Many people will have been very sad to hear about the death of Richard Girking of Bridlington RUFC following a tough battle with prostate cancer.

He was known as Thatch to his pals and has a very long association with BRUFC in many roles. I believe his son is the current coach.

I didnt know Richard well at all(we may have had the odd Scarborough/Brid touchline run in 🤦) but he clearly was extremely committed to both Brid, rugby and his family.

So on behalf of everyone at Scarborough RUFC, rest in peace Richard ....and our thoughts and prayers are with your family and all the wider Bridlington community.

I fondly remember having in depth "Rugby" chats with Richard many moons ago, when North Ribb were in the same league as Brid. I was really looking forward to making his acquaintance again this coming season. I was unaware he was ill. What a shame and as BRB says was a man totally committed to his club Brid. All our sincere condolences to all Richards family form us all at North Ribblesdale. Yet another good man gone too early.
RIP Richard.
