Level transfer

Am I right in thinking we only have 13 teams with Brods and Heath both going up?

I also only count 13 so l also think we will have a level transfer. They will not be happy in D&N1 particularly as 3 teams have been relegated  from D&N1 to allow St Benedicts to come over from Cumbria.

It isn’t ideal. Though I feel sorry for the Cumbrian clubs who will join the league. We’ll only have to venture there once a season. They’ll have to make the journey east 13 times. Novos, situated in the centre of Newcastle, are fortunate in that the journey will probably take only two hours as we can get onto the A69 easily. Some of the Durham clubs may take up to three hours for the journey.

In regards level transfer, it will be either Acklam or Middlesbrough. I can’t remember who’s turn it is this time...

Middlesbrough can cope with Y1, I’m not sure Acklam will be able to manage as well, as was shown last time. Though I do think Y1 isn’t as strong as it was then??

It was Middlesbrough last time.

Not sure it’s fair to Acklam think the last twice they came to Yorkshire 1 they struggled and ended up being relegated back to D&N 2. That can’t be good for the club or for rugby.

It was Guisborough last time and we also ended back down to DN2. Probably would have got back to DN1 this season but for the dreaded virus ending things too early.

Sorry forgot about Guisborough in season 2018/19, when Middlesbrough were also in Yorkshire 1, they arrived the season before 2017/18. So Middlesbrough did two seasons. Acklam were last on level transfer 2016/17 when they ended up back in DN2.

Looks like Stockton are in Durham. Will anybody volunteer or will RFU have to decide between Middlesborough or Acklam?

They've previously decided by mileage. With the two teams going up and coming up, i don't think it will mqke much difference in the calculations.
I know there was a bit of noise from some up in DN1 last time about the LT and that it should be restricted to the Yorkshire teams only.

Oh dear - it's that old chestnut again.
Yorkshire 1 is just a league name. It's nowt to do with traditional county boundaries or CB membership.

We know and accept that, just an observation from previous LTs

So RFU North website confirms St Benedicts from Whitehaven are in D&N1 next season and there has to be a level transfer to Y1. On mileage basis looks like Acklam unless Middlesbrough (or Stockton or W.Hartlepool) volunteer.

Boro - 978
Acklam - 985
Stockton - 1017

But didn’t Middlesbrough level transfer the season before last so that means they can’t be made to do so again next season - unless they volunteer? At the conclusion of the procedure described in 13.2.11(e) above, if a club subject of a Level Transfer in the previous season(s) is returned to a league consistent with its Constituent Body or Divisional affiliation other than on promotion or relegation, that club shall be entitled to remain in that League for two seasons provided it is not promoted or relegated at the end of the first season unless it volunteers for a Level Transfer.

I think the DOC added a clause to their procedures to allow a little bit of wiggle room in the decision making.

Fredsbar might be the man to cast a little more light on the matter.
