With both Hull and Hull Ionians both topping their respective leagues the noises emanating around a coming together appear to have dried up, does that indicate that there has never really been any formal discussions and it was just Back Street Bungler at his mischevious best?

Hopefully Hull will be able to continue in this position and make the step up next season. I think promotion for them would be a positive advertisement for rugby union in the city which comes a poor second to the league format and could do with a boost.

I have no idea..
However the fundamental strengths and weaknesses of the respective clubs remain unchanged.

And you would know all about that.

I believe from looking at the past posts regarding this there was very much a ‘darling, you protest too much’ from the Ionian contingent on here. Dear Tradesman’s Acquaintance above being one of them.

I think the fact Ionians have a multi-millionaire vet turning out for their third team might suggest generous donors to the registered charity arm business of the club may have saved the day.

But when you have a club like I’s, that keeps their elder members and old boys segregated upstairs with the prawn sandwiches, and the players kept downstairs, you’re not going to get a merger happening easily - they don’t even like mixing with their own!

Billy 36,
Don't really know what to say in response to such a poorly informed posting but, with regard to the previous 'protests' you mention, when postings are full of inaccuracies, there is a need to correct some forum posters..

Your posting suggests you have never enjoyed a match day at Brantingham Park. Your loss. Enjoy your speculation.

Just passing by,
Amalgamation? Merger? A snowball in hell's chance. Ships that pass in the night.

Hull are now 9 points clear of second-placed Billingham, 10 clear of third-placed Blaydon and a whopping 18 points clear of fourth-placed Rossendale. Not much doubt that they'll win this league at a canter. I'd fancy Blaydon to get the play-off spot.

That will be a bit of money leaving the league if so...

If Hull Ionians drop off in the next league up then it could be very interesting both Hull clubs in the same league... There could be huge crowds of about 200 (the same as Scarborough 2nd team get!)

True about the money leaving, though there's still Blaydon, Rossendale and Harrogate to consider...

I was assuming Blaydon gets promoted like you suggested.

A welcome addition to The Premier League ! They certainly have the facilities, though I wouldn't be using the Café... suspect they'll need to beat the YMCA to avoid having a play-off.

I say old chap, the Cafe-bar (known as Hartley's) is fully licensed! It's for the more discerning rugby supporter...

Well ! That'd be me, natch. Might also stay over in Wray Head Hall, as I did with a bunch of golfers in June. Unless you start doing B&B of course, as most Holiday Inns do !

brb,
Previous league games between Hull and Hull Ionians averaged about 600-650 and were very beneficial to both clubs. These games would have been in the old North One and later National Two North.
