As the first half of season comes to an end.

11 matches played 6 on grass 5 on 4G

Grass injuries 1 broken thumb

4G injuries 3 dislocated shoulders

1 turned ankle

1 broken ankle

2 broken wrists

And alot of skin burns.

Surely this is not just bad luck???

That won't make for a comfortable read if the injury forms have been submitted (as they should be) to the RFU.

If that was a work place. The (dreaded) HSE would be showing an interest.

Did  the injuries happen with contact to the ground ? . Apart from skin burns. statistics sometimes can be misleading.

The incident reporting form has tick boxes for grass and 3g.

Statistics can be misleading but the above list does have a clear indication.

The forms have been comoleted. . All secondary impact with the ground, ankle I blame modern non supporting boots.. Not one pitch specific.

Yes but the above list could just be down to bad luck. However if these type of injuries happen more often on 3G and the statistics back this up could teams refuse to play on these pitches

You also have to consider the speed of the game.
After watching my son play on them over the past 4 years there is a definite difference in the speed of the game, especially at the ruck.

Having only played on grass and  and mud snow in the olden days I've  not even seen a game played on these surfaces. I can see the advantages of them as you say sail by the speeding up of the game. Are they firm under foot like carpet with good underlay or more springy

Based on Premiership but adds some  background to the subject.

Cynic in me says they look kindly on the AGPs with the RFU committing to funding them.

Used to be fast once....... if you lived up to your name then you would have loved them.

They are quite soft when walking on them but have a hard undercore below them.
No different to playing in September or April.

I think the comment about boots is very applicable as I know that I keep getting asked for new boots for grass and AGP, or is he just having me on?

I probably would I didn't mind playing when it was bone dry or a little frosty easier to sidestep props and secondrowers trying to knock my head off . I was asking about surface regarding how hard is it when you land maybe these modern players need a bit more fat on them to soften the impact

Interesting reading .
Can see when all the PPI claims are sorted we could be getting cold calls asking if we have ever been injured on a 4G pitch

That would be interesting considering there is no 4G pitch.  8)
