A good win from York today in the PJ Cup away at Blackburn, A solid performance from York in very poor conditions wind and rain at times soaked everyone to the bone. Some very solid individual performances from some younger players in the team making debut or taking chances when availability issues have forced some changes. a much changed team from last weeks League end fixture but the strength has shown with players understanding the game York play due to large training numbers every week during the season. 22-43 in the poor conditions was an excellent outcome. looking forward to playing Driffield at Kellythorpe in 2 weeks time. #YorkshireRugbyRocks

I noticed you were short of options for the front row..

You don't fancy posting their match day fees then?

You’re the one that knows  the in and outs of any payment in the league, so you tell me

2 players on your list live less then a 20 minute drive from Driffield and work in the area, but instead drive nearly an hour to Harrogate. Do you not think these players have been approached to play at Kelleythorpe?
People talk, Yorkshire rugby isn’t a big place.
The issue isn’t teams paying money, its being unsustainable that’s the issue, along with people’s denial that it happens!

Players travel to play rugby, it happens all over. We have lads that live in Harrogate or very close play for Ionians, dmp, Roth, hull, Leeds, otley etc

To be fair travelling from your end to Harrogate is much shorter than travelling from NZ to Driffield for unpaid rugby…..

Well I don’t think it’s a secret that the front row are on £350 a game, I’d be asking for a refund if I were you.

Dobson went from Ilkley for north of £200 a game. Similar story with other centres..

Need I continue?

I will echo DufferLids comments, the problem is denying it, when everyone knows the truth.

£350 a game, what absolute drivel

Who would ever pay a player in regional one £350 a game? You just pluck numbers out of the air and hope to get a nibble.

Nice pedantics love it made me chuckle, especially the thought of the opposistion if they ever saw pauli pauli running out with his number 10 shirt on.

For those that played in the first round could i just confirm it is upto a 22 man squad you can take and if you take more than 18 you need to have 5 FR named including ability to replace both prop and hocker.

I think the point is pay whatever you want without risking the long term prospects of the club…
But get your pitch in order…
I suspect the money you are paying players is stopping the required investment in the pitch….

I would think the pitch is of the highest priority this off season. Gate receipts, pre match lunches, bar take etc are all a good chunk of ££ into club funds.

The Chairman is the former junior chair - If you've ever met a junior chair, the last thing they want is all the funds being directed to senior rugby and much more at facilities and the club as a whole. If there were no works on the pitch in the off season and it was left as it is, you could then say that the funds were going on players instead.

The amount of rain the season hasn't been seen for such a long time and hopefully we won't see it again anytime soon.

YEs, as below:
A squad of up to 22 players (15 starting players and 7
substitutes/replacements) can be named for each
match. Squad composition must be in accordance with
the Laws of the Game (Law 3).

And Law 3 states:
squad size 19-22 then a minimum of 5 front row players. And must be able to replace at first time of asking Both a Hooker and a Prop.

Rumor is Blackburn will withdraw from the Driff away game as they will struggle to progress.
So Driff will play one game at home probably against York.
York will have to two games away from home and win both to progress???
It’s Mickey Mouse and in my view a waste of time and resources to promote a pizza company in decline.
This needs to be binned and the York cup etc reinstated, with mandatory entry against sanctions if a team fails to turn up.

Not heard rumours of Blackburn pulling out of the cup. In a 3 team pool teams are able to progress by Losing 1 and winning 1. So would be fairly defeatist, but stranger things have happened.

Yorks lack of a home game is a result of Harrogates inability to fulfil fixtures they have committed to.

It would be embarrassing for a club to pay players in regional 1 and then have to crowd fund to repair pitches built on a clay farmers field! Priorities would be all wrong if a club did something like that.

Harrogate are comedy gold reading that about crowd funding. Maybe the players will donate their match fees in solidarity with sorting the pitch out.

You've gained promotion but at what cost? You've one side and bog for pitch.

Not many on here will know this,  but our near neighbours Kirkby Lonsdale have put out a crowdfunding request to up grade their floodlights. Think the target is £33,000. If they had not paid a bunch of six foreign mercenaries for several years and then to head a player revolt off decided to pay ALL players for a couple of seasons, they would have had plenty of money to do so. They eventually came to their senses and stopped paying all players three years ago and have narrowly missed being relegated into the bottom league in Cumbria. We have always had a good relationship and we at Ribb take no pleasure from their recent struggles which included a near world record defeat of 190 - 0 against a very strong Blackburn team. Just wanted to highlight the pitfalls of falling into the trap of paying players rather than developing the clubs facilities. I sincerely wish them well as they seek to rebuild with a team of lively young backs. Good luck to a good local community club.
