Anyone got anything to say about games for the coming weekend? Ripon were due to play Hullensians at Ripon in Yorkshire competition but Hull have cried off as can't raise a team. Yorkshire in their infinite wisdom have ordained the next available Saturday to try again - 28th October on RWC final day. Marvellous!

Weekend off, friendlies, anyone actually playing in the cup? anyone care?

Do we know the system they’ve used to determine who is in what cup?

I think it's down to what the blazers in each club say yes to when the invitations come round from Yorkshire. It remains a mystery to me sorry, but some committee member somewhere will be able to de-mystify. If "Fredsbar" is watching, he may be able to advise?

For the Shield, it is the Y1 teams (that registered) + the current holders (Baildon) + the winners of the Silver Trophy (Hemsworth?). It was the norm for the winners of the lower cups to move up the following season. Any remaining places were/are usually filled by the teams with the best cup record or league position. Best cup record can mean frequency of entry and not giving walkovers.

We were runners up, lost to West Park Leeds in the final. Not a clue why we are in the cup we are but it’s a game of rugby at least!

We’ve got Wensleydale at home

I’m not sure where locked out obtains his information from. As Hullensians have withdrawn against Ripon the home team has a WO.

Seems strange that clubs are withdrawing, when the clamour appears to be for 14 team leagues!

The competitions have been  advertised since June, and only 5 league matches played.

You know why clubs are withdrawing. You have an unenviable task running the Competitions but clubs have long since made it clear that cup comps have had their day. Players see the 'free weekends' on the fixture list so arrange to do other things. Whilst 'Finals Day' at Castle Park appeared to go well last season, YRFU are kidding themselves if they think that means a healthy appetite for Cups.
You were at the meetings when one of our own Council Members was railroading through the RFU aim for 12 team leagues, contrary to the overwhelming wish of those attending to remain at 14 team leagues.
And as for the first iteration of the cup draw this season on the 24th Aug. Who came up with that idea? It doesn't matter how you dress up the revised draw, the damage was done.
Paying a £100 bond to enter seems, at first flush, a good idea. But when teams are going to have to arrange transport to travel when they expect a bit of a stuffing, it's cheaper to give a W/O and have a week off. So i don't think it has had the desired effect some would have hoped for.

Did I read somewhere that teams couldn’t use league games as double headers either?

I believe the rishes result from the weekend has gone down as a double header result, I also see ossett have pulled out. Which I think was a realistically good idea on their behalf.

Old Rishworthian league match against Leo’s was on 30/09/23 away, and they drew   Leo’s away in the Shield. Both teams agreed that the match on 30/09/23 should be a double header.

I may be wrong but I believe that out of 8 fixtures in the Shield there is just Hemsworth v Wensleydale left standing

Saw it on Bradford Salem’s Facebook page. Don’t know about Bees v Pock, was an educated guess based on the lack of posts about the game from either team and Bees’ struggles so far.
