« on: May 28, 2019, 08:09:45 AM »
So it seems our guests for next season will be Stockport RUFC.
A new place to visit for a season and welcome some new friends ...

Anyone know anything about them?

Of course there is a still a chance it will all change but for now it's looking like it's them...

Used to be called Davenport, changing to Stockport in 1992. Ilkley used to play them occasionally in the pre-League era.

They were relegated from North Premier in 2017, having registered only two points, but finished 5th in NW1 the Season after. This year they finished 7th with an identical win/lose count of 13 each and 70 points - one was a 38-17 victory against Blackburn....

Pristine

But lost 52-19 @ Blackburn.

My contact in Cheshire says last season  no pattern some excellent results and some strange losses. Always difficult in big cities where players more likely to move around to know strengths and weaknesses from ne season to another.

They have a good reputation for providing excellent hospitality to visiting teams I’m told.

Great rugby ground, fantastic crowd. Played there a couple of years ago when they came down from Nat 2, had some bruisers! The stairs were a death trap, especially after a few pints!

Bit of blurb here:

Today’s 100 Club of the Day, in association with Bollington Insurance, is Stockport RUFC.Stockport Rugby Club was founded in 1923, under the name of Davenport Rugby Club. The club had had two previous homes in the area until moving to its current location at Headlands Road, Bramhall, Cheshire in 1964. The change of name from Davenport to Stockport took place in 1992.

Stockport is a vibrant, family orientated, volunteer run rugby club. The Club’s objective is to develop and maintain a strong sporting and community spirit within its locality from early childhood through to adulthood.  The club has 4 full size rugby pitches, two of which are floodlight to standard to allow night matches.

Stockport Rugby Club currently have 330 mini & junior players and 70+ senior players who benefit by developing and maintaining their physical and social skills.  We have over 75 volunteer coaches and officers, which enhances a strong volunteering spirit within our community.  We also seek to provide events for our community such as low cost community events (a major fireworks display this year) and the provision of free rugby festivals for local schools, including the provision of free coaching by our volunteers. In addition the clubhouse, pitches & facilities are all available for hire by all people and businesses in the area.

In 2017 the club has developed its rugby playing capacity to include:

3 senior teams, the 1st VX playing in division North One West next season
Friday Night Vets team under Floodlights to encourage ex players to return
Mini & Junior teams from under 6’s to Under 18’s
Stockport Scarlets, our ladies team
02 Touch rugby 2 nights a week for men & women
Stockport Special Squad, our award winning team for people of all ages with physical & mental disabilities

Stockport Rugby Club truly believes in rugby for all.

Stockport have an excellent youth programme and always put out good junior sides. For me this is always the sign of a good club irrespective of how good the 1st team is.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll bring you down to his level and beat you with experience!

Ah ! Kendal, is it ? Well it’s a great trip for sure and we started and ended the season playing them, with comfortable victories, happily.

Their new Clubhouse is a Meridien compared to Scarb’s Holiday Inn and it’s an all-round great set-up. It costs an arm and a leg to run apparently.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, it cost £8 to get in - I wonder if that’ll reduce in September....
