Yorkshire 1 / Scarb v York
« on: September 08, 2016, 05:05:00 PM »
Will be interesting to see how lowly homespun York fare tomorrow at the palatial home of big spending Scarborough; the hosts, packed with expensive imports such as Loni Loni and Hoggy Hoggy, will be smarting from their unexpected defeat to Selby and will be expecting to take the all UK and 90% home produced York to the cleaners. I'm unable to attend so will be checking my phone at 4:30 onwards anxiously hoping we can keep the score respectable.....

Scarb have appointed Graham Hogg, brother of Stuart, as their new YDO and will also be straight into the first team. Ex Scotland 7's international so may cause a few problems in various midfield defences.....
Anyway, its on the Scarborough News website if you can get the blasted thing to open properly ; looking like an East Coast shoot out for the top 2 now.....

Yorkshire 1 / New coach at Selby

Best wishes to our near neighbours on their new appointment, I guess Wetherby will be somewhat brassed off though. Sorry but I'm too thick to post the link !

Without going into too much detail Sail By , aka Jamie Pocklington, had a health scare on Tuesday evening and is now recuperating in hospital . I'm sure the Yorkshire rugby family all wish a top bloke a very speedy recovery.

Other Senior Rugby / Paul Hill
« on: January 13, 2016, 04:09:22 PM »
Thrilled to see Doncaster born prop Paul Hill included in the 6 Nations squad. Hell of an achievement for a lad who has only played a handful of first team games but from what I've seen of him on the telly he has more than held his own against Europe's best.
My son played with him at Prince Henry's 3 years ago and he was a big strong rangy unit then at the age of 17 , he's certainly put some beef on since !

Yorkshire 1 / York v Scarborough
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:22:41 PM »
We look forward to welcoming our North Yorkshire rivals to our modest little ground tomorrow and it seems that most of the pundits are predicting a large victory for the mighty seasiders.
Time then methinks to stick my piggy little neck out and predict a narrow win for York. We have a new signing in the pack and hopefully 2 weeks of tackling practice after the Yarnbury debacle. Ignore me at your peril as I predicted a similar upset in our away fixture at Selby last season !
Of course if the formbook rules then I shall eat humble pork pie ......

Yorkshire 1 / Week 5 results
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:56:25 PM »
Oh go on then , I'll break the silence.....
Heath deserved winners at York today as the home players put in a subdued performance . Heath were more accurate and defensively solid whereas York were sloppy at times and lacking enough pace in the pack. That said , we had several new players in and some enforced changes so on reflection some of the mistakes were not surprising.
Good win for Ribb I see.....

I hear one of Selby's other backs might be heading off as well........

Just to balance the books with my Selby pals,York may have lost up to 6 of this season's squad due to retirements, work and injury but have recruitment targets in the pipeline ...!

Yorkshire 1 / Lies, damned lies and statistics........
« on: March 05, 2015, 05:07:51 PM »
York will travel to Donny on Saturday doubtless with hope rather than expectation. That said, we are the only side to beat them this season in the second round of the Shield, and yes it wasn't their full strength side but every player in that team had played first xv rugby for DP so I was told. It has been pointed out to me that this sole defeat has been erased from the fixtures and results section on their website thus leaving an impressive array of green W's.....
I checked it hadn't been allocated to their 2nd xv but didn't have the heart to check the 3rdxv results....Anyone care to comment from Donny ?
