A SECOND STATEMENT FROM THE CLUB CHAIR BY NICK PATTERSON
1 DAY AGO
Following on from the RFU's judgement, the Club has decided to take swift action and Club Chair, Andy Watts, explains the strategy, below.
Considering this week’s sanctions, the senior club committee have decided to dissolve the rugby committee and create a new group, rugby management group that will specifically focus on coaching and player development for adult rugby and create a pathway between juniors (in particular Colts) into adult rugby. There will no longer be a Chair of Rugby, instead the new rugby management group will be led by Andy Smith supported by Phil Greaves (coaching and player recruitment & development); Carl Paterson (Head Coach); Benji Pickin (RFU administration, lead and liaison and committee member) and Andy Watts (Club chair, committee representative and Colts/Junior development lead). Other members, coaches and volunteers will assist this group on and off the field where appropriate to ensure the success of rugby and the club in the future. The rugby management group will be further supported by Stuart Dixon and Brian Noble who will provide valuable strategic advice and direction for the group.
In respect of U17s player approval the new structure will undertake a three-pronged sign off process, starting with Carl Paterson (Head Coach) > Benji Pickin (RFU admin) and finally signed off by Iain Taylor (Safeguarding officer). Both player registration and YRFU/RFU contact will remain under the responsibility of Benji Pickin who has over 15-years 1st XV team experience and currently holds the position of team manager for YRFU senior team and the Yorkshire rugby academy playing in the U18’s Premiership. We are confident Benji’s appointment will strengthen communication between the club and our constituent bodies such as the RFU and YRFU whilst fully complying to the RFU regulations.
The rugby management group has also appointed two team managers who will manage player match cards for each game.
Despite the difficulties the club has experienced in the last few months, may we take this opportunity to thank Chris Hemsley for his commitment and dedication as Rugby Chair, in particular over the last two years during COVID which created the greatest challenges for all of us.
I hope the above clearly sets out the new structure and reassures our members that we are treating this matter with the utmost immediacy so we can continue to develop rugby ahead of 2022/2023 season.
Thanks to you all for your patience and understanding.
Andy Watts
