Approaching players in season
« on: October 02, 2021, 11:09:49 AM »
Have it on very good authority that a South Yorkshire based, level 5 team have approached a contracted, South Yorkshire-based, national league player in season.
Knowing that the team that attempted to make contact have recently had a drive on being transparent with contracts/finances and that there is an agreement between the two clubs committees to not approach within season, would be interesting to know people’s thoughts on offering 12 month retainers at level 5…

So the point of this post is what?
To further stir up any ill feeling?

Do we really need this type of gossip / stir mongering?

And that is someone from North Yorkshire 😉

As stated, sir - just intrigued what people think about retainers at level 5.
I know you’re north Yorks too, despite your ties to the south ha

I’m with you sail boy

And… anyone involved who thinks players aren’t talking to potential future ‘sponsors’ as and when  it’s to their own advantage is in cloud corbyn land . No honour or loyalty when there is brass on offer .

There isn't a single paid player in rugby who gives a stuff about anything but money. They will bleat on about all sorts of rubbish but their instincts are always to follow the money.

If you pay a player £50 a match,.don't be surprised when they leave for £60 a match.

Loving all rugby but especially at grassroots level.

BRB

Don’t have a problem with it. Once any sport starts offering rewards to players it is only to be expected that they will seek to maximise their rewards.

In truth not that bad in rugby, talk to anyone involved in non league football or the richer cricket leagues.

The best way round it is to employ a rugby development officer who is also a star player
