Completely disagree, the merit table/leagues are not fulfilling players needs. Loads of cry offs and mismatched games. Our club has lost 12 players to a local Y4 club because they want league rugby. Sick of no competition in merit tables. Maybe if your 2nd team players had that chance they'd stay.
We expect 2xv players to step up when needed but then are surprised they don't perform when week in week out they are not getting games or putting 60 points on social teams.

Maybe if clubs could offer league they would keep players. That however would require club officials looking beyond their glorious 1xv and there league position.
It works in most parts of country. Yorkshire needs to realise it's not the rugby 'kingdom of heaven'. If you want proof check out NLD cup competitions. 1vx, 2xv, Ladies. Finals days with 4/5 games at 1 venue and good participation.

If we think what we've got is good enough, start looking for a building developer who will buy your property for houses

For those who think this works. Have a look at the results of the two Southern divisions.

Sorry Bob. I dont know which club you are from. But if what you say is true and you have lost 12 players to a Y4 club there must be an underlying problem you are either not aware of or not disclosing on here, which is fair enough. I am sure that you are from a senior club and that the players you refer to would have been average 2s or 3rd teamers. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I am from a Y1 club, we did that odd thing of asking the players. They are keen to test themselves, and develop themselves with aim eventual wanting to get in the 1xv.  They see that to get competitive games they need league rugby. More teams would allow split divisions like in Y4 N/S, why not Y3 and Y4 N/S.

If they can't get that level they will vote with their feet. When a club is down to 1xv only you're heading up sh*t creek with no paddle.
Maintaining 2 teams minimum is vital.

And those clubs who entered their 2s in the league (you have to apply) you'll  get a home game very week 1st or 2nds, for those that moan about 12 team leagues it's more INCOME

Counties 3.
60-80% walkover rate. Hmm.

I could see many clubs folding if this came into play. Maybe not straight away but in time.

I'm really struggling to see how this could benefit clubs in this vast county of Yorkshire?

Loving all rugby but especially at grassroots level.

Y3 cry off rate fully supports my argument. Club in question lost 5 players to play for recently created Y4 club to play league rugby. No 2nd team to support 1vx. Boom!

As to vast county of Yorkshire, take a look at Notts, Lincs, Derby. Where they have geography issues just as Yorkshire, but regionalised  counties leagues, reduced travel, effective cup competitions and 2s and 3s in the leagues.

Feedback from a Yorkshire club that transferred to NLD is that the competition is very good, they intend to apply for their 2vx to play in leagues next season.

NOT Invented here so it can't be any good syndrome. Remember the British Motorcycle and Car industry ridiculing tatty Japanese motors!!!!!

Now, is it 5 or as you mentioned previously, 12? and are we to assume you lost these players to the recently formed Maltby?
The walkover rates i stated are from this season, albeit further south. Down there they really do have a geographical issue to overcome, eg 50-60 miles between clubs so it sort of makes sense to include scond and third teams. However, that results in a myriad of leagues with 6-8 teams in them. You have 10 team leagues with only two 1st teams in them and that's at counties 3 level. And yes, last week 4 out of 5 games were walkovers.
