So the rumours on the grapevine are Scarborough are going to struggle this year. No signings to strengthen the squad but retirements of squad members and the loss of Captain/forwards coach Matty Jones to a squad that was promoted by default. How badly will this hurt Scarborough? Time will tell.

As Scarborough operate according to the laws of the land I suspect that this is a stark warning to other clubs.

The overseas route is a very complex one  nowadays.

Yes it will be a tough old season for Scarborough in a new league. I'm sure whatever XV runs out each week will give it 100% .

We will proudly be one of the only completely amateur clubs in the league.

I wonder if Speccy is really Tommy Robinson with his open hated and mistrust of any overseas national....

i have not read anywhere that you can not have any overseas players but it does look very complicated if you are helping them with their travel

Too complicated to contemplate unless you want to sacrifice RFU support.

It's only complicated if you are trying to find ways to circumvent the RFU rules.

Scarborough has a vibrant commonwealth community which has developed over the years (partly due to the rugby club). Brothers, cousins and friends of those who have put roots down here arrive periodically. Some are rugby players.

Besides players from overseas know that the rules of recruitment have changed but many still want to come and play rugby and work for 2 years thanks to the tier 5 youth mobility visa scheme. When they Google scarborough and see silver royd and the coast is it any surprise that we have a reasonable high number wanting to come here.

Let's not start the season with people getting excited about overseas players. Most come from very wealthy developed countries and can afford their own flights and soon find very good jobs drawing on club contacts.

The days of handing out flights and houses is over at this level.

Players move from club to club and country to country for all sorts of reasons.

Isn’t Tom Hicks, your ‘new signing’ (finally injury free) living in a club house? ????or was Tom Harrison lying? Have you managed to keep your number 8 from the vultures at Ionians?

Anybody who rents a house or room in Scarborough will be paying rent at the appropriate commercial rate.

I have no reason to doubt Toms honestly at all....maybe his judge of character when talking to coaching staff at other clubs!

I would not doubt brb's comments in any way. Hoewver, they have got me wondering how rigid the RFU will be in checking up on these annual statements which clubs must make from this season onwards. Will they target a few clubs who appear to have a number of overseas players, or playerswho have played at higher levels, and carry out a forensic examination?
