travel expenses (one, for example, is an electrician by trade), and others who are on loan from top clubs to gain experience and match practice to keep up to speed (this latter group change season by season).

I do not know what, if at all, the coaches are paid.

Make of that what you will.

I think that you need to wake up here RH. All Cambridge first team squad get paid in some way or another.....even the loans have to be subject to compensation to their club.
All Championship players will receive renumeration in various forms but I can tell you there will be no player playing that level just for the love of it.

I think that comment is a little premature.
Birkenhead are a good club and I am sure would love a day out in the sun at Selby!!

avinastella, if you did your homework you will have seen that one of those lads actually went to Wharfedale and has now returned to his home club!
Great lad.

Morning Insider,

I agree with you on freedom of speech and would never discourage people from posting. I merely gave my opinion on how the majority of Selby supporters feel about the game today.

I don't get down much as I watch a lot of national league but the thought of watching this tasty fixture and catching up with some old players enthuses me.
Also let's not forget both Gary Wakes and Tommy Burton, who I played with, and the  trophies that are dedicated in their name.

I still have a little adrenaline flowing this morning but chose to keep within myself.

So come and seek me out today and we can share a pint...one winning and one losing!!

Winning games is hard enough for the lads without a club member fueling up the opposition.
I appreciate that this could be seen as "banter" but I think that I can say that the majority of Selby supporters do not associate with the views of Talk is Cheap.

I will be visiting Sandhill Lane for the first time for a while tomorrow to catch up with both Selby and Goole supporters.  And I bet you one thing...it will be a blooming close game!!

Here's to a great day of local rugby!!
