Watched their colts on Sunday, the future is bright if they can keep hold of them.

Looks like Bridgenorth have given Rossendale a walkover.Whats the issue with the PJ cup.At Heath we have enjoyed it, it’s been good to play different teams. If you do not want to play then do not  enter but if you pull out you should lose points in the league the following season.
Think the clubs and players  have let the competition and sponsors down tbh.

Agreed! If teams commit to the competition after the pools have been officially announced then should be some penalty for it

Blame the RFU for this mess. They were told it wasn't wanted. They even ignored the evidence presented to them showing cups have had their day. But no, the were hell bent on bringing it in, hence the reduction in league sizes - and look at the issues that's caused.

Even if the RFU have gone against the evidence provided to create the PJ cup, if there is no requirement for a club to enter why do so many enter with the knowledge they won't travel for away fixtures. It seems to me that teams are purely entering on the hope they get a run of home fixtures (i.e walkovers) leading to a run out at Twickers. I agree with Morleyboi if you're going to enter and then pull out last minute there should be repercussions.

Only the clubs which finish at the top end of their leagues get a chance to play at Twickenham
Others enter knowing they will be in Plate or Shield where finals are played at other grounds such as Darlington. Credit to clubs like Scarborough who were down at the bottom of the league when they entered and still played their away game. Having said that my club Dinnington had an away walk over last week and hopefully Hoylake will turn up this week.
If you enter play your fixture!

An alternative scenario, regarding a place I know well in the Scottish Borders.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of the Walkerburn Rugby Club, After much consideration and reflection, the committee has made the difficult decision to cease operations. We believe it is our duty to provide clarity regarding the reasons behind this pivotal moment in our club's history.

Over the years, we have witnessed a gradual decline in player participation. Despite our best efforts, assembling a team for matches has become increasingly challenging.

The lack of sufficient player numbers has impacted our ability to compete effectively.

Our dedicated committee members have tirelessly worked to keep the club afloat.

However, the burden of managing critical tasks has fallen upon a small group.the workload has become overwhelming. They have valiantly attempted to perform the duties of a full team, but it is no longer sustainable.

The cancellation of our 100th 7s tournament and our absence from the 24/25 season which would have been our 140th season-weighs heavily on our hearts. These milestones were meant to celebrate our rich history and the passion we share for rugby.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us throughout the years. From the SRU to fellow clubs such as Gala YM and Lismore. Additionally, we appreciate the individuals who volunteered their time, ensuring that Walkerburn Rugby Club remained a vibrant part of our community.

While the chapter may be closing, the memories forged on the pitch, the friendships kindled, and the spirit of rugby will forever resonate within us. We bid farewell with gratitude and a sense of pride for the legacy we leave behind.

Sincerely, The Walkerburn Rugby Club Committee

What a shame, the Scottish borders have long been a major provider of the national team from clubs like Gala, Hawick, Melrose Selkirk, Jedburgh, and Kelso to name but a few. If clubs in that historical rugby hotbed are folding, at whatever level god help the rest of us.
Keep the faith lads and keep this great game of ours going despite the obstacles put in our way by the people who run the game. Who have really no idea of the issues we all face at grassroots level.
Why dont we get together and collectively lobby our county reps to have a true say on the RFU council for what really matters to us. The clubs they purport to represent. ????

The new Council Member is just down the road from you at Wharfedale. Ask her to call in for a discussion on the various issues.

Couldnt agree more Stella. Unfortunately they are nodding dogs who vote as instructed by the powers that be, have their snouts in the trough and do not really have any connect with us, the clubs they are supposed to represent. God only knows what would happen if anybody with "A Pair" actually stood up and said "Enough is Enough" this is what the majority of clubs in our county actually want so please listen.
Dont think anyone would listen. As to a Wharfedale rep at Twickers. Will have a little bet with you. Bet there is a proposal again in the next two years for 2nd teams from "senior" clubs to be admitted into the league structure potentially further diminishing small clubs ability to turn sides out and a potential other nail on the coffin lid of the game we all feel strongly about. I would be delighted to be proven wrong and no such move is made. Watch this space!!!!!

It's so sad to hear of the closure of a community club. I've just googled it and flicked through a few pictures of the ground.... I couldn't help imagining happier days there when a win or loss was followed by drinks and singing in the bar.

It's a shame all the thousands of former players didn't recognise what was happening and rallied themselves around to help save the club.

This should be a reminder to all of us, regardless of our friendly or less than friendly rivalries, ultimately all clubs need each other. We need fixtures and general interest in the game for us all to survive.

I would genuinely hope that if a Yorkshire club was facing such difficulties we would all do what we reasonably could to help them.

Loving all rugby but especially at grassroots level.

if it was cash they need, I agree with the sentiment.
But it’s players and they take about 20 years to produce!
It did tickle me though the thought of coach loads of retired rugby players traveling to the border regions to impregnate the local women of child bearing age, in the name of rugby!
Third Reich comes to mind. 😂
