The Aspatria treasurer must be delighted. Must be a 250 mile round trip to Guisborough on A roads

There is probably a record amount of travelling for Scarborough next season. Not a lot we can do about it when we're based on the East Coast but nevertheless it's still a lot of miles to rack up.

I see this section is also supposed to be for Regional 2 North clubs as well - not sure the interweb has got up there yet😀
However looking at that league there’s a lot more Cumbrian clubs in it than I expected and that is a lot of travelling . Was that what the RFU set out to achieve when it messed the leagues  up?

Aspatria
Carlisle
Consett
Durham City
Guisborough
Keswick
Kirkby Lonsdale
Middlesbrough
Morpeth
Northern
Upper Eden
West Hartlepool

That's almost the opposite of what the Cumbrians were looking to achieve. We played most of them a couple of seasons ago and they were not to happy about travelling to Merseyside and the Manchester areas.
No easy answers, and now 2 fixtures less than there were then.
Less chance of getting shot!

And ditto for the Guisborough Travelling Army - 5 trips over the Pennines.
I thought the main reason for the League Reorganisation was to lead to more LOCAL fixtures.
Musn't grumble though - it is what it is.

Bradford Salem running a crowdfunder so they can afford to pay their ex-NRL players utility bills

https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bradford-salem?utm_term=2Y8dZ5jQM&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3-3uMu6rw4UCr6ZaKvvrCRdYGD_RLc3ZppQGd2V_Y3ddfYWMLndcuwenQ_aem_hppx0jplHlJudF_yuodr9A

BS has made a steady start to the fund raising excercise.
One generous supporter has pledged £500.

He also made the comment "Best ever season on the pitch, possibly worst ever financial position - weird!"

I wonder if somebody from Worcester, Wasps or even West Hartlepool or Wakefield, will be able to explain a possible connection between the two events.

They made a £20k loss for the year ending 31st May. However £16k of that was nominal in respect of depreciation - therefore they only made £4k trading loss, not exactly an extinction level event.

Their fixed assets increased considerably as did their long term lending. I can only assume that they have invested in the ground which cant be faulted.

Depends on the size and nature of the “unexpected bill” I suppose. If it wasn’t in the accounts it could skewer things.
To answer Rugby01 all those clubs are were playing at a fully professional level when they had their problems not down at level 6 or 7.
I think I’m correct in saying West Hartlepool are the only one still in business.  On a fairly recent visit with Colts they now have a tremendous set up and were adamant the days of paying players are long gone. Hopefully our Yorkshire clubs will recover in similar fashion.

The accounts BRB is referring to are May 2023!!

I know BS we’re looking at improvements to the clubhouse and obviously this has happened as the accounts show.
Their long term loans have increased by some 80,000 and short term loans by 9792 having been zero the year before.

Without knowledge of who the lenders are or indeed if these have increased in the year to May 2024 it is difficult to speculate why they are suddenly in the financial mess that they find themselves.
Other interesting bits wages and coaching costs increased by £10000. With sponsorship and donations increasing by £13500.

It just goes to show , I am sure that BS are not alone in this struggle, that you cannot run a rugby club on bar income alone, their other income outweighs bar by some £15000.

I make no comment on paying players as it is not apparent from these accounts except from what would appear to be paying a player coach in the year to May 2023.

Good luck to Neil and his fellow committee men with the future financial stability of the club I hope it works out.
