Was interesting to see Wesley Langkilde playing for I's in there 10s tournament, has he moved again?

He's on their squad list
You'd have to think he's got a bit of work to do on his engine before he's ready for that level.

I don't know who he is but believe he's a prop?  The 4 props they have, 2 are England Counties and 2 Ex Championship so a bit of work to do anyway?
Yes, looks like a prop from my basic googling.  Definitely work to do versus the current boys.

He got hammered in the scrum by our 18 year old prop playing for Scarborough 2nds a couple of seasons ago so hope he has improved a lot if he is planning on playing National 1!

Doncaster Phoenix are looking for a pre-season fixture on Saturday 20th August 2016 - either home or away.

Please private message me if you can help!

Thanks

Good to win but let's not get carried away. Lost the try count 4-3, and without Farrel's goal kicking we would have lost the game. Oz marginally more inventive, and I'm sure will realise you can't play Test matches the way you play the Super rugby brand so will be much harder next time round.

Still don't rate Haskell at 7.

After his last two performances I'm not sure how you can't give Haskell some credit, he has been immense - he's like a different player under Jones. Itoje is awesome and really is living up to the hype - I think it was said in commentary at some point that he's not lost a game he has started since May 2015! Hartley has been a revelation as captain.

Don't want to get carried away but it's hard not to at the moment!

Reading between the lines are you talking about young lads quitting Doncaster for Wheatley? I would be surprised if that were the case - almost all of the regular Doncaster Colts backs from last year figured in our First XV at some point, and love him or hate him they all love playing for Ant Posa who does put a big emphasis on blooding youngsters...

I don't think there's any of them left who are on here, they were Y3 players, saw their seconds a month ago, and they were all the Knights colts. Not sure what happened to the lads that used to be down there.

We're all still around Gaz, some have retired, some are injured, some can't play Saturdays with work, etc, but nearly all the lads I've played with at Phoenix over the last 10 years are still around the club in one form or another.

From the squad that played Selby when we were promoted from Yorkshire 2 a few years ago...

Joe Lowcock - Still playing in the 1st team
Scott Plevey - Retired, now club vice-president
Dan Morris - Retired, now club treasurer
Ross Owen - Played half of last season in the 1st team then moved to Australia
Sam Birtles - Moved to London, still gets up to watch quite a few games
Nick Byrne - Still playing in the 1st team
Blake Butler - Has stopped playing, although did start training again towards the end of the season
Ryan Peacey - Retired at the end of the season, will still be involved with the club though
Tim Elliott - Still playing in the 1st team
Dan Storey - Played one game this season, but new job means he can't play on Saturdays
Dan Lovell - Works on Saturdays so can't play
Andy Ellis - 1st team captain this season
Ollie Vidgeon - Moved back to London after doing a years work placement up here, but keeps in touch with the club
Me - Injured all season! Still a club member and at nearly every game this season
Craig Deakin - Work / family means he can't play on Saturdays any more, although he still makes it down occasionally as his cousin is now a regular in the 1st team

Pete Atkinson - Played nearly every 2nd XV game this season, plus a few in the 1st XV
Ade Sheehan - Moved to Retford, still involved in the social side of the club!
Joe Watts - Still playing in the 1st team

Looking through all the other players who played that season, almost all of them are still playing in the 2nd or 3rd teams. Yes we have a lot of youngsters coming through from Doncaster's junior set-up, but that can only be a good thing surely?

... and unfortunately, it's Sheffield that have moved to N3M to balance the leagues. I wish it had been DP.

Why?

I wonder if they are regretting cancelling their fixture with us back in October, resulting I a 5 point deduction?

Result probably closer than the game to be fair - Phoenix played very well and Tigers scored 2 tries in the last 5 minutes after Phoenix had been reduced to 14 men to make the result look closer than it was.

Tigers had some very big lads in the forwards but didn't offer that much in the backs, preferring route one rugby around the ruck - however Phoenix tackled everything and Tigers ran out of ideas.

Phoenix scored after a driving maul late in the first half, and then number 8 Sam Eyre went on a typical strong run off the back of a scrum and the Tigers winger was unable to stop him going over in the corner.

A good game played in good spirit by two good second teams who would more than hold their own in Yorkshire 2/3. Also worth noting the average age of Phoenix's team can't have been much over 21 - there were only 5 players in the team over 21 I think.

Yes the Cup final is tonight at Castle Park, 7pm kick-off

Phoenix 2nds beat Wheatley 2nds 31-22 in a really good game last night.

Yes I've tittered to myself all through the season at that one... .The commentators try so hard to be professional and call him Vank... (being German)

"All through the season"? You actually follow the ski-jumping season? Always knew you were a wrong-un.

Other Senior Rugby / Re: What a waste of space Scunthorpe 2nd XV are?
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:21:01 AM »
2nd team rugby should really be mostly local fixtures.
Before B&B dropped through the leagues the 2s played Premier and needed 6 buses to take a young team to visit hull twice, sheffield twice, Driffield and Scunthorpe. Needless travel and high potential for let downs were a problem.
Split Yorkshires top ranked 16 teams East and West then have then top 2 teams from each play a champions league to find top dog at end of season. This need only be 4 matches as two fixtures have already been played. 3rd and 4th teams could do the same as could 5th 6th and 7th 8th..   Some good bus trips to end the season to play what should be very competitive fixtures .
Don't like splitting the county and want to get the clubs to better resource 2nd team rugby ...  Have 2s play same fixtures as 1s and combine scores to decide whose 1s team gets a BP.  Now that might shake some up a tad ....

You had a bus from Bradford to Sheffield!?

Paul has been retained in the 23 for the Scotland game - leaving him as one of 4 props. As modern day squads have 4 props he is almost guaranteed to make his debut next weekend. Let's be proud of another Yorkshireman making his mark. Good luck to him!

Other Senior Rugby / Re: Dylan Hartley - captain
« on: January 26, 2016, 12:11:33 PM »
Who would you have made captain Gnome? Other than Hartley I can't see anyone in the squad who stands out as a potential captain and is guaranteed their shirt.

The only players I can see who are guaranteed first choice are Marler, Hartley, Cole, Launchberry, Watson & Brown - of those Hartley would be my choice.

Mike Cusack is another former Doncaster junior who went through Leeds academy. Now a full Scotland international playing at Glasgow!

Tom Biggs another who hasn't been mentioned yet.

Played against Cusack -  where you in that age group Vole?

Yes mate - there were a few good players in that side! Mick Hills, Tom Davies, etc.
