My boy had a school fixture away at Yarm school today which finished earlier than expected so I decided to make a day of it and headed to the MBH to see Scarborough on their travels.
I didn't have the old Satnav on so relied upon old fashioned intuition to get me there, as the lovely houses of Headingly began to shrink and youths began throwing things at my car I knew I was close (especially as I could smell curry)
I arrived in good time and I had been assured I would be pleasured with one of the MBH finest curry's. The head waiter met me near the clubhouse entrance. He had a funny name for a curry house maître d' , I think he called himself Carl? Anyhow I was welcomed warmly and enjoy a lovely lunch with two MBC officials and a chap called Colin from Scarborough, strangely, despite the warm whiff of Balti it wasn't a curry lunch, however it was very pleasant.
Onto the match. The score suggests that Scarborough were 2nd best and that would be correct. However the score doesn't accurately reflect the game (although it was a fair final score) - the forward exchanges and phase plays were very even and Scarborough paradoxically defended very well. However when you throw a side together there is always a slight lack of cohesion. The MBH madras XV took their chances very well, played with pace and scored some well worked tries. It was actually a very enjoyable game and Scarborough will be pleased with the experience some players gained. The match was well refereed.
Very many thanks for the excellent hospitality, good company and pleasant match day experience with the MBH 2nd XV too tired after playing beforehand to be too boisterous.
Just as I left the Bollywood music started and Carl the maître d' switched the disco ball on and the poppadom's started flying......
